When you've got two pieces of knitting on live stitches that need to be grafted together, turn to the kitchener stitch! On stockinette stitch, it creates a nice invisible join. Just remember the mantra: Front Needle: Knit Off, Purl On. Back Needle: Purl Off, Knit On.

So true about focusing on this stitch and not doing anything else. For some reason this stitch makes me dizzy but your tip about being aware of which is the front and back needles was very helpful to keep me on track. Thanks for your great video!

Thank you a LOT for this tutorial. My native language is Russian and I knit like for years, and I’ve never really understood how to make it. Sometimes it was goof but mostly I couldn’t make it as it had to be. So today as I had to finish a lot of my projects where I needed this method I have decided to watch it in English, and I’m really happy I found you first! Your explanation is way too better than everything I saw before! Thank you so much 😊

hi! i have a question about one of the pieces of fabric. you said that you didn't cast off on either of the two pieces but you only mentioned what to do with the tail with one of them. do you just weave in the end for the other piece?
@aletrisvazquez2526
@aletrisvazquez2526 5 років тому
For the other piece you would have used a provisional cast on, and would weave in the tail after moving the work onto needles and removing the salvage yarn.

I am very slow on the uptake, so I slowed the playback speed down to 0.5. It makes it much easier to follow for a slowcoach like me, and it made it much more do-able without making a mistake. But I have to admit, it sounds so funny... like she's had two reefers AND a bottle of beer! So I followed closely (success!) but it was a giggle...! I mean, How did she do that so well while tripping...?! LOL!!

Good tutorial, but the wrap of 8 times the width was about three times more yarn than needed. That’s a lot of excess yarn to pull through each time.

Can the cast on stitches at the beginning of a scarf beadded to a knitting needle to be made to look like live stitches
@sheepandstitch
@sheepandstitch 8 років тому
+M Holloway Yes! I think you're referring to the provisional cast on. This cast on method makes the stitches "live" so that you can later on "undo" them and seam them with another piece of knitting.

I'm sorry, you confused me with your yarn estimation method. When you say you " ... wrapped the yarn around the width of your fabric 8 times". To ME, wrapping around means 'Enclosing' the fabric and I'd count that as 1. You appeared to count by matching the width of the fabric on the front of the needle as 1 & the back as 1. So you 'Wrapped' the yarn with only 4 loops, Did I fully misunderstand? Or are there just 4 loops on the width of the knitting each loop being the width times 2.?
@alexandraabraham6698
@alexandraabraham6698 4 роки тому
Yes, either 4 complete wraps (front one, back one, front 2 back 2, front three, back three, front four, back four, OR: count each side as one length. Across the front, 1. across the back, 2. Across the front, 3, across the back, 4 across the front 5, across the back, 6, across the front, 7, across the back, 8. so 4 complete loops. To be honest, I wrapped it round front and back once, then measured that length 4 times, plus a bit extra for the needle thread.
@essemsween818
@essemsween818 4 роки тому
@@alexandraabraham6698 Thank you for that, I always overestimate how much fabric or yarn I need too because I'm scared of running out before the job is done. Mind you I do the same with food and paint too, I can't tell you how many rolls of wallpaper are floating around my house, the just in case rolls that were never even opened. Lol.
@alexandraabraham6698
@alexandraabraham6698 4 роки тому
@@essemsween818 If they're decorative and pretty, try framing different pieces in identical frames and hanging 2 or 3 in a row, on a plain wall... Or use them as wrapping paper for gifts. They're probably more recyclable than gift-wrapping, which is often not recyclable due to foil or glitter... cover wooden crates to make attractive toy holders, or line shelves in a wardrobe... Or just keep them rolled up on the stairs to foil burglars or small children.
