I've been writing and lecturing about flying with guns in your checked luggage for quite some time now. At least ten years, it would seem. In the past decade, airline policies and the practices at many airports has changed and evolved... and I'm very happy to have been keeping an absolute treasure trove of research and photos and notes throughout my flying life.
This lecture is one of the best collections of information I've probably ever put together and I'm very proud to have delivered it to the Liberal Gun Club in one of their distance learning sessions. We recorded it and I'm sharing it here with you all now in the hopes of making your future travel days smoother and hassle-free. Enjoy!

When my gun case didn’t arrive in Virginia from Orlando once I had the amazing pleasure of watching the face of the disinterested and rude Delta agent just fall when I finally aggressively asked “Do you have any idea the massive legal trouble you could be in for losing a legally registered machine gun?” and demanding her full name. Now I didn’t actually say they had lost a machine gun, I wasn’t even flying with anything NFA, I just asked the question. But wow the phone calls got much more productive.

Funny thing about that 49 CFR 1544.219... Had a friend who was a US Marshall, and he was flying out of DCA to go pick up a fugitive. As a law enforcement officer, he'd all the paperwork in hand, talked to all the right folk, and was on his way to do his job. But... TSA had a tiny problem. See, he was carrying a "restricted item", and could not be allowed to pass security unless he surrendered said item. When asked what said item was, he was told, "Your handcuffs". He then stated, "You see the hand cannon I've got on my hip? And *that's* ok? But my cuffs, which I need for my job, are not?!?" "No, sir. Those are restricted items". 45 minutes of "Let me talk to your supervisor" later, he was cleared to carry the tools of his trade onto the airplane and go pick up the fugitive.

55:54 While MTM does not intend these cases to be used for this purpose, they are also excellent for storing batteries. The .223/.556 case fits AAAs and the 500 S&W fits AAs. And because the wells are closed on the bottom, if one of the batteries leaks, it doesn't ruin all the other batteries around it.

Getting my license at the DMV in Utah for the first time, I did the practical test. scored 100% on all categories except one, teacher praised me for some other not tested stuff. That category I failed (dead 0%)? Parallel parking. Why? Because it was a one car parallel park and I just pulled up behind it and parked alongside the curb. The instructor didn't say anything about it, just waved me on to the next bit. If she'd just told me to do the park from alongside the car, I could've done it. I still got my license, but I hold it against her to this day. Absolutely annoys me.

Thanks for being such a great resource on this topic. You mentioned the airlines bag tracking technology, but I started adding Apple AirTags to my pelican cases (and any checked luggage for that matter). Given how prevalent iPhones are, it does an amazing job of helping me track my stuff. I recently moved to another state, and I packed up the items for the movers exactly the way I would if I flew. I was able to watch the progression of the moving truck from point A to B along the way.
@DeviantOllam
@DeviantOllam Рік тому
Indeed, this is what a lot of people do now and it's a great idea. It's so effective that Lufthansa who has had lots of PR problems is pretending that they're not allowed in checked bags just because they want to stop customers from pointing out when they lose luggage.

Years ago my girlfriend was flying to meet me at my parents house. I’d Asked her to bring along my desert Eagle, and had left it with her in a shitty clamshell case with a lock &key. When she was departing, the gate agent wanted her to prove it was unloaded, yet she was unable to lock the slide back to show her😂. Eventually they both gave up and it flew. Upon returning, the case failed the finger test, and I had to call my mom (who had just dropped me off at the airport) to buy extra locks.

Lambert Airport in St. Louis is terrible. I'll never bring a firearm through that airport again. The airline checked my bags and sent them down the conveyor belt. A few minutes later, TSA came up to me and asked me for the key to my lockbox. They refused to allow me to come with them or to be present while they inspected my gun. They made it clear that neither my gun nor I would be flying (for my anniversary vacation with my wife) if I did not provide the key. About ten minutes later they brought me my key and a little piece of paper to claim the gun upon arrival. I spent the whole flight wondering if my gun was still in my luggage.

The TSA agent mistook some screw driver bits for loose ammo and told me to open my case. It was early, first flight out and didn't make them inspect it in my presence. There's a video on UKposts with police pov showing someone who went through the TSA checkpoint with a handgun they forgot was in their carry on bag. The police were called. I don't like the fact that if I go somewhere I have to pack things and then unpack things when I get back. So the idea I have is the next time I go somewhere I'm just going to buy like cheap Amazon Hanes t-shirts and other clothing like that and either have that shipped to the hotel that I'd be staying at or take and pack it and then when I'm done with the trip just leave it at the hotel and maybe have a note saying hey donate this to homeless shelter or something. I figure doing that with clothing and getting like travel toiletries and a few other odds and ends realistically everything I would bring back from the trip would be stuff that could fit in my pockets or maybe at most like a fanny pack or something. But then again it would be more Leisure Travel not you like I wouldn't be bringing laptops or super expensive equipment or anything.

If you're firearm is large enough, simply point it toward the ground and fire. The resulting kickback should enable you to become airborne.

I live in Australia and have no access to guns, nor any interest in obtaining a license to access them, but I'll gladly watch Deviant give a lecture on any subject, anywhere, any time. And let me also say how comforting it is to know that the left in America are actively arming themselves, and learning about the proper use of guns. The fash are massing, they're preparing for war, and it won't be long before they get it. Any right-thinking person in America with the means, ability, and discipline to obtain and operate a firearm should absolutely be doing so.

"It's all about the things I do to enhance my peace of mind" - at the expense of workers who are already stressed to the hilt so you can lug a gun around, even when there's really no functional need or expectation of need admitted to in this video. I'm sorry, but I don't agree with this whole philosophy of "an armed society is a safer one" because studies literally show the opposite. It's another thing if I am going into a situation that I perceive to be dangerous. In this case you present, it's more about chest thumping about "rights". I wish people expended this sort of energy to get everyone healthcare vs this alpha-male obsession with needing to be constantly armed everywhere they go at all times "because they can". We currently have a society where there are literally more guns produced than there are citizens, we should be the safest nation ever if that were true. I'm not against guns, but if you really want to change the laws, then work on that. Not workers who get sold out over Xbox's: www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-48225646 I love your physical security focused videos (even though I'm more cyber focused) and especially your video featuring your trans friend who got detained over some bullshit - I 1000% agree with your assessment of that video and is one of the reasons I do think carrying is a good thing. I'm just not down with the "moar guns equals moar better" approach to a better society overall. If everyone has to have a gun to be "safe", then there's a big problem that needs addressing. Could be the dozen or so gangs running out of the LASD (Los Angeles) and many other police departments around the country, our broken justice system or a multitude of other things we should all be focused on. Sidenote: I worked for a luggage scanning company that worked with the TSA and believe me, no one at the place mistook any agent of the TSA for a MENSA candidate. It was a common joke that those people are fairly low skill and don't really care about their position are in it for the "authority". Shocker I know. It's not their fault, that's what the TSA hires for those positions right. Look at police, someone has sued the police for not hiring them because they had too high an IQ and the court ruled that yes, the police CAN discriminate because "people with too high an IQ don't stick around for the position" - let that sink in.
