Real Crusades History

1287, the Mongolian Golden Horde launches a major campaign against the Kingdom of Poland. This would be the third time a Mongol army invaded the country; the Poles knew well that they were facing a formidable opponent. Commanded by two capable and experienced military leaders - Nogai Khan and Talabuga Khan, the Golden Horde’s army divided and entered Poland via two attack points. For many of the Poles, they had little option but to hole up within the country’s fortresses. However, one nobleman, Duke Leszek the Black, would muster an army and confront the Golden Horde head on. Meanwhile, he would appeal to his neighbor, the King of Hungary for help. Hungary would respond, and soon, a coalition Polish-Hungarian force would stand against the Mongols, bolstered by the courageous Hungarian commander George of Sóvár.

Stop repeating this nonsense over and over again. Mongolians had neither their own state, nor their own army until 20th century. What is now the capital of Mongolia Ulan Bator, until 20th century was a small town on the trade route from China to Russia. Neither Russia, nor China ever had any problems with Mongols.
@viaceslavmikhailovich9825
@viaceslavmikhailovich9825 Рік тому
Many centuries the town which is called now Ulan Bator was guarded by a small garrison of Russian Cossacks. Sometimes it was captured by Chinese hunhuzes but there are no records whatsoever that Russians had ever any problems with Mongols or Buryats. You should understand that Tatars are Europeans.

Poland has just recently, in the terms of recorded history, regained their own sovereignty. When Gernmany and the Soviets divided Poland up and subsequent Soviet occupation they had only had their country back for a short period. Poland had been in the mix of powerful countries for centuries but ended up being partitioned between Russia, Prussia and Austria long ago. When a country is taken over like that they tend to have the history stolen, like their lands and freedom. Not unlike my country when European settlers came over and wiped out the Anerican natives living here with disease not native to the Americas and through the wars which ended in the conquest of the continent. Just like when my people, the Lakota, vanquished those living in the Black Hills, our history was lost just as we had stolen their lands, enslaved their women and children and killed their men, we took their history. Just as some of our history remains, there is much history remaining from Poland. Not as much as the history that has been lost.

Few months ago, I made a discovery of unknown, small castle/fortification on top of one of the hills near Łagów. Characteristics of that fortification was typical to XII-XIII century. But that is not all - I manage to find a mongol-type arrowhead, inside remains of walls of that castle, wich also can be dated to around XIII century. Clearly, that fortification was besieged or at least Mongols tried to took it by force. Ofcourse, I submitted my discoveries to local archeologist responsible for that area. He confirmed my assumptions about age of that castle remains and arrowhead, and now I am proud to be official doscoverer of previously unknown castle remains :)

Lord Robert, an excellent video! Shadiversity once said that something that actually stopped the Mongol advance was castles. It's seemingly true, as those who survived the onslaught would learn. Regarding the learning, was there a significant increase in discipline among these regions or was it still as it was in the rest of Europe? Knights going without orders and infantry ready to break? How do Kings and Lords actually bring more people to these depopulated places?
@kamilszadkowski8864
@kamilszadkowski8864 Рік тому
Knights going without orders and infantry ready to break weren't the standard anywhere in Europe. As for castles, Shad is actually wrong. Castles didn't stop the Mongols/Tatars. Not on its own. Fortified cities and castles were helpful but Tatars quickly learned to simply avoid sieges and unfavorable battles and just focus on quick raids, deep into enemy territory which were absolutely devastating. The only way to reliably stop Tatars was to deploy your own cavalry force capable of keeping up with the fast-moving horde and forcing it to battle. In the Kingdom of Poland, it eventually led to the creation of a standing army known as Obrona Potoczna (Mobile Defense).
