I am an electrical engineer and at the university they see this as something unimportant and even trivial that they do not bother to teach it. I learned to weld by myself some time later, and now with you I am finished learning tricks that I did not know. Awesome channel, master and thanks for sharing. Greetings from Mexico ✌🏼🇲🇽

Mr Solder, sir, you're skills are insane. I've never seen anyone solder individual pins on a quad pack like that. I'll give it a shot but I tend to shake a good deal so I may be doomed to a life of drag soldering. Thank you for your time and sharing such phenomenal skill and tactics.

Hi , thank you for your support . I'm glad you enjoyed the video , hopefully I can help a few people and maybe give them some different soldering options . I just find it easier to do pin by pin than drag soldering which I've never liked . Practice and we can all get better , that's what I tell myself anyway . My future videos will be much sharper clarity as I've just worked out how to edit my own videos instead of getting them done on an external device . I've just reposted 3 of my videos which I have updated to the sharper clarity . Thanks again and good luck with any soldering projects you do 🤞👍

Hi . Thank you for your comment , much appreciated. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The main thing I've learnt and tell people is to get a various selection of soldering tips and a decent iron , i.e Weller or Metcal. The trouble with cheap irons is you generally get one large ended tip that you can't do fine stuff with . With the right tools and practice you can definitely get to a better level that's why I do my video's to hopefully help people along the way . My next video will be showing helpful hints like using different widths of solder ( again very important ) , different tips and what you can do with them as well as lots of other hints and tips. I will keep posting videos to aid people while they find them useful . Thank you again for your time and good luck with your projects 👍

This is of course very good, even though I'd add something. A quick mention on ESD protection soldering irons would be worth noting, as would preheating the PCB (even just a heat gun) so as to prevent blow out of the masking or copper. That, however is more likely to affect somebody in a particularly cold climate. Even though room temperature is assumed, life doesn't always work that way. Good video. Nice shiny feet on the soldering.

I can totally relate. Been avoiding an SMD board for months, before gathering up the courage out of necessity. The 100 pin quad IC wasn't as bad as expected. Thought I was home free, until attempting the 0603's, which behaved like jumping beans. Haven't even attempted the 0402's. Made a mess of the project. So now I've started redesigning (1st ever) the commercial PCB with 1206 SMDs in KiCad by following their tutorials. That was already part of the plan. But, now, it's sooner instead of later, after the prototype with the commercial board. Mr SolderFix has amazingly steady hands and excellent soldering technique, which makes it look so easy and simple. I've learned to purchase at least twice as many components as I need, just to allow for failures. Just put in my order and found significant price breaks in quantities of 100, which also minimizes repeated shipping costs. Good luck on your project. 😎

Hi . Thank you for your comment, much appreciated. I do use a microscope sometimes when I'm doing fine pitch work , but all the filming is done using a mobile phone with a macro lens attachment placed over the camera of the phone . You can buy special kits that include the bracket that sits over your phone camera and then the lens just screws into the bracket . This allows me to sit it next to the work bring carried out and so I can get different angles when filming . Thank you again for your support and good luck with whatever you do 👍

These SMD videos have been excellent! I have a project I'm planning with some 0805 and LQFP 32/48, so these have been a huge help! Question: Are you using a magnifying lamp/microscope? Hi . Thank you , much appreciated . I'm glad you found the videos useful , I have more SMD ones planned so hopefully you will find them useful as well. Hi , thank you for your comment. I only ever use 2 different cleaning fluids . These are Ultrasolve and if I can't get this I use one called Flux off . They are available from the normal places , Farnell , RS Components, Rapid Online , Mouser , DIGIKEY etc. They can be funny about sending it out to private individuals due to its nature , flammable etc. Worth asking them . I normally buy 1 litre bottles of Ultrasolve , decant some into a small lid for instance then dip a Gtek dry wipe ( from Grove sales ) , based in the UK and wipe away as in my videos . Very nice videos, indeed! I watched your entire soldering series and you make it look so damn easy, until one needs to pick up the iron and do it himself. I know the tools you use make the difference and I just wanted to konw what is your take on using the TS100 iron with the TS-B2 tip for general purpose SMD (1205, 0805 and, maybe but not necessary, 0604). The specs of the tip basically are conical, 10mm long and a radius of 0.5mm at the end. If anyone else would like to shareir the experience of using this iron for DIY projects, NOT full-time job on soldering, please put your words here. Also, I wanted to know if you are able to do all that SMD soldering (0605, 0402) with the naked eye or you use any sort of magnification. If yes, what kind of tools for magnification do you use? Thank you again for sharing your soldering techniques. They are really instructive and very high quality.
@mrsolderfix3996
@mrsolderfix3996 Рік тому
Hi , thank you for your support , much appreciated. The tools I do use when I need magnification are ( model number 8087046 LA8093LEDRS/EUK ) , a simple aid that sits on your desk with a built in LED light ring . If I need a fully blown up view of a PCB I have a stereo long reach microscope , purchased from GT Vision ( England ) , their own branded one , a great scope which allows me to do microscopic work + the long arm means I can get very large boards under it. I haven't heard of the iron you mentioned so I can't really comment on that at all , but maybe other people if reading this can leave a comment about it . I do use a microscope when doing below 0603 size components , even though I have perfect close vision , using a microscope just gives you an amazing view of your board . Hope that helps , thank you again for your comment and good luck with all your soldering projects 👍

What temperature do you use for your soldering iron? I find it very difficult to keep my tip clean so long with lead free.
@mrsolderfix3996
@mrsolderfix3996 3 роки тому
Hi . All my soldering Is done roughly around 350 degrees centigrade , using a variety of different size tips . I know what you mean about the tip sometimes being difficult to keep clean . I sometimes scrape very carefully over the end of the tip with a fine scalpel then dip in tip cleaner which re-tins the end . Or I just re-tin the end with leaded solder then clean off and then coat In lead free so it's not contaminated . Between these methods I always get there in the end . Thanks for your time , much appreciated 👍

Hi , I purchase most of my tools , fluxes and cleaning fluid from RS Components , Farnell or Rapid Online . All these are good to order in Europe . I'm based in England so all good . I use SMFL200D flux from places mentioned above. Cleaning wipes I get from Grove Sales ( England ) about £5 for a pack of 100 ) . Cleaning fluid I use is called Ultrasolve ( best there is ) again from places above. I've posted separate videos on all the above mentioned products if you need any more information. All my solders I purchase from BLT Circuits ( England ) , all sizes , lead free and leaded available. A very good firm . Hope that all helps you , good luck and thanks again for your comments 👍

Hi . Thank you for watching . The flux I use is called SMFL200D . It comes in a 200ml spray can . I just squirt a small amount into a small container and apply using a dipped Ty wrap. About £14 a can from Farnell , RS Components , seen it on eBay as well . Pretty easy to get . I generally use 0.25mm solder ( leaded and unleaded from company in England called BLT Circuits ) very good stuff they supply , would recommend. Hope that helps , thanks again 👍

ah man you make it look so easy lol. ive got motherboards that need new cpu sockets and i'd love to be able to repair them as its not exactly well heard of. i tried simple soldering using a gas solder (cheap crap i learnt fast dont worry) on an old board to practice, and i couldnt even place the smd in position it looked like i had parkinsons as its so small. although i wasnt in a good mind state then. i have a few jobs needing some soldering tlc shall we say but im not touching a thing till yet. videos like this, detailing everything helps a lot. thanks man. PS: if you can change cpu sockets youll make my whole year lol.
