Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ukposts.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

I took heating and cooling back in the day. Never did anything with it though. When I was taught, you had to evacuate all the air out of the system before introducing the refrigerant. This was accomplished with a vacuum pump and a set of manifold gauges. Blows my mind how that doesn't have to be done here.

@@keishabaskin2174 - You don't need an "certified HVAC person" to do DIY. You just need a vacuum pump. All Mini Splits come with a precharge of freon stored in the condenser. All that's necessary to do is to pump the system down and then open the valve. Tons of videos here on YT, including my own to show you how... ukposts.info/have/v-deo/nXKCpJmPnm5nxHk.html I have two accounts on YT, the above video is my primary channel. These "Mr. Cool" systems are more than twice the cost of a non "DIY" mini split. Go to Harbor Freight and buy a vacuum pump for around $150 and save literally hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on the install not to mention diversity in shopping for brands of mini splits without precharged lines as this brand, Mr. Cool, markets. Great video and nice install job. I installed 2 of these types of units in my house and do awesome for heating and cooling. I noticed in your sub panel that you have your main ground on the left side on a single lug by itself. It should have a ring of green tape on it signifying its a ground wire. Most importantly it should be with the ground bar on the right side of the box. Also by most codes you should have a bare ground wire coming out of box from ground bar going outside to a ground rod between 6 and 10 feet into the ground. In any case I highly recommend you move the main ground over to the ground buss bar. Normally the grounds and whites share one or both sides of the main side buses. The one down in the right I believe is for the main earth grounding. Figured I would share that with you. Stay comfortable :-)
@HTMR

Thanks. My ground wire runs back to the main panel. My grounds and neutrals are bonded at the main panel, and unbonded at the sub. I got the wire for free so why not? I can add some green tape to the ground...I thought I did that somewhere because I bought some tape years ago for that project.

I had to drill through a thick cement wall too. I drilled a pilot hole with a long bit angled slightly down for the drain. I then drilled from the inside then the outside with a carbide hole saw. Still took me about 20-30 minutes for each side. I didn't have a hammer drill, just a 1/2 drill. I wish I had painted the lineset covers when I installed them. Nice video, I’m actually getting ready to put one of these in my garage and I noticed how you went all the way around the building with the line set. Was that just to use up that extra line so it’s all wouldn’t be all coiled up behind the compressor? That’s been my concern is what to do with all the extra line. Wasn’t sure if running it horizontally was ok to do. Thanks

I did the 2-3 ton universal air handler (not the mini split) an bent my line set by hand and broke it first try, I am very mechanically inclined and I would suggest just having a pro do a flared line set install and don’t worry about it. If your bending the line set by hand with the insulation covering the lines then you won’t be able to see if it kinks. Also the line sets have a steel spring wrapping the lines and where exposed this “spring” started rusting badly in the first few months. I don’t think the rust will affect the copper but it’s ugly as can be and bugs me. That all said the system runs GREAT and is very strong. I highly recommend mr cool

Thanks for the information. Great job. You may want to close off the line cover opening outside by the condenser so you don't get mice or wasps in it.

Maybe use spray foam? Or better, use stainless steel wool rodent barrier.

Excellent video. And btw, you won't need the garage heater that much anymore since Mr Cool is also a Mr Hot. It is a very efficient heat pump that can warm up the garage in no time. I'm glad to see you've put the condenser in the back instead of putting it right outside the head unit wall and then coil up the line set.

Thanks! Unfortunately 18k heat is not enough. I need 30-40K. I currently have a 60k natural gas heater since it was free. NG is the way to go in my area since cost is low.
@CrownRider

@@HTMR the climate in the Netherlands is very mild so we don't need that much energy to heat houses and garages. With 1 m3 NG you can create about 10 kWh of thermal energy and the average consumer price is 0.81 EUR which is about 0.95 USD. The consumer price of 1 kWh is 0.21 EUR which is about 0.25 USD. Using a heat pump for most of the time is actually cheaper here. Only when it gets really cold (below -5 C or 23 F) we need to turn on the NG central heating. What area are you in?

@@CrownRider I'm in chicago. It gets COLD for weeks. I'm talking 0°F or less. NG costs $0.30 per therm (100k BTU for 1hr)
