I completely disagree. This was some of the best acting I've ever seen by Will Smith. While I didn't really like the movie, it shot Mr. Smith up to being one of my favorite actors. He's done plenty of drama, and this movie was a testament to his ability as a veteran actor. There was a lot of things wrong with the film. Smith was not really one of them. Although there may be others more suited to the character from purely a storytelling standpoint, Will sells tickets and did an outstanding job.

There was an alternative ending where Robert Neville lives and they both get off the island by using a bridge that was intact. (Possibly a bridge used only for military personals during the evac of Manhattan) which could explain it being intact. In the original ending it's very likely she used the same bridge as in the alternative ending
