If you understand music theory the two songs aren't very similar beyond the first few notes It was just inspiration a lot of artists come up with new songs by learning old ones

Look up a bands top 10-20 biggest influences and you will find pieces (or entire sections or even entire songs if the writer is unscrupulous or oblivious) of their music all over their stuff. Music is language. You dont invent a new language for every song. Its all the same alphabet and sentences. Context is everything

The life and lore of this band is fully an interest of mine in and of itself. The shit these guys have seen+experienced is insane. Each of them could write several books and have several biopics. To be honest, back then, as a teen, I listened to a lot of music not so much because I liked it, but because I felt I needed to be part of something to be cool or something like that. It was more about identity than about the actual music. I wasn't even some fashion victim follower who listened to the popular stuff to be part of the in-crowd. I was a contrarian loner, but I listened to music that seemed to fit that image I had of myself. The Californication album was one of the few exceptions. It was one of the very few I genuinely listened to for the music and on which I liked pretty much every song.
