Hey guys, sorry it took so long but here it is. This is a long one so break out the popcorn, your favorite drink and pull out the recliner. This was a multi day job that we were happy to help the customer with. Lots of welding and lots of torch cutting as you have already seen. Thanks again for the support and enjoy.

Watching you and CCE has encouraged me, long story short I’ve tried to have a custom trailer built for my gutter business for about seven months, put two deposits down and every manufacture or dealer keeps changing the design and price so I’ve gotten to the point where I said screw it. I’ll build it myself. Just ordered all in $5000 welder/two 330 tanks, 200amp spool gun, and I’m gonna learn how to weld to build it myself.

After a canopy frame was going to cost me 2500.00 I said heck with it. My awesome neighbor donated pipe. I was so surprised. I cut the pipe. Made a jig. Bought a bigger/better welder than I had before. Then started the welding. Took me a week. Cutting. Fitting. Tacking and finally the welding. I enjoyed the whole process. Standing up the frame and the final welding. My wife stood back and admired my work. I have an awesome canopy frame built by your truly.

@@2nickles647 seeing the crap coming out of Indiana and Georgia has helped me make my decision. I will learn how to properly weld also be helped and supervised by a friend of mine that’s been welding for over 30 years. Might take me a little longer than them to build, but I know it will be built Square and correctly no half ass welds, half ass bonded siding, half ass built doors, half ass painted frame. Half ass thin wood inside the trailer.

Just curious why you spent 4 grand on a welder when you don't know how to weld. You could have spent a quarter of that and got a welder to learn on and that would do the job just fine.
@gorillaman08zx
@gorillaman08zx 9 днів тому
@@Nick-ih5em because I don’t like cheap tools, have you ever heard the quote “ buy cheap tool cry every time you use it, buy quality tool cry once” like I said, I own a gutter business and I’ve been pretty good buying quality tools that last. $4000 now that I think about it it’s probably closer to $5000 for a multi processing pulse,TIG,stick and MIG, 200amp spool gun, and water cooled TIG unit awesome duty cycle with two 330 tanks isn’t crazy. When I set my mind to something I do it so I will learn how to weld. It’s not rocket science.

Your cautious approach to expose the interface edges is excellent in avoiding all of the pitfalls created by the original construction being different than that needed for the repair welds. The wisdom of experience over assumption. The fatigue failure at the broken end of the trunnion is due to the bending stresses at the weld. To avoid this problem the new trunnion would better being solid rather than tubular. But I guess they supplied a new tube to match the existing to save time instead of making an improvement.

I have been in heavy engineering all my working life, from Craft Apprentice to Chief Design Draftsman. I think that means that when I see another engineer, I know it. You, like me, seem to be a dying breed. I was called 'the best bodger on earth', fixing crap nobody else could at home. Not a very flattering term, but the more you think about it, the more it fits. I'd buy you a pint (English beer) any day. Take care.

Very nice repair (as per your usual). I think that machine is literally “tearing” itself apart (over a period of time, at least), that design with the 2 large & long cylinders, are putting a huge stress right on the pieces you replaced. Almost seems like those cylinders should be operating from the opposite direction (angle). But, I am just an “armchair” viewer, with my UKposts channel issued “engineering degree”…., hahaha..! Great video, Thank you sir.

I’ve been waiting for part 2 so thank you. Immaculate job. I’ve been hobby welding now for about 5 years mainly on car rust repairs, thin sheet and constantly blowing through. If I could run a weld 1/4 as good as that looks I’d be happy. I couldn’t work out how you would weld up the back side of the shaft. Lift the boom up. Sometimes the answer is so obvious. Very interesting and again thank you. Al from the U.K.

That’s the kind of job that causes the little, pencil-neck geeks that have never done anything remotely close to what you’re doing and have no clue but watch your every move from afar talk about how you must not know what you’re doing because it’s taking so long. And, if you’re really lucky, someone who’s in a position of authority ,who knows even less, will wait until you’re finished and tell you how you really milked the clock on that one and tell you about how some mythological weldor that only they know or have ever heard of could have easily done that job in two hours by himself without any help at all! At any rate, I digress; GREAT JOB Isaac.
