Nobody has enough time these days - but our efforts to cope with busyness just leave us feeling busier. Ancient philosophers and cutting-edge research agree on the surprising solution: learn to love your limits. Oliver Burkeman is a columnist for The Guardian, based in Brooklyn, and author of The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can’t Stand Positive Thinking.

Oliver's talk reminds me of that ancient phrase "Memento Mori". Remember that you will die - a great way to think about your daily choices in life.

This is amazing. Oliver is a genuine master of his craft! This stuff needs to be viewed more widely. But then, truth has never been popular. And popularity is never the touchstone either for establishing the truth of something. In his academy, Plato will sometimes see only one student, Aristotle who had come to attend his lecture. Plato will say, "In having you here, Aristotle, we have half of the Athens present!"

Currently reading his book; Four Thousand Hours. Thus my reason for searching for him on UKposts. I think his book is liberating as time has been a big struggle for me lately.

I’m obsessed with time. Always have. More so getting older with more going on, being busier in life. Certain personalities are more obsessed with time.

More than the irony of the speaker checking the clock for his presentation, as he explains how not to fight time?!

One of the best Ted Talks I have seen. But why the really distracting constantly repeated "GameOver" visual plugging away next to Oliver?

Yes. Distracting, wasn’t it?

Yes!! Worst thing I’ve seen as part of any TED talk video production. At first I thought someone made some kind of error and left it running in the background by accident 😮 Started dreading the shots where it would appear on the left side…

It seems that a lot of things he talked about overlaps with a book called Essentialism. I highly recommend the book I found you want to learn more about what he talked about!

I'm captivated by the intellectual caliber of this material. A book with parallel content significantly influenced my opinions. "Dominating Your Clock: Strategies for Professional and Personal Success" by Anthony Rivers

I like this idea and talk about time. It's too bad I didn't have time to finish the video.

I feel several concepts he talks about are linked to living life in the context of Existential philosophical ideas. Facing the reality of impending death, life is a series of choices which we need to consider our freedom vs responsibility for, human existence is so fleeting and therefore both pointless and also paradoxically deeply meaningful, essentially we are alone in this world. When you internalise these ideas, you naturally live more authentically and your time is managed accordingly?! Highly simplified, but my take on it nevertheless xx

Great speech and a great book. BUT! British people avoid conflict at all costs and never want to say no to anybody?!? Has he ever met a British person? I can't think of a group of people on Earth who match that description less.

Speaking 18 minutes, but actually not saying anything. If people stopped adding words to the conversation (speech) that don't have importance to the actual message, then everyone would save lots of time. From academic articles to average Tedx talks, people add meaningless words. I read some of technical books that were written 2-3 decades ago and I realized they are simpler and more concise than modern ones while educating you. Apparent examples as verbose are Jordan Peterson and 99% of Tedx talks.

Well I understand your point But no one is gonna remember an isolated fact. These talks are influential bcz of the meaningless words... Infact your comment shows that you didn't understand the meaning of this video. You aim to do many many more things with your time... But in the end it only causes more harm than good... I am myself someone who likes to be efficient But sometimes you need to relax and live life in the moment... jusstt relax

Absolutely a incorrect assessment of human life. He is part of the pretenders who think that they are a important.cog in the echo system of humanity. The Poor of the world who make up the majority think differently. A sad display of time mis spent.
