While in North Carolina we cleaned up this historic cemetery. This was one of the stop locations on our SOUTHERN DOMINATION TOUR and the job took 2 days in total. It was really very interesting to see several civil war era tombstones but it was REALLY COOL to FIND some of these lost TOMBSTONES. I wonder how long that they have been covered. There were also a lot of grave stones that were marking the grave sites of children. My Heart was full when my daughter showed interest in what I was doing here and asked if she could clean some tombstones with me. She gravitated to helping the sites of children and as her father this made be very proud. Madison also helped me to clean up the headstone of a confederate soldier which was a great opportunity to talk with her about the history of the area and the history of country's during the civil war. I found this to be an important conversation considering the recent divisions in our country. If you don't know where I stand I personally feel we should all pull our heads out of our asses and love one another but thats just my opinion.
I would also like to thank the two Mormons ( Elder Littlefield and Elder Terry ) Who helped me out with cleaning a few of the headstones. It was great to get to meet them while they are on Mission.
I really enjoyed this project and found a lot of meaning in it. I am super grateful to have the opportunity to do the work that I do for a living.
I don't operate off of donations but if you would like to help me out the best way to do that is to give the video a like, comment on the video, and share the video to your favorite social media platform like Facebook. also if you haven't yet please consider subscribing as it not only helps me out but helps to insure that you continue to get notified whenever we post a new project. Thank you so much for the support it goes a very long ways to allowing me to continue to do the work that I do and I would not be able to do it without the support of our audience.

Hey guys. I am a genealogist and family historian. I am very interested in old abandoned cemeteries. Do you happen to know if this cemetery is found on findagrave or billion graves? If so what is the name of the cemetery? I’d like to do some research on those buried there.

As someone who is into genealogy and the keeper of much of my family’s history, thank you. This helps so many people in their search to connect and find info. These cemeteries are often the connection to finding that missing link. The more we care for them the better. Also, no one deserves to be forgotten. So thank you.

The voiceover about enterprise and getting better and better, not lesser & lesser made me think differently about getting older. Anyone can see that your were very committed to this project. Thanks for all the little extras you put into it. When I was a child up in central NY State, I used to help my mother cleanup the untended graves in our little town's cemetery just before Memorial Day, One that day there was always a parade with the high school marching band leading it. The parade ended in the cemetery with veterans shooting off a salute. The heart shape was nice, but I thought you had planned it that way! Also glad to see in the comments from a thankful relative of someone buried there. Blessing to you and your increasing family.

Thank you for cleaning that cemetery. My grandparents cemetery was bought by a man that didn't know it was a cemetery. It's out of state from where I live, and family keeps up our part of it. Last year a young couple took on the whole cemetery and cleaned 6 foot plus weeds, fallen trees, and garbage that people dumped. Once that clean up was made, the historical society added it to there monthly clean up. You might bring notice to this and by your kindness get this place taken care of for good. At least we were lucky to have that happen for us. As for as baby names we just welcomed baby Luke Donald into our family on Sept 3rd. I wanted it to be Luke Brian, but they wouldn't go for it. LOL

I hope the city notices and someone waters and cares for them. And the flags!! Just wow!! YOU, SIR, are the MOST thoughtful, hard-working young man! Kevin, these cemeteries make a great Eagle Scout project. If you find another one, reach out to the local Boy Scout Council to coordinate a project. The project should include both the cleanup as well as safely cleaning the stones , photographing and uploading to Find-a-grave, if this hasn’t been done. If the Scouts aren’t interested, then do what you do best.

Thank you for spending the time and effort needed to clean up this cemetery. I suppose it's only natural that after immediate family members die off or move away, there is no one left to care about the graveyard or the markers, so what you did means a great deal to the community where the cemetery exists. I am a volunteer with the grass-roots effort called 'By Memorial Day' whose goal it is to clean all veteran headstones in private, public, and municipal cemeteries each year 'By Memorial Day.' We can always use more volunteers, so if anyone reading this comment wants to know more, search UKposts for the channel, 'Honor Your DNA'. Again, thank you Kevin. Mowing lawns for free to help people out shows great character. Doing that work - and more - for people who can never thank you is even greater.

Thanks for doing this. A historic cemetery should be maintained by the local municipality (city or county) or the very least the local historical society. What a shame it has been neglected. @@Oregonduck09 Understood. Florence made landfall in Sept 2018. We have public works depts whose responsibilities include the maintenance of public cemeteries. A crew of 4 could have cleaned up the cemetery before lunch. Neither the public works director nor any of the county commissioners, city council members, or the mayor thought it was worth the investment of a crew for a half day to clean up the cemetery... in the last 4 years... That kind of civic neglect is how you end up with a water system the likes of Jackson, Mississippi.

Originally from Independence, Missouri, my brother found an old abandoned cemetery with our ancestors in it between 2 properties. Overgrown, he mowed it and has kept up with it. It was a wonderful thing to walk around admiring all of the tombstones, some over 7 foot tall! I took pictures and put them on Facebook. Each one is such a treasure! One of my ancestors was a doctor and he treated Jesse James at the height of his robberies, for gunshot wounds. His brother Frank is buried in the back of my childhood park. I guess he didn't survive the gunshot wounds. I saw Jenkins on one of the stones y'all polished and have lots of relatives with that name! We have relatives from NC who then moved to Missouri where I was born. One of my brothers did our genealogy and found out that some of our ancestors were horse thieves 🤯 But our claim to fame is that he found out we are blood related to Bess Truman, wife of Harry. He lived on the "square " in independence after his presidency and secret service men lived in the 3 other houses next to him until he passed. I worked in the hospital where he had a "suite" so that the outer room had secret Service guarding him. His Dr Wallace Graham was a very good friend of mine but I never personally met Truman. I saw him from a distance once at his home when another president was visiting. Thanks so much for this work and especially the sermons and speeches that you shared during the process...y'all rock!!!

Kevin, Thank you for taking care of the forgotten. All, I do have a family grave site similar to that, but fortunately, it's next to a church. Their markers are very old and worn off on some. That's what happens to the 1600s headstones. We, who are left to the task of taking care of our ancestors resting places, have a huge responsibility of documenting for our own offspring. I just received a message today from my cousins daughter who asked her mother. Life does go on and so does our curiosity.

Just an FYI on large tree waste. Now this varies from city to city, but MOST cities (not all, but most especially in hurricane prone areas) will do "large debris pickup" of tree waste. Just call the city and they will tell you if they do it and how/where to pile it, then they will scheduled a waste truck to swing by that area to pick it up.
