A legend based on his positivity you jerk offs, you speak as if you are at a higher level than Monfils as a person, much less as a tennis player, the man is entertaining and the public love him because of that, unlike Novak who is so successful as a player, but so many dislike him for obvious reasons. The gsme between Carlos and Monfils, was very much liked by the crowd, despite not winning slams.

Alcaraz has all the ingredients that Nadal lacked: fun, entertainer mindset, joy on court, great touch, consistently good non-clay only serve and a superb backhand. The only thing(s) missing - the combative spirit of Nadal, huge rpm and arguably the crazy speed Nadal had as a teen (but then Alcaraz needs to run less). As an admirer of Nadal, I am so glad Alcaraz has inherited the crown.
@z1az285
@z1az285 Місяць тому
Alcaraz is every bit a fighter. he faced a lot of pressure at and after Wimbledon and its no easy task to beat Djokovic in a 5th set after losing the first 1-6, but the pressure got to him afterwards. i too am a rafa fan, but as Rafa himself said, carlos is far more complete a player in every way. believe it or not, carlos average rpm is higher though he hasn't hit the peak rpms rafa used to produce, but he is just as fast as young nadal and his defense is extraordinary even though rafa was better in that regard. in some ways, he has the same vulnerability rafa did in humid conditions and heavy balls when he can't hit through them but he is adjusting quite well. i believe once his serve placement improves he will be absolutely lethal (he can serve at 135-141 mph). he doesn't have the chronic foot and knee issues that rafa unfortunately did and i hope he stays fit and hungry for success. he is like rafa but he is not rafa. hard is his best surface, not clay though he has a lot of titles on it

The best serving I can recall from him, incredible ball-striking, impeccable control and accuracy, an almost perfect net game, and brilliantly designed sequences extremely well thought out. At this level, no player could beat him -- not even Novak or Sinner." Every word applies to the Monfils match as well. Other than a game off when he had two to spare, he was almost flawless.

In terms of tennis quality it seems Alcaraz might be the best of all times. I follow tennis since 1995 and the victory of Thomas Muster at French open and I never witnessed that ever. He has the most complete Total Tennis ever. The only thing he might not beat is Nadal dominance on clay, and of course he didn't much confront the Big 3. But I never imagined we would see a player that brings a new paradigm that soon (he has probably the best drop shots I ever seen, unless someone would bring another relevant example that I could forget).
@taopaille-paille4992
@taopaille-paille4992 Місяць тому
In the last few years, Djokovic has developed tremendous drop shots skills, but I would still rate Alcaraz drop shots skills a bit higher than Djokovic's. Another player I am thinking of that had excellent drop shots (but only on his very good days) was, if I remember correctly, Marcelo Ríos. But overall due to the (relative inconsistency of the player, although I think he managed to be number 1 of course for a few weeks and the videos I have seen from him, I still value Alcaraz drop shots quality as quite higher than Rios'). --- Would be happy to see the opinions of other peoples here on the best drop shots players in the players that they estimate. One could think of Benoit Paire also perhaps, but well we all know that Benoit Paire is quite inconsistent

Sigh . . . when I see Carlos play, I actually think of Monfils. I've long thought that Monfils was destined for grand slam greatness but it has never happened. His backhand has always been a bit of an issue but by and large, he had all of the tools: Ridiculous court speed, nice first serve, big forehand, creativity, etc. There are weaknesses like return of serve, net game and shot tolerance but I think the biggest issue has always been either his confidence in that he could actually win a slam or I've now come to wonder if he ever really aspired to win a huge title? I'm honestly not sure and I don't know if we will ever really find out but too often he will just hit crazy shots mid-rally that do nothing for him when it comes to winning the point. I honestly have seen more fight from him in the last couple of years but I wish we would have seen what he was truly capable of 15+ years ago after he won 3 junior grand slam titles. He was supposed to be the next big thing and it never really happened. Still a fantastic player, great entertainer and seemingly a wonderful person but I just wish he had a more competitive nature.
@user-oi4ti6wv5i
@user-oi4ti6wv5i Місяць тому
He makes too many mistakes, he doesn't set up points well, his return game is poor, and his second serve is also poor. He would have to be playing 100% during the entirety of a GS, which he isn't able to do.

@johnpaul3362 Місяць тому
Spot on. He seems like he doesn't care much
@the-traveling-lens
@the-traveling-lens Місяць тому
@@user-oi4ti6wv5i I agree with all of that but I think all of those weaknesses would have been fixable or at least improved enough to keep from being a hindrance. He could have worked until that second serve was better or developed a great kick serve. Same for the return game, net game, etc. Even the greats worked hard to continue developing their game. Nadal's serve and backhand are light years better than they were when he won his first RG. His slice used to just sit up and that improved drastically years ago. But Monfils just seems to play like he did when he entered the tour. He has maybe a little more grit and determination, but I feel it's because his career is on the back end as well so fighting a little harder is natural. The problem is that he's not in his early to mid-twenties anymore.
@the-traveling-lens
@the-traveling-lens Місяць тому
@@johnpaul3362 Yeah, not enough earlier in his career when it really would have mattered. I think he cares more now but he lacks the steely resolve and discipline that Fed, Djoker, Nadal, etc. have/had throughout their careers. He never lacked the talent, just the desire to dedicate himself to the craft and really squeeze out every drop of talent. It's a shame. David Ferrer was somewhat the opposite. His gifts were moderate ( I don't mean that in a bad way) but he never had a huge weapon. His mental toughness, fitness, and sheer, exhaustive hard work got him to where he was. He's easily one of the best players never to win a grand slam and it's a testament to his dedication and resilience. If more tennis players dedicated themselves to doing what Ferrer did, for some, the sky would be the limit.

This is the difference between Alcaraz and Iga. Carlos knows the value of entertaining fans who buy tickets. He could have bageled Monfils but he also has a kind heart and allowed Gael to have a bit of fun by sending the ball back instead of just getting the win right away. But i do admire Iga for her focus on winning. It’s just not as entertaining and doesnt bring warm and fuzzy smiles to my heart

Almost true. He started his pro career one year before Alcaraz was born. Amazing.

Quoiqu'il arrive Monfils sourit. Heureux de vivre un moment hors du commun. Heureux de jouer contre Alcaraz. 💫
