GMOD takes me back to the Golden era of gaming. I miss playing this in 2007. Learning the wire mod, building contraptions to drag into rp servers and cause havoc, and watching movies fully captured in GMOD on Machinima were the best days ever. If you haven't seen War Of The Servers, it's worth falling into a nostalgia hole to watch.

i'm genuinely glad that garry's mod is still around. i've been playing it literally since i was like 9-10 with 8-10k+ hours and i grew up with it. nowadays i don't play as much and when i do it's because i've found a community to stick around with for a while but after that phase is over i usually back off from Garry's Mod again for months up to whole years till i come back. it's easy to say that it's the most memorable game ever for me.

The gaming landscape is truly changing for the worse in my personal view The human touch seems to disappear or be gone in the new games out there, even in these sandbox modes I've been whining and crying for a while about this, and I am scared with what kids grow up in this landscape made to scam them out of their allowance at hyper efficiency whilst giving a sub par video game experience. Whilst we had straight up milestones to be played for years since the 90s but now seem to get forgotten by the newest generation. I am reflecting from what I observe from the youngest family members in my family though, so I don't speak for all of course. But the best we have now game wise seems worse than some of our worst. I dunno, I am also a nostalgic little asshole in the end and just woke up so I am speaking all retarded too. I am just jaded over the modern internet in general because I miss that wild west of old

I currently have 1500 hours in GMod, a vast majority of that was single player, I never had friends and my brother was the only other person I knew who played it. I'm too insecure to play the countless online modes and when I did I always felt...left out. So I created my own stories, the NPC's became my friends and the maps my world. You know Toy Story? It was like that. Even though I can't relate to the social aspects of Garry's Mod, I do have plenty of fond memories of it.

This was a fantastic video, as someone who has had been apart of gmod since 2009 it's been an amazing thing to play and develop in. While yes this game will eventually die, I think that the dedicated players will still stick to it even when S&Box comes out mainly for that old source feeling and the hl2 base assets. I do plan on buying S&Box when it releases (in 2030 or some shit), and as someone who like developing things I am excited to learn something else besides lua and be able to use a lot more features in the new source 2 engine.

I was 10 years old when Gmod 0.7 was released. I wish the video talked more about the building side of things, cause it's a whole other rabbit-hole. Back in the day my favorite thing was "wood wars", where players would cobble together wooden boxes, pallets and planks into something that'd function vaguely like a combat vehicle - using prop spawners and ent_fire commands to ignite and launch explosive propane cannisters from barrels made of wood planks, and attempting to blast one another to bits. Beyond that you had people making big space cruisers from combine razor trains and barricade props; race cars made from oil barrels and bath-tubs, you name it - someone had even made a functioning, wooden Vulture from Mechwarrior using a copious amount of hydraulic and elastic constraints. As the game and its addons came further along, with things like Wiremod/E2, Fin tool, Gcombat then its successor ACF, this side of Gmod became simultaneously more complex, and less accessible. At this point you can make practically anything so long as you have the patience and willingness to learn, with fully-simulated terminal ballistics, complex engine and gear systems, proper steering and suspension, swashplates for helicopters etc. It was really special to me and it's kinda sad to see it all sidelined in the public consciousness in favor of things like DarkRP and TTT.

Garry's mod was 100% more fun when people were actually playing the game and not just following a rule guideline. Also the pay to win stuff is getting out of hand.

I have over 2,000+ hours each in Project Zomboid and Garry's Mod, both of which are 95% heavily fine tuned singleplayer sandbox heavens with years of tweaking. Project Zomboid I have set as an immersive story over multiple survivor's stories, their' struggles and inevitable deaths. On the other hand my Garry's Mod sandbox is a first person/third person horde/all out hl2 factional war between Combine, Zombies/Aliens, ???, and rebels; Of which I may choose my side and hell be a damn combine elite. It's beautiful, so much so that I very well may shed tears of joy and equal sorrow when Garry's Mod 2 releases, as it's predecessor will hand off the reigns to a new age. P.S.-Love the vid, you've got a new subscriber! Also yes I am biased in my love for Gmod and disdained distrust of most triple A studios after all of the half finished dumpster fires that have been released in the last decade or more.

S&Box actually looks pretty good IMO, there's a ton of good features for developers to take advantage of that make it so much more open than GMod. That being said, I don't think there will be anything quite like the good old days of hopping into a solo gmod server with a thousand mods and just going ham for hours, or raiding a random TTT server with all of your friends and colluding together on how to always win as traitor, or making a crime syndicate on DarkRP

i honestly kinda think fornite creative 2.0 won't really reach that much appeal? and it especially won't win against roblox lol. biggest problem with fortnite creative is that you literally can't make copyrighted stuff (fnaf for example) and upload it. while in roblox you can and even still make money from it. fortnite loses both battles, against gmod and against roblox. against gmod it just can't compete of how many addons and such already exist, and you can really create what you want from other people, while in fortnite you are still confined to the singular place, no mix and matching afaik. and it's not even good for making real games, because why not just make an actual game with unreal engine? honestly i kinda thing fortnite creative 2.0 will fall flat.

Gmod was my first PC game. I spent way too many hours on it just messing with different maps and bots. I still come back to it to chill every now and then.

I personally think Gmod still has a ton of potential but people don't want to bother making things. Like for instance, there could be a deathmatch game mode that's pretty much a Smash Bros but for FPS characters, allowing server owners to make player spawns on spots they choose, and they would be able to make loadouts (that is tied to a player model) for players to choose from. So if a player wants to spawn with the Doom loadout, then they will have the same HUD, abilities and weapons as Doom 2016/Eternal. So that means the player will look like the Doom Slayer and have mechanics like dashing, fire and ice canons, the chainsaw, weapons attachments and so on. (There is already an addon that made all of Doom Eternal's mechanics). If they choose the Halo loadout then they change appearance to that of Master Chief and make him very tanky with his shield mechanic, same HUD, movement and weapons. Same thing if they choose Gordon Freeman who will spawn with the SMG, Shotgun, and be able to sprint, have energy for his suit and so on (This one should be the easiest to implement in Gmod for obvious reasons). Admins should also be able to place power weapons for whatever players that grabs it, will have a powerful gun from their respective game series. So if a Doom player grabs that pick-up, they get a BFG 5000. If HL1 Gordon Freeman grabs it, he gets the Gluon Gun or a Tau Cannon. If HL2 Gordon grabs it, he gets a rocket launcher or a super charged gravity gun. This and so many more FPS characters like Duke Nukem and Postal Guy could be added to the roster. The hardest thing would be the balance but scaling the damage can sort everything out. I'm sure people would love it. Overall people aren't making any genuinely interesting game modes. It's always been messing around in DarkRP or Sandbox which is just boring to me after a couple of hours.

I used to run a couple roleplay servers back in like 2011/2012 and played Dark RP regularly for maybe a total of a few years but in memory it all feels like I played for a decade. The friendships made and the moments I think about will always stick with me. I think the GTA RP thing was the closest gaming got to replicating the vibes, but the issue with online gaming right now is that everything is based on matchmaking, so it's hard to recapture this magic since most of us just stay in a discord with the people we already know. Dark RP on random servers was brilliant because you'd frequent the same servers and the same people and form bonds. I think s&box will replace the game pretty effectively considering how large the gmod playerbase still is and how fast word-of-mouth will spread to ditch gmod for s&box (on top of all the 20-somethings like us that will use s&box as the opportunity to come back).

While many games have taken and expanded Gmods various game modes, there is something so charming and more endearing then a lot of the tripple A games emulating said modes imo.

I mostly played on star wars RP but garrys mod is so fun just in general tho, and I met so many funny people and it was always entertaining.

i feel like gmod will actually never die tbh well fully at least, theres those of us that will still play it a lot, while it probably wont see any more upticks like its hay day was, its a possibility that gmod will see some modernizing since the game still recieves updates there could be a boom in its popularity again, hell dafuqboom uses source film maker which still has a massive userbase

I remember being like 7 and asking my dad to get me Garry's mod, I never knew what Steam or anything computer related was and neither did my dad, all I did was watch people play it and I wanted to do that. One day my dad got home and managed to get it set up on some crappy PC and I still haven't stopped playing that to this day. Garry's Mod literally introduced me to playing on a computer and I loved it.

as someone who owns gmod but barely plays it, this is an absolute win

I can happily state that overall, i have spent around 10,000 hours in Garry’s mod. Sadly it has almost entirely been in different TTT servers with random drops where I’d invest time collecting up and trading until i was in the top 1% of players. It was an amazing time

I miss playing stuff like Hidden, Minigame, Prison escape and Purge (NOT RP) on gmod. It was so much fun, back when all the youtubers were playing it, the player base was MASSIVE, there were so many game modes. Nowadays i get bored easily, its mostly just Tourble in TT, Prop hunt or Dark RP that are going strong.

In Murder, as a bystander you can collect glowing props around the map to get a gun so there's an extra layer to it.

90% of my Steam friends (which are 18 people) I met through Gmod, this includes people I know from real life (school or work) as well. The remaining 10% are from TF2. I never got into DarkRP because I never really got the hang of it but I got hundreds of hours on TTT and sandbox. I miss the fun sessions I had gaslighting people and manipulating them into killing eachother but now it's pretty much a dead game just like the friends I made who haven't been online in months/years. Not having the "Yes, I am the real Garry!" achievement still pisses me off.

Never played gmod as a kid but now I see what I missed

I started playing Gmod a REAL long time ago (2006) and honestly most if not all of the greatest/funniest gaming memories of my life happened on gmod. I miss playing GmSurvival, Space Build, DarkRp (before it was turned into paid script fest), Gm Tower, the list goes on... No game has even ever come close to fun. Joining a new Gmod server back in the day was like pulling a slot machine, you either found straight trash or a god tier server that would keep you playing for weeks/months. Hopefully S&Box can maintain the greatness that is/was Gmod at it's prime...

I used to play heaps on an old Deathrun server. It was the only decent one in OCE and it's community was great. It got shut down a while ago though and all the other deathrun servers are dead af

my 9yo nephew plays gmod almost everyday and he plays it with his sister, sucks i dont really enjoy it anymore but happy that its still around for him to play, we keep him off the multiplayer(don't think i need to explain why).
