I installed my new CPU then realized I forgot to update my BIOS, and the computer wouldn't boot. This video was easy to follow and I was able to update my BIOS with the new CPU already installed. Amazing quality of life feature.

For those who cannot solve the problem with the Solid Green Light and did everything showed in the video. Revise the Drive Partition Format. In the Windows Format Tool it does NOT appear. So, use Diskpart for checking if your Drive is using MBR or GPT format. As you know, for flashing you have to use MBR.

You can change the filename without the BIOS Renamer program. Make sure your USB Drive has the partition scheme of Master Boot Record and not GUID Partition Map. If it blinks a couple of times, then turns solid blue, then something wasn't set up correctly. If it keeps blinking until it goes out completely, then it worked properly.

Hello, in the case of ASUS PRIME B450M-A II AM4, which USB port would be the one related to the USB BIOS FlashBack? as there is none marked as in the motherboard shown in the video.

Does the newer "exFAT" format work as well, or does it have to be "FAT32" specifically for something like the ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PRO (WI-FI) for instance?

Great Video. I do need a bit more info. I downloaded the file to a USB (Fat). I expanded the file. I now have to rename it. But can I use this same USB for the update of the BIOS, you mentioned moving the file. If so, I would only need the renamed file on the USB. Bob

I also have this question in mind that, after a successful bios flashback without its components on the motherboard. Do I just unplug the cables (8pin and 24pin) from the motherboard and install the components such as cpu, gpu, ram, m.2 nvme? will it damage my device or its fine?

Oh so it IS possible to update even without the CPU installed/recognized. That's good news. I don't have any other AMD CPU's and I wanted to make sure the 5600x will work with this board.

If you have an indicator flashing after pressing the button and then it becomes permanent, it means that your USB flash drive is incorrectly formatted. Use rufus to create a bootable USB flash drive in mbr!

When we have to rename the file, do we need to do that process on the same pc we are about to update Bios or can we do it on another pc or laptop and then move on with the pc we want to update? Because now i can’t have access to my pc and that’s why i want to update Bios

Where's the download section for downloading the bios? Each time I click on the link, it gets me back to the page where I have to put in my model name. I don't get the actual download link for the latest bios anymore.

I don't have bios renamer, when I try to flashback it blips for 5 seconds then stays solid indicating it's not able to read the file... My motherboard is x99-A

I tried updating it using a usb drive with 32 Gb capacity and the bios led just kept being solid color. But then I found an old usb drive with 8 Gb in my desk and tried updating with it and it worked! So if someone has a similar problem, I guess it's better to use small capacity usb drives.

Hi, got my computer built for me in middle of 2020 (ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (WI-FI). I've never updated the BIOS. Can I use this method to update the BIOS to the very latest BIOS version directly? I saw a youtube video that says you may have to update "incrementally". In other words, update to newer versions one at a time, until you get to the latest version...is this correct? Thank you.

How long is this supposed to take after the lights blink? I have a z690 motherboard that posted once when I installed windows 10 on a drive, but now won’t post. I’ve cleared CMOS. Had the RAM and CPU tested on another board, both worked fine. Tried different CPU and RAM on this board and still won’t post. Im convinced o got a bad board out of the box

My board's LED blinks a few times and then keeps on. I Did the process several times with 3 different usb devices, correct Bios, FAT32, everything fine.

After bios update, turn off the computer to finish the update. If you are experiencing black screen this could be that fast boot is enabled so usb drivers wont recognize and show screen. To fix this reset the cmos, unplug the power from computer, hold power for 60 seconds to drain any excess power, install 1 ram stick into slot as shown in owners manual, startup PC and it should have reset bios to continue update. Also good practice to reset power bar if not connected directly to wall.

Hey, I'm using the prime x670-p wifi with bios version of 0823 (or something, which is very old). I'm trying to update to 1811 but it refused to. Light stayed solid green. Even though I formatted fat32, MBR. Used exactly same usb stick I previously updated the bios with. Any solutions? Or is it like I need to install other bios versions first? (according to FAQ Flashback page.

Does BIOS flashback recovery work if you interrupted a regular flash mid flash during power loss? Does BIOS flashback work and restarts correctly if you interrupt the FlashBack operation during the green blinking by removing the USB for example? I'm not advising to screw around during the process, I just want to know how user proof or event proof the FlashBack option is or if its just a way to flash without turning the PC on. I always thought FlashBack was a disaster recovery option but it might not be. EDIT: Contacted ASUS, the rep had no idea on the technical side. He said that if the process fails and FlashBack doesnt work i should RMA the board

The support page does not have an entry for the ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II in its drop down list AND the BIOS for the entry without the (II) will not work (if you try EZ Flash it will claim it is not a BIOS file). You have to google for the entire name and get a direct link to the support page to get the right BIOS file.

Hi, don't know what else to try to fix this, but here we go. Ryzen 5 3600 x570 Tuf Gaming Plus/Br Shapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5 and two sticks of RAM Hyperx Predator 8GB 3200 Mhz DDR4 Bought this setup on october 2020, and after some months, it started to have some problem, with no image on screen and the yellow light on DRAM led. After trying a bit of everything, it usually works with one stick at the A2 slot, and when I power on, the yellow DRAM led turns on, turns off, then the red CPU led turns on, then off and the PC starts. But not since yesterday. And always tried switching sticks, switching slots, reset CMOS. Recently I checked the CPU pins and two were bent, tried to fix them and they seem OK today, checked twice. Added more thermal paste. Nothing works anymore. Need the PC to work and everything. Checked the last BIOS update and its from July 17 (version 4802), can't remember I update for this one, but I think it was for the 4602 version, about 45 days ago I think. Any help is appreciated, thanks

Can the bios of B450 MK -II be updated after installing all the components i.e Cpu (Ryzen 5 5000 series) and ram?

On my zenith extreme, the light does not flash at all when pressed. I have tried the USB supplied with the original bios cap file and it does work. I have also tried other USB ( fat32 format )with the latest bios on them. I also have another issue say LED firmware is updating on each boot lasting 2 hours that I was hoping this would fix.

If you use the renamer tool that comes with the download, your computer may not show the ".CAP" extension on the file. Before you do anything CHECK TO SEE IF WINDOWS IS SET TO HIDE FILE EXTENSIONS. I had this issue with the missing file, and I manually added the ".CAP" extension - flashing my new motherboard failed as a result. When I plugged the USB into another windows device (with file extensions visible), the file was ".CAP.CAP".

This feature just saved my ass on my new Asus z790 Maximus Hero.

I thought I was screwed and had to put my 12700k back in I was upgrading to a i9 13900kf and thought I had bios updated I have a custom water loop it's a pain to switch everything I first tried bios flash back I couldn't get it to work but found out the USB drive I had was no good only formatted to fat instead of fat 32 I got another one and worked flawless 😊

Is that mean I completed my bios updated even though it already assembled?

in my AMD (5600 CPU + 6700 GPU) gaming PC from March 2021, the "ASUS ROG STRIX B500-F GAMING" motherboard is installed with the BIOS version "1805" ... I use the current version of Windows 10 Home 22H2 ... if I want to update this older BIOS version now as shown in this video, do I always use the latest version on top of the list, even if it is actually designed for Windows 11 or do I have to use the latest version in the list especially designed for Windows 10 instead? ... by the way, as far as I can judge it this PC is still running fast and fluid with no issues like on the first day ... ok, if at some point I have to switch to Windows 11 in autumn 2025 at the latest or maybe something more current from Microsoft, then I will probably have to install the latest BIOS version, because I assume that will not happen automatically, right?

Hello, I followed the exact same steps in this video and when the BIOS Flashback stopped blinking, I turned on my computer and got a message on a black screen saying “BIOS is updating LED firmware. Do not shut down or reset the system to prevent system bootup failure”. Then my computer restarted by its own and not showing anything in the monitor for 90 minutes now. The motherboard has solid white light. What do I do? My motherboard is B550E gaming.
