Simon Sinek presents a simple but powerful model for how leaders inspire action, starting with a golden circle and the question "Why?" His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers -- and as a counterpoint Tivo, which (until a recent court victory that tripled its stock price) appeared to be struggling.
The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). No they don't. They buy for many reasons including vanity or shame or group socialization or they just need a good tool for a particular goal.

When Simon Sinek made the statement, "Great leaders think, act, and communicate the same way and it is completely backwards from everyone else," he did a fantastic job at both setting up the stage for his platform as well as genuinely grabbing my attention because from that point forward I was invested in his explanation to that statement. The Golden Circle model he created in regards to What, How, and Why is an excellent visual tool that simplified his explanation of how these inspired leaders think from the inside out versus how everyone else thinks from the outside in. I particularly liked how he linked his model to the layers in the human brain and how the outside part of the brain deals with language and the ability to understand figures and facts but the real accomplishment is speaking to the inside part of the brain that drives behavior and where decision-making originates. That is the part of the brain that the inspired leaders talk to and get you to believe in what they believe and create a sense of trust and loyalty as opposed to throwing facts and numbers at you.

Simon is an amazing speaker. I enjoyed how he correlated the major components of the brain with the inside-out approach of the "golden circle." The traditional approach that works from the outside does not drive behavior. To inspire people to adopt a new idea, you must talk about what you believe and why. When people believe what you believe, they will support your cause.

I was surprised to rediscover this TED Talk from over a decade ago, which perfectly aligns with my startup's vision under the guidance of our two founders: building a company with a clear 'why,' attract like-minded individuals who share the same beliefs, driven by a greater cause, purpose, and unwavering belief.

1. If you talk about what you believe, you will attract those who believe what you believe. 2. They buy why you do it. What you do simply proves what you believe. 3. People will do the things that prove what they believe. 4. People who believed what he believed took his cause, and they made it their own, and they told people. 5. Leaders are those who inspire us. 6. Not until all the laws that are made by men are consistent with the laws made by the higher authority will we live in a just world. Thank you for the truth.

My all-time favorite video. I loved the book, too. I re-watch this video a couple times a year. The concepts are simple, but being human, it is so easy to forget how important the "why" is. Thank you Simon!

This video has had a profound impact on me since the time I first saw it in 2012. It has been a part of change in my approach towards the way I present things , the way I train people , the way I look at things. I have been revisiting this video over and over again and every time it sinks in more deeply. Inspiring to the core. It all begins with Why.. Thank you Simon for bringing out this to us. Would love to really connect with you in person

Man, its so true. A lot of times, we really don't care about how well people talking about their plans, their strategy or etc. We listen to their dreams and their purpose, because that's what move people together and inspire people. Facts are just bull***. Dreams are everything
