I heard stories of people using flour...but its not recommended the flour can make it worse because it itself is flammable and could supposedly explode much like water. The most reliable is the method stated here is to turn off the heat and put a lid on it to starve the flame. You can also use salt/baking soda if small or if using a lid is not working but the lid method is best, I was also told Sand was another good alternative if Salt/Baking soda is not available. If all else fails you could use a Fire extinguisher but it should be noted the Fire extinguisher has chemicals that cant be consumed so your area and cookware will need to be cleaned thoroughly to be used again after. I am like on one hand I know you shouldn't but I cant get mad at people because peoples respondent conditioning to Fire is WATER its because of the continual drilling of Water beats Fire. Creating this situation of why you see so many people use water on a grease fire its this lack of knowing between the types of fire and breaking that habit that really need to be done on a greater scale to avoid such situations.

I don't understand how people don't know what to do. If I think back to my childhood, my parents told me what to do, we learnt what to do in school, a fireman also came into school, and told us what to do, we learnt what to do at cubs, we went to fire station with cubs, and a fireman showed us exactly what would happen, if we didn't do what we were told to do, we learnt what to do at scouts. Learning what to do in this situation was a yearly part of my childhood, like learning about the water cycle or photosynthesis. How the fuck do you get to young adulthood, and not know what to do?

I've got a glass top stove, and I think it's awesome. Easy to clean as well, and the oven is self-cleaning so what's not to like. I also use it wisely, none of my cooking boils over onto the top so I guess that's why it works great for me

Keep hot glass on the stove top (after you take it out the oven) or on a completely dry wooden cutting board.

All glass will not explode on a stovetop, or when going from hot to cold. Read your glassware, it will say what you can and can not do with it on the bottom, and if it doesn't say it then don't do it. Also, don't put your head in plastic bags.

I was always super scared of it, now even more. But I have seen home cookers act like rockets too.. 😬

Can confirm, I've worked in animal processing and I know from experience how dangerous a sharp knife is- and how much more dangerous a dull knife is. I once watched a careless employee put a filet knife straight through the bicep of a coworker next to them completely on accident. Kitchens can be super dangerous.

Back in the '80s I was working in a kitchen in Southern California and it was Sunday brunch, me and another cook were using the Fryolater cooking batches of chicken when my co-worker slipped carrying a hotel pan of fried chicken, and as he fell his elbow hit the edge of the drip tray on deep fryer causing it tip over and pour the hot oil all over his body as he fell on the floor, and I mean it poured over him everywhere from his head down his whole body front back. It was absolutely unbelievable! Everyone was excited and panicking and not sure what to do, and the strange thing was the guy didn't scream or anything , he actually stood up and was completely silent, we learned from the paramedics that was because he was in shock. I remember as they were wheeling him out on the gurney there was skin falling off of his body from being burned so badly. I happened to run into the guy years later, and he had been pretty badly disfigured from the accident, real nice guy, I was really sorry to see that happen to him , I know he got a huge financial settlement out of it but still there's no way it was worth it with what he went through.

If I was working in a kitchen like that I would only be wearing clothes made entirely of cotton. My grandmother had some gnarly burns on her legs from a pot of hot tea spilling on her hosiery which promptly melted and fused with her skin. This is also why firefighters wear all cotton, cotton/nomex, aramid or other flame/heat resistant materials under the gear, you do not want your underwear fusing to your nethers if things get hot.
