Back in the time of slavery, the Republican party was the party of the northeastern seaboard/liberals/urban population. The Democrats were the party of the farmers, rural folk and the south. Through a couple major switches in the voting blocs of the parties, they have effectively swapped who their main base is. The way to see the proof of this is easy, the Confederacy. If you see someone waving a out the Confederate flag and calling it their heritage, they're almost always going to be a right winger. I did a standup routine for my theatre club's variety show in high school. I had never been so scared in my entire life for a performance. just standing up there making fun of myself for about 20 minutes. it was fun, but having all that pressure cause you're on stage alone is insane. I applaud anyone who's ever had the balls to do standup. ever!
