HOW to play notes with the Behringer FCB1010

Great video! I've done the same thing recently, giving me the ability to play some basic synth passages whilst playing guitar or a second keyboard part. Alongside triggering arpeggiator passages, I've found a way to "play" chords using just one foot pedal (as far as I'm aware you can only play one not at a time using this pedalboard, although I'm sure that could be worked around by using it to trigger sampled chords). By applying a detuning LFO to 7 semitones, you are able to replicate a perfect 5th. Other intervals are available, although the 5th tends to work across the scale. Obviously this isn't the most comprehensive hack but it can be much more interesting than a single note, particularly if you intend to use the pedalboard to play pad sounds. From my experience, this tends to work better with the LFO rate turned fairly high. I'd love some clever person to figure out if it's possible to play legato passages with this thing.

Hey. Loving your videos on the FCB1010. Thank you for posting these. Are you able to confirm if the midi pedal buttons will let you hold a note for the amount of time you hold down the midi pedal button, or does it just trigger the note? I would like to set it up to be like the foot pedals of an organ, holding down pedals for the amount of time I want a note to play but I can’t work out if the buttons have this ability, or if it’s a trigger signal only. Thanks!

Hi - yep it holds the note for as long as you hold the footswitch down. Effectively when you press the footswitch it sends a ‘Note On’ MIDI message and when you release the footswitch it sends a ‘Note Off’ message - so it works the same as pressing a key on a keyboard 🙂

@@splootyvision Hello! I was going ask this exact question! Thankfully it does exactly what I need it to do. My next question for you, would be, in order to use like a hammond/moog bass foot pedal, would the fcb1010 have to be hooked up to logic/ableton, or can it be used with a stand alone synth unit etc. I’m assuming as long as the board has been programmed with note value, it’ll work with a stand alone synth unit or logic?? Thanks!

@@isaacdenton2944 It works fine both ways, in the video I'm actually using it to trigger the hardware synth behind me which is a Behringer Deepmind, no PC/DAW required if you don't want to, just good old fashioned MIDI cables 🙂

@@splootyvision perfect! So just so I’m completely clear before I spunk a couple hundred pounds on a new rig, I can program the fcb1010 to do note on note off and map notes etc, then midi out to a synth unit and the jack outputs will then play my notes with the synth tones??? Thanks in advance

Excellent video! I have a question and I would like to know if you can help me... Would it be possible to use the FCB1010 to perform the same function as the Roland midi controller that Def Leppard bassist Rick Savage uses? Would a midi keyboard be needed to play the chords or is it saved on the FCB1010? Thank you and congratulations for the content, very instructive and well produced.

Hi there, nothing saved on the FCB1010 itself, it’s just sending midi note on/off data to whatever you’ve got it hooked to. This could be a midi keyboard triggering a VST, or triggering a hardware synth directly or triggered a VST on a laptop directly 🙂 It’s a little different to the PK-5A he uses as that is laid out more like a keyboard for your feet allowing to play notes etc in a more comprehensive manner as far as can tell, but does similar stuff in terms of sending out midi messages to trigger other equipment.

@@splootyvision So if, for example, I create tracks in Reaper, with chords or sounds, can I activate them through the FCB1010, in the same way that I can drop backing track sections?

@@adrienromera Hi, never used Reaper but believe you can. Here’s an excerpt from a thread on forums.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=279502 ‘I've been using the "Regions: Go to Region XX after current region finishes playing (smooth seek)" actions, mapped to MIDI program changes sent by my Behringer FCB-1010, to smoothly transition between parts of songs (i.e. verse -> bridge -> chorus -> verse), with each region being a section of the song. No extensions or scripts needed, though ReaLearn was a game changer for my live setup. Each region will just loop until I move to the next, and then thanks to Smooth Seek, it will wait until the end of the bar before transitioning.’ You might also need to enable "Smooth seeking (seeks at end of measure" within the Options menu for this workflow; not sure if that's strictly necessary because of the actions, but I have it enabled anyway.

Hi there! Amazing video!! I was wondering if you could help me with something? I was looking for something like this for awhile, however it didn't solve my issue. I have a Korg Minilogue and I got a FCB1010 to use with the Minilogue. I'm wondering if this also works with the Minilogue?! I'm in an instrumental post rock band and it will be great to be able to play some notes with my feet while I'm playing guitar. Thanks in advance. Cheers

Hi, no reason why it shouldn’t work, the FCB1010 is just sending note on/off values that should trigger notes on the Minilogue. I believe that the Minilogue also has a ‘chord’ function I.e. you can play one note and trigger a chord. By using this with the FCB1010 you should be able to trigger whole chords as well if you wanted 🙂
