Recorded on October 17, 2022, in Fiesole, Italy.
Does God exist? Something-a being, a power-that’s supernatural? That is, an entity that we’re unable to perceive with our five senses but that’s still real? Ever since the Enlightenment, the knowing, urbane, sophisticated answer has been, “Of course not.” Now a historian, a scientist, and a journalist talk it over and reveal new threads in the debate around science and theism.

I’ve listened to hundreds of hours of podcasts and interviews. This is honestly one of the best conversations I’ve ever heard. I could have listened to this for five hours straight.

Perhaps the greatest failure of religious scholars and leaders is allowing and often encouraging the misbelief that we have to choose between religion and science, between faith and reason. Faith can and should be essentially reconcilable with science, as religious scientists will attest. Ignorance and arrogance conspire to polarize human beings. Only intellectual integrity and humility will lead us back together.

It appeared that Stephen wasn’t given equal air time. He wasn’t asked a question but had to interject thoughts on what the others were asked.

Proof smart people can debate subjects whilst disagreeing. Why do so many on both sides of the political spectrum lack this ability? This is how public policy should be developed.

I am 20 minutes in. While I am not sure where the conversation will end up, I can’t stop but wondering are churches empty because they “left God” or have they realized that the leaders of the churches “religion” became confused and thought they were God at minimally , the flock put their faith in man instead of God. All of my friends that have stopped practicing , Jews and christian, Catholics etc were not pursuing their creator . When organized churches failed them (think priests, think the old covenant” imho those never understood that God was not in the church, or in the ark or in the clouds and they certainly did not need to go through an interpreter I am one of those that became disillusioned with organized religion and fortunately, I have found peace, understanding, and salvation, by pursuing a personal relationship with the son of God

Wow. Guys! Seriously! Wow! Thank you! This has given me much to mull over. What a perfect set of authors to have on together. Views that differed enough to give a wide angle view on the subjects but in a way that was complimentary to the others so that having 4 people talking didn't give one a headache or make it impossible to keep up. As much as I love spirited debate, this style of discussion leaves one with a sense of broadening knowledge and empathy that flows together and allows deeper thought without chaos. Which I'm sure we can all agree is a welcome change compared to the way it seems everything else has been lately. Bravo gentlemen! Thank you again!

It is so refreshing to hear intelligent minds discuss important matters. Not that it matters, but it doesnt matter if any minds have been changed, what matters is that civilized discussion is permitted legally and socially in the first place, which, sadly, has to even be applauded in this day and age of screaming "racism", "sexism", "bigotry", "bake my cake", "insurrection", and "reparations now". Thank you, gentlemen.

Excellent conversation, I’m impressed by them all. This type of open discussion is much more interesting than a debate format, where we try to keep the score to see who wins. I grew up at the tail-end of the William F. Buckley Jr. era of interviewing, and was saddened for many years that 'intelligent conversational interviewing' had passed away with him. In the past few years, though, I've seen and enjoyed his heir - and it is Peter Robinson! Thank you, Mr. Robinson!

I read Meyer’s book Signature in the Cell. It is a bit of a slog to say the least, but my background is biology and medicine which made it a bit easier. It’s very much worth the effort. His arguments are scientifically sound and very well presented. When you start looking at the math surrounding the time frame and the probabilities of diversity of life on earth occurring by chance alone in geologic time scales, it’s hard to deny the evidence for a guiding hand in my opinion. But one needs to read the whole book and delve into the nitty gritty to see the ideas clearly.
@thedynamicsolo4232

Thank you for backing the position. When we have more people being intellectually honest, society benefits. Meyer's book "The return of the God Hypothesis" is one I am nearly finished with. It really does finally paint the materialists into a corner with only a small path to escape from. Surely more information is what we will find in the scientific world, but the question is "Will that information further prove an omnipotent creator or solidify naturalism?". I hedge confidently with the former.

I have not seen any evidence that could make me feel or see that there is a God. Everything I see is matter and/or energy, my feelings and emotions come from within me, my conscience is the product of all my experiences that I have had throughout my lfe. And love is my moral compass.

In pointing out that atheists and agnostics can and do believe in some wierd, mad things, Mr. Holland said, "Most people believe in human rights but human rights don't exist objectively, they're as fantastical as believing in Angels". Amazing thought! He then goes on to say, "if I can believe in human rights why can't I believe in Angels"?

I've found this fascinating, but one point I struggle with hugely is faith that the rich will help the poor. No. Current times (UK and wider) show abundantly that the rich are looking after themselves, that they're not happy with their level of wealth, and they still want even more.

I was out for a meal last week and learned that a waitress had fallen off of her bicycle on her way to work. So, I asked if I could pray for her, she said yes and I did. She was skeptical, but accepting. She said "it does feel a little better!" About 15 minutes later she was buzzing about the place at a good speed. Clearly, she was healed completely. All I did was ask the Holy Spirit to bless her with healing in Jesus name and he did. Remember, it is the Holy Spirit here and now who leads us in revealing the reality of God and his love to us all. Peace
