Here's Why I Made The Smartest Table Tennis Bat with AI

2 роки томуSince the pandemic started, my housemates and I bought a Table Tennis table and started playing a lot of Table Tennis. I made this project so that I could monitor and test how well I perform my shots based on what the device is telling me, so that I could improve my game.
I use the Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense and TensorFlow Micro with the Tiny Motion Trainer "Experiment" developed by Google Creative Labs for this project.

Nice work! Really cool project, good explanation and video editing :) I was thinking of doing something similar but I wondered: from your experience, do you think IMU would be able to register the ball hitting the racket during the swing? Or would the force be too small or that filtering out the impact would be hard? Cheers!

Good job Sam, especially during this pandemic. You should use a pro player :) as a reference in the TensorFlow motion trainer, then I think this will be used for the pro team training programs in the future.

Yes ideally I need to use a real athlete to collect the sample data. I actually tried to imitate the professional's movements when capturing the data, hence why sometimes my movements in the real game does not generate enough motion to trigger the bat.

Wonderful, keep it up. Kindly consider handshake bats, e.g. here in Egypt we never hold the bat in Chinese way, the 3d part needs to be re-engineered to achieve this. Once again excellent work

Thanks! Yes, I definitely agree, I’m also a fan of Omar Assar and Dina Meshref! In modern table tennis more than 95% of people use the shakehand grip. If there’s enough interest for a shakehand grip design, I will definitely make an update.

For tennis racket you can hide it inside the grip ... and no more discrimination like penhold/shakehand grip in pingpong 😉

Halo Pak J! That’s a good idea, there are many other applications as well (eg. baseball bat, golf club, badminton racket), I just happen to play ping pong and also one of the very few people in the world that still use penhold grip 😅. Like many others have suggested, I will try to make the shakehand version. I will try if possible not to embed the board inside the handle, because the idea is to have the device modular so players can put on and take off the device from their existing equipment that they’re already familiar with.
