Mike you don’t need to let the machine idle while doing a regen, keep working it and the regen be a lot quicker. Truckers never let the truck idle to do a regen, they keep going and hardly notice a regen is happening. The hotter the engine the quicker the regen, so it makes more sense to keep working it.

The Split Fire is a back saver. Ever watch strong man competitions? A man can dead lift 600 lbs on a barbell, but picking up the 600 lbs ball to lift onto the stand is nearly impossible. Lifting those rounds would have been like those balls. The split fire is perfect for downsizing. Smarter, not harder!! I hope that when splitting, you find the metal. I liked it when you told those first two logs paid for two loads. Now that's awesome!! Thanks, Mike. Nice video. 👍🚜❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

That sure is a handy gadget! I've had rounds nearly that big that I had to saw into pieces just so I could lift them onto the splitter! Your way is much easier and faster. I'm 70 years old now, and most of the things I used to do the hard way are nearly impossible for me now. My tractor takes up a lot of that slack, but what I've seen you do with that excavator makes me think that I might have to get one of those. It would definitely extend my years working in the woods! Not ready to give that up just yet! Thanks for all the entertaining and informative videos. God bless you and your family.

Hi Morgan's! Mike you've got the tools for sure and you know how to use them! You have mastered your wood splitting techniques with your various equipment and have become very efficient! That's the way to maximize your time usage and make the most money for your time spent. Way to go! We all, well a lot of us, realize your sizeable investment in your machinery, but you use it all and utilize it well. You get the most bang for your buck for sure! We really enjoy what you do and all that you do! It was great to see Melissa, although in a cameo appearance the other day, as well as daughter Eva in the video where she helped you at the saw mill. I know that you are proud of her as you should be. She definitely is a rock star in her own right! She has intelligence, good looks and a great deal of confidence for a young lady! Way to go Eva! Best of luck to you and your family always and may God continue to bless you! From your fans out here in beautiful western Colorado! 😊

Good Morning Mike. I have found that if you run your engines at pto rated speed ( over 2200 rpm)while working you will greatly reduce the regen if not nearly eliminate it. Skid steers should be run at least at 3/4 throttle for both hydraulic and engine efficiency. Diesels thrive at these speeds. Yes it will increase fuel consumption but the wasted fuel in a regen will cost you more by wasted “wait time”. I have a RK tractor that has 500+ hours and never had to regen by using this technique. It has a Yanmar engine. The loader backhoes with hydrostatic transmission also work more efficiently at pto engine rpm. Think about it.. you mow a 100 acre field you do it at pto rpm and the tractor is designed to do that day in and day out. Only one real downside is that it is much louder to maintain this practice. Love your program. I enjoyed meeting both of you at Spruce Knob in West Virginia last September. I was with two friends on motor cycles. Keep doing what you do. It gives me the fun of “working with you in the wood yard.” I have owned all of the equipment and then some that you operate. Can’t get enough of it so I operate that excavator with you from my favorite chair in the off hours. The wife says my hands are moving while I watch.

Mike, my tractor is a Kubota M6060 and I pull a Dragonfly arena drag for many very high end equestrian competitions. My tractor would want a regen at all the worst times. I would have to hide deep in the woods during regen so it wouldn't spook the horses (we have anywhere from 500 to 1000 horses per show) I asked another driver with a tractor like mine how does he deal with it and he told me to ignore it, with 2 flashing lights and a loud beeper it was tough but I did it..... it's been 2 years now, the beeper doesn't come on any more and the flashing lights go off after just a couple minutes.....my tractor does not use DEF and I don't know if that makes a difference

Hey Mike, I'm currently building a splitter for my mini ex. I bought an old 3 point logsplitter at auction years ago. I think it will help me bust down the big stuff just like your doing!! I'm curious to see what was in that log. I once got a log from the local park that had 2 baseballs inside it. Even cooler instance, when I was a young lad about 14 yrs old helping my grandfather split wood he was splitting a big crotch in an old oak and about 10 arrowheads fell out!!! It was like a stash or something! I'll never forget that!

Having said that and listening to you over the last few weeks I think part of your plan has some overlapping needs. You have said your getting a kiln. You have invested your self in an aggressive production plan of fire wood and lumber. I would offer that your needs will soon be highly demanding in order for you to make both your firewood production and your lumber drying work produce your future needs that you are going to have to fine tune and work your YARD hard to keep the utilization of the kiln at its max as well as keeping the sawmill making dust asuch as possible. Used to work making production schedules in major construction and can see your days getting busier and busier. Have a good day and make lots of dust

It would be interesting to know what triggers these machines to go into regen, hours? engine temps? Like to think I'M smarter than the machine...Doesn't always work out that way.
@johnchappell4492
@johnchappell4492 Місяць тому
@@happyrecluse2849 There is a sensor on the DPF that detects how full/clogged it is by measuring backpressure from the exhaust. Once the backpressure exceeds some threshold, the regen is triggered. How long between regens is largely a function of how the machine is run. If the engine is usually run at high RPM and high load, it produces enough heat to slow down filling the DPF, so less regens are needed. Running for shot periods and at low RPM and loads, the engine doesn't reach and maintain high enough temps to burn off the particulate matter and soot, so it builds up in the DPF faster. All a regen is doing is getting the engine exhaust really hot (over 1500 degrees), by running the engine at high RPM and injecting fuel into the exhaust. That heat then converts the soot trapped by the DPF into CO2, and "cleans" the DPF.

Would love to see a video on how your packaging system for the fire starter is working.

Just a guess. But maybe the Regen is happening due to the constant start/stop of the machines, instead of leaving them running, Eva's video must have started and stopped the excavator 8-10 times. Run all your machines on the max RPMwgen your using them, not 1/4 or 1/2 throttle (or it sounds like it on the videos -maybe just quiet machines) That will reduce your Regen times as your filter wont be constantly plugged due to start/stop and low rpm running for long periods of time
