FIXING STUFF IN THE SHEEP BARN.
I finally got a day off the farm, to attend a board meeting. Mark was left in charge, and apparently, he had a day similar to one of mine.
Meaning, something broke.
Unfortunately, it was due to me.
Just when I thought that was the only issue, I was quickly proved wrong when I went to open our overhead door.
Let's just say, I'm glad I'm not scared of heights...

THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!!!

I’d let it go, because he was taking on your chores along with his own regular responsibilities. And no one will ever do it the way you would. If everyone survived and he took care of all the major issues, that’s a win-win.

Look up bird spikes, you can mount them on ledges and it prevents the birds from landing and creating nests, Saves you from having to keep checking up on it as well :)

Treasure Trovel 2 days ago (edited) I would get a number of rubber snakes to put on all the ledges to scare the birds. You will have to move them around periodically to keep the birds spooked. There is also a gadget called a Rid a Rat that is a small strobe light that operates for about 6 months on 2 AA batteries. It has two strong magnets for mounting inside the hood of the car to deter rodents from nesting. The strobe light is small enough that I think it would just perturb the local area up at the top of the door (and would not spook the sheep). It would freak the birds out. I purchased the device on Amazon

Sandi, Mark loves you whether you “work dads chickens,” drive the grain cart, or work with the sheep. He loves you, for you, not for what you do. And I’m sure wether Mark was a mechanic, truck driver, or grain farmer you would love him for who he is, not what he does or how he does it. If both of you did things the same way, one of you wouldn’t be needed!!! SO DONT SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF..... And for heavens sake MAKE time to go out ......you both deserve it!!!👍🤠

I have a work-around for the insulation on the milk lines. When we need long, temporary insulation we use pool noodles. They come in a wide range of thicknesses and length. The birds are nesting there because it’s covered and they deem it safe to raise babies Try setting up nesting boxes it should help, that way they’ll be less inclined to nest on your garage door, set them up the opposite side of the barn door as that way they won’t associate the chain with the nesting boxes Edit: grammer

Sandi when I was first married and was having twins went into pre term labor and was on bed rest, I learned he was a child about his priorities. I had friends from church and they made food and brought it to me. I came after baseball. He was never going to change that part of priorities. He did amazing things after they were born, he helped feed them in the middle of the night, and got up and worked the next day. ( premise, had to be fed every 2 hours for like a month. I just had to learn to appreciate what he did do and let grace cover it 😁... 39 years later that still works, and he has had a lot to cope with. Last year I had a massive heart attack with no symptoms and 6 months later I slipped on tile in the bathroom and broke a leg. I had 5 pins and was in a wheelchair for 4 weeks after I came home... He did an ok job taking care of me. If it was perfect I would have taken a lot longer to be functional. ;)

Sandi: I have this silo bag tape, which is like the greatest tape ever. Also Sandi: This is not sticky at all! It's crap! We also had problems with birds, they would literally build anywhere that made it super inconvenient for us, like the tongue of the trailer! Like why!? So after destroying three nests we decided to just build them a house, they actually sat on the telephone lines and watched us build their house, the moment it was up and we stepped away they came to check it out and started gathering nesting material right away. Never had a problem with them since. Pretty smart animals, they pretty much MADE us build a house for them.

There is something to learn about sheep farming in every single video and it has helped me out so much working with our sheep. Thanks again Sandi!

We have to use the mylar ribbon under our carport. We had a bird that kept nesting in the beams and leaving a huge mess on everything. Great, cheap fix.

I shall reply in the hopes that makes your comment more noticeable. Although, I do think the type of bird she has the barn would require the spikes that are closer & more dense than traditional pigeon spikes. They work by preventing birds from landing & walking about. If the species in her barn are too small, the normal ones won't work.
@jshanline
@jshanline 4 роки тому
Agreed, sparrow and chickadee sized birds would love pigeon sized spikes cuz they do 1/3 the work for the birds upfront. They just set up shop between the spikes since they don’t generally need to land when they are building nests.

Sandi as to the things on the "To Do List" not getting done. Live in the solution. Focus on fixing the situation then possibly who did or didn't do what. It is so easy and common for us as humans to get caught up in the blame game. Sticking to "I statement" when trying to communicate stuff like "I feel such-and-such when this and that chore isn't done, it really holds up the whole process of what we need to get done around here". You are doing really well. Keep being awesome!

HAINT BLUE Here in the South we paint our porch ceilings Haint Blue. It keeps evil spirits, BIRDS and bugs away. Scientists believe the color blue matches the sky. This discourages birds from building because they want to be somewhere protected. You have many surfaces up there but it may be a solution. The view from the top of the door is AWESOME. Thank you.

I would do something else - I would thank him for the help and make sure he knows I'm grateful, and if its something important I would politely ask to do it other way next time. Every time I wanna say something like that to my husband I ask myself how I would feel if he confronted me that way and change it to be nicer :) He loves you as much as you love him and its not worth it to be petty :)

I get and have lived the farm life “get ur done” mentality, but you really need to invest in a harness, lanyard and anchor points if you are going to be trying to work that high. Same for Mark or kids in or on the grain bins.
