This is a repost of the popular Valentino Rossi mini-documentary, Because of this, there are a few spots where my commentary doesn't match the video, and while that sucks I did the best job I could. The original vid got 2.6 million views so share like and sub and let's see if we can get this one up there.

Lots of riders have their style of winning in a race. Doohan let you behing 5 laps and than he just disappear. Casey, Lorenzo and Marquez have the same style, to dissappear from start and kill you mentally. But Rossi had the hardest style, it's called 'cat and mouse'. Let you pass him, then he passes you, and in the last lap or lap early he just passes you and win. That is the hardest thing you can play with your opponents. That's why he is master class

I suppose I became a Rossi fan when he came to Yamaha because I was big fan of King Kenny and also rode RD350's. He ended up being one of the greatest assets Yamaha ever had. I am italian and the difference between Rossi and other sport millionaire is that Rossi still talk with anyone in his native village or wherever he goes in the world, He doesn't look down on anyone just because he's famous. He was and has remained the same village boy who helps others. Sometimes you can also see him in London where he has a house, and loves the English, and unless he's in a hurry with his family you can talk to him comfortably. Rossi has maintained the roots of a simple boy, difficult to see in other famous ones. And this makes the difference of why people love him as well as the skill of his motorcycle riding.

When you stack his career up against other incredible champions like Doohan, Stoner, Lorenzo and Marquez - Rossi's longevity and durability is honestly insane. The fact his last MotoGP win came 17 years after his first at the age of 38 is honestly mind blowing in a sport where a couple of injuries can dramatically change the course of people's careers.

I suddenly re-entered motorcycling after about 20 years. Then I didn't have time to ride because I was watching TV. That was over 30 years ago. This is one of the best documentaries I have seen on Rossi and I have seen many! I loved the fast paced coverage of his career... there were no fillers in the doco, and hence no boring bits at all. I'm so honoured to have followed Rossi's career and watched him race live at Phillip Island. What a legend, and look at what he's still doing for the sport. He's doing more than any of the Spanish riders + Dorna combined! What happened to him in 2015 was disgraceful and MM admitted he provoked the incident because he preferred his Spanish compatriot to win the championship. If not for that incident, the broken leg and moving to Ducati, he could have had a couple more Championships and cemented his place statistically as the best ever.

Rossi. I usually loose interest on any motorsport when it's alwayscthecsame winner and everybody behind kinda stagnates. But man.. Watching Rossi to race was something else. Grazie mille, doctore! Besides the fact that his greatness was the same (or even higher) outside the track. He "created" many riders that even challenged him and raced alongside. His happiness and glare in his eyes (even whike in.. Ahem.. Ducati) were something I have never seen in a MotoGP rider. He will always be the Great One (unless Oliveira starts to make magic tricks.. Which I do wish he to start doing).

I think a lot of people who just watch motogp without knowing don’t understand how unique he was. He was taller than everyone, heavier, and that allowed him to run deeeeeeep into the corners and do things most people don’t understand. Also, his work ethic and era of riding were so crazy. Unlike now, those bikes were better than the riders could ever take them too. Just Schumacher the F1 cars of that era, talent could win races not pole position. Back to GP, there was only one rider who was “better than” Rossi. And we all know that was Stoner. Had Stoner been able to do the grip and grin bs better that would of been what senna and Schumacher would have evolved into. Stoner was so fast and capable of doing things on a bike that were ludicrous. Rossi even said that when Stoner wasn’t hurt and on point, no one could beat. Stoner and Rossi are my two favorite riders of all time. Senna is and will forever be my favorite F1 driver. Go watch the documentary Senna, you’ll cry. I did and I’m man enough to say it. Senna was a gift to this world not just a F1 driver. Schumacher is the goat but like all Austrian-German drivers they are cold and calculating, exacting. Senna was loose and beautiful.

This Man made me fell inlove in motorsport. I remember I used to write 46 everywhere and now if you ask me to tell you a random number I would say 46. I remember when I was 5 or 6 years old watching MotoGP on the TV and it was so magical, because of Rossi. Now when I'm grown up and more mature I understand why he makes everything so special

Sad that Americans never knew what greatness was and how VR46 & Schumacher changed the sport and had the whole world watching them!! That is greatness and no one can ever match it, even now with the internet and media it is still unmatched. They were heroes and still are to real sports fans..

Amazing work Also worthy of note: He won a race at 38 and finished his last race in to his 40's in 10th and ahead of team mate. Some of his modern rivals had faster days like Stoner, Marquez but they have not been able to maintain the longevity of 2 decades at the top. Clearly the Ducati was the only shadow but respect where its due for trying. Also rumour of special tyres in his earlier years.

I love your analogy of Jordan and Lebron. Lebron might look good on paper, but he never commanded the floor like Jordan. Jordan was more clutch and a bigger threat than Lebron will ever be. As a kid, and a Bulls hater, you knew when Jordan had the ball, it was bad news for the opposing team. Vale is such a character. Embassador of MotoGP, even when he's out racing a BMW in Fanatec. Great video Goon. Keep up the awesome content. I really hope you mix it up and throw in some automotive history too. I just like the way you story tell. Little fact, I don't even ride, but I love bikes too. I love automotive and motorcycle history. It's so interesting how companies and riders battle it out with pride. The characters bumping heads. You don't see that now besides the soap opera of F1, which is kind of cringe if you ask me.

The right time and the idea of speaking and creating stories are very much needed. Making your story hurt and demeaning other people in an elegant way is a skill that no one else has. He is able to create enemies and is able to destroy his enemies, making victims, without making people realize it.

Thanks for this. I got into GP motorcycle racing in the era of Biaggi and watched Rossi's rise with wide eyes and a slack jaw from his first race on a 500. Your recap of his career - and your clear understanding of his charisma, and your clear description of the way we were all on the edges of our seats watching and wondering what the _fuck_ he was going to do next - really touched on all my favourite memories of that time in the sport. Except the way he used to run Biaggi down and force errors out of him in his first 500cc races. Those performances were the foreshadowing for how creatively Rossi would use his immense talent tell a dramatic, exciting story in every race. What a showman. What a rider. What a psychologist. The Doctor, indeed.

Very good coverage of the racing developments in GP racing, from 2-strokes to 4-strokes and - in #46 Rossi's case - from World Championship winning with Honda to even more championships winning with Yamaha. Thanks for posting, well worth watching. 👍🏻 I've put up a link to it on Twitter.

2015 Malaysian GP is what people remember and think why Rossi lost the championship - and I don't think that's truly justified. Earlier that year, there was a mixed weather race where Rossi decided to stay on rains while others switched to slicks. Cooked his tires and got smoked by others, even the spectators were like "what are you doing man". That incident felt more impactful than the MM clash/penalty
