How to Train Your Eyes to See like an Artist
Learn the most efficient method to train your eyes to see like an artist by physically developing the neural pathways you need to unlock the artist eye. See like an artist by training your eyes to actively and critically view how things relate to each other in order to create artistic relationships that work in harmony together.

Awesome video for understanding how an artist is superior to a layman whenever it's a matter of seeing but not just watching .

Excellent tutorial. Daniel, I have watched many art videos in the past couple of years while on medical leave from work. I had decided that I was going to take what I liked best from each style and technique and ultimately become an amalgam of the many and varied artistic choices practised. In listening to your video, before you were actually finished I said to myself, "I am going to learn everything they have to teach. That is what I need most now." When the money becomes available I will enrol. Until then, I will start doing what I have learned from you today and am sure to improve. Many thanks!

I remember my own version of how things that I thought were white weren't actually white. When I was little I would open real life pictures in Photoshop or any art app and use the eye dropper tool to get the color, because trying to choose the colors on my own never made it look right. I was very surprised to see how different the selected color was from the color that I thought it was. I was even more surprised when I started clicking around with the color picker at how many colors it actually took to make (for example) a plain black cat. It has been years since I had a drawing kick but I still really enjoy watching art advice videos, and this video was especially helpful. Maybe I'll go draw something. 😺

I'm still studying the fundamentals and I'm a bit lost. I want to be a painter who can illustrate people in interesting dynamic poses but I read that I'll have to learn to draw first before I could paint. I seem to struggle a lot with using line over shapes.
@evolveartist
@evolveartist Рік тому
Hey Mish 🙂 I remember your comment on our video about how you actually don’t need to learn to draw before painting (ukposts.info/have/v-deo/bGZ_lYB8lnxlwHk.html) and I’m sorry to hear that you’re still feeling lost after 10 months. Have you thought about joining Evolve Artist and getting rid of the confusion? 10 months is a long time, and I wouldn’t want you to stay in the same place 10 months from now, when we get artists to pro skills in about 12 months. I sincerely do my best to give you all the education I can in these videos on UKposts, but it’s nothing compared to the one-to-one feedback you get in Evolve and the step-by-step approach to learning, where you only have to focus on one thing at a time. Part of the confusion happens when you listen to multiple voices and try to juggle all of them and concoct your own path to real skills. I made a video about this you might find really helpful to give yourself some more direction in mapping out that path. bit.ly/get-pro-art-skills hope that helps Mish! Amazing tutorial, but my question is, how to measure? I was at my first anatomy class( i did 2 years of still life drawing before and practiced anatomy as a self taught before the academy which helped me a lot) and notice the mistakes AFTER the drawing is finished, how should I take these measures? My pencil moves while I am taking them
@evolveartist
@evolveartist Рік тому
Great question Anastasia! We teach how to measure more thoroughly in the Evolve program, but basically, from where you’re sitting at the easel, you find your “standard unit of measure” - let’s say the sphere in this video and then hold up a pencil and line the top of it up to the top of the sphere. Have your thumb on the top of the pencil, and then slowly drag your thumb down until you reach the bottom of the sphere. Then, without moving your thumb, move your arm to hover the object you want to measure and compare its length to the sphere. It might be 1.1 or 1.2, for example. Hopefully that made sense. Again, we teach all this in the Evolve program and if you want to measure really accurately, you should definitely check it out! 😊 ~ Daniel

It’s only recently I’ve realised it’s the same when designing an interior. That blue cushion might look a bit dull, but pop a mustard yellow or green next to it, and suddenly it takes on a whole different role.

About how long would you say it would take to become competent at proportional drawing? For almost a month now I've been doing nothing but proportion training and I don't think I've really made any tangible progress. I'd really like to get to a point where if and when I make a mistake, I can easily identify and correctly fix it. I usually don't see my mistakes until I've done the whole drawing or if I did catch a mistake mid drawing, it takes way too long to correct it and I'd just end up having to do the entire drawing over again from scratch. I made the mistake of going straight into spending 1.5 years learning to draw the figure but my general ability to "see" is so bad that none of that really matters cause more often than not my drawings are really inaccurate anyways.

I felt like I understand this video. But once the video is finished, I'm like "what'd I learn?" I've replayed this video 3 times, yet I'm still not sure of the purpose of this video. I will watch this video over and over until I understand the purpose of this video because I feel like this is worth watching

😂I think I know what you mean! This video might make more sense if you watch the other videos inside the playlist I created this for: ukposts.info/slow/PLlBZ6D4J51BMfilYd3PhLTsjmt9pabRu8 The videos on values, edges, and color are all examples of taking the concepts in this video of and applying them to your painting. And then once you watch this video, it should all come together: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/pKmGfYNva2Ziy6c.html If it doesn't let me know and we can keep talking 🙂 Because in this video I'm talking about something that, while essential, is also pretty abstract. So hopefully those other videos will help it all fit together and give you some more actionable takeaways. Hope that helps! ~ Daniel

Take your time! Our brain needs a little bit of time to develop these neural pathways. Challenge yourself to stay consistent, rather than challenge yourself to see deeply you can fry your brain 🤯 Take one step at a time, and the skills will come! ~ Daniel
