Home made 2m Rokkaku first flight - Fresh from the sewing machine this is the very first test of my new 2m Rokkaku kite. Wind was a little stronger than I would have liked at 12kn - Bft 4.
5:4:3 size ratio. 7.5mm Skyshark P4X Camo carbon tube spars (similar to P400) with solid carbon internal ferrules. All up weight 380g with spars and bridle.

@@AndrewNewton I put a couple up on Facebook but I'm (deliberately) hard to find there! I may do another short video that includes the best photos/video clips and I'm using some of the mountain/hill material in another video that I hope to upload to my channel soon.. I have a busy day job so have to fit all this in around it with short days at present here in Scotland, so I can't produce videos very quickly right now. I'll try to be sure to keep you informed. In my childhood we made such flying devices. They were called snakes. The size was small and also had a bridle. Also, there was a tail. Now I am engaged in modeling and one of the directions is "wingless aircraft". The principle of flight is like that of a snake, but without a leash and on the radio control.

What Is Islam? Islam is not just another religion. It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham. Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God. It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone. It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine. The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as: { “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4) Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus. Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him

@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 7 років тому
Welcome. The spars are Skyshark P4X Camo carbon arrows from Kites and Fun things. Specs are on their website
@droceretik
@droceretik 5 років тому
To keep cost down FG tube or rod can be used. For this 2 metre Rok I would use FL414 for the vertical spar, FL 370 for the horizontal spar. These are about 10 mm and 8 mm external diameters respectively. Sure these are heavier than carbon spars but I don't think it makes a big difference to the flight performance. Slightly suboptimal bridle settings can negate the carbon advantage. I have also found that carbon spreaders will snap if flown in winds higher than intended such as in unexpected gusty conditions. On the other hand filament wound fibreglass tube is very forgiving and will bend rather than break. IMO, the use of carbon spars is overkill on Rokkakus, especially since they are around 3 times more expensive than FG. I have built a range of Roks including a 16 kite 1.2 metre train, 1.5. 1.7, 1.9, 2.5 versions and I'm currently building a 3.8 x 3 metre Samurai Rok. For this I will use FL 602 fibreglass tube for vertical and horizontal spars. It will have a 7 point bridle. For all the other Roks, I use a 4 point bridle. I sometimes I have two versions of the same kite by using an alternative spar set that will increase the upper and lower wind range. However, spar pockets and fittings must be adaptable to two spar sizes. I use Dyneema for flying line and bow lines. It ranges from 90 kg for small kites up to 550 lb for the bigger kites. Of course, the bigger kites can't be flown from hand and must be anchored. This puts them at festival and display only kites. 1.2, 1.7 and 1.9 are ok flown from a reel in miderate winds but they can be difficult to manage in anything over 30 kph (15 knots). You can see more info at Kitebuilders, a forum in the USA. It has a few Aussies on it, all Australian Kiteflyers Society members. www.kitebuilder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12676&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20 www.kitebuilder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12677 Andrew, your Roks are neat, exceptionally well constructed and fly really nice. I agree that it's not worth while to sell them as the time and effort to make these would price them way out of the cheap Chinese market. Those NRL Roks are taking me an average of 10 hours each with graphics. I get over $50/hour in my job. No way could I charge $500 for one of these NRL kites. $80 maybe and that is just not worth it. I'll stick with making them for my own pleasure and satisfaction.

Kite ripstop nylon from Emma Kites. Mine was $6.00 / yard back then. Important to know that kite ripstop or spinnaker cloth is lighter and has less stretch compared to tent or banner ripstop.
