Not only did I forget this movie existed, I forgot I had already watched it.

The other day my wife said “why haven’t they made an Independence Day 2?”. I told her “they did, and we saw it in theaters, together, on opening night”. She had literally blocked that hot garbage out of her memory. I wish I could do the same.

My husband and I take turns picking movies we want to see together. He really wanted to see this, so we went to watch it. After leaving the theater he was like "I'm so sorry, you can pick the next two movies". True story

I love the idea that they think the only thing you need to do to make the move from stripper to doctor is just decide to make a career change. Lol

My 12 year old girl sat down with me and watched “Independence Day” one Saturday and enjoyed it. At the end, she asked me if there was a sequel and I said, “No, sorry honey.” One day she’ll find out that I lied, but she’ll forgive me.

I saw this in the theater with my husband, we both loved the original. Halfway through I went to the restroom just to google the runtime to see how much longer I had to sit through.

Saw the first movie, but didn't realize there was a sequel. Can anyone tell me: Have the invading aliens managed to update their anti-virus software since the first movie? They were previously defeated by a geek with an old Mac laptop and a floppy disk.

I heard someone make a great point about this film before. The African warlord guy talks about the struggle to fight all the stranded aliens in a conflict that lasted for years after the events of the first film. I want to see THAT film. Machetes vs Lasers. Make it happen.

"This whole thing is just included to create the idea that there's some kind of clever mystery plot going on with this movie, when in actual fact, it's just dumb as F*ck." Got the involuntary laugh even on the replay. Love this guy.

Independence Day was admittedly fun and dumb, but Resurgence was just plain dumb and kept dragging on forever.

The Tatianna lore is so deep at this point that she could be a guest on the channel.

This channel needs a science channel. I’d watch the Drinker talk science all day long.

So sad, there could've been so much to tell (considering the sequel *had* to be made) : about the immediate aftermath of the victory. The chase for the surviving aliens, exploring the space ship wreckages, the buildup to the nicer world...

I went and saw Independence Day multiple times in the theaters. I still get chills from that speech haha

If your alien civilization has the ability to travel between stars and do so in only a matter of years, you by necessity also have the energy needed to fry the Earth's surface, either with a big laser or some kind of relativistic kinetic weapon (in fact, they could literally just dump their garbage in the Earth's direction while flying past it at near light speed and it would have the same effect as setting off all of Earth's nuclear arsenal simultaneously, except without the radioactive fallout). If all the aliens wanted was the Earth's core, there was no reason they had to invade when they could have simply sterilized the Earth from space, then they could just scoop out the core at their leisure without any resistance.

I know it started earlier, but this is the movie that cemented in my mind...that Hollywood can no longer make memorable great pictures.

I must admit the only reason ''Independance day'' the original one, stuck in my mind. Is because I had taken magic mushrooms before entering the theater. I still remember the giants U.F.O's crashing down the front seats in the theater at the end of the movie. Good times.

I like how the Aliens have extra slow lasers that appear to travel at less than 1% the speed of light.

My favorite part of independence day is that everyone treats randy quaid like hes crazy for saying he was abducted by aliens. Then aliens attack the planet and thet still treat him like hes crazy.

Yea, these aliens, by far, deserved to die because they didn't have antivirus software. They could traverse the universe, have a deep mathematical knowledge of the gravitational equations that govern the universe, could fold space, but because they didn't have Norton 360... they meet their demise.

The physics of a Roland Emmerich movie are always insane. It's almost like he's pandering to an crowd of toddlers who still are memorized by the stolen nose trick. Moonfall was the funniest thing ever, the man really turned a moon into a predatory beast that was selectively sucking up random objects with no foundation into the physics of it. Selective gravity is the shit 🤣

The thing that always killed me about this movie was that the premise of it as presented in the trailers was actually intriguing and made sense. It has taken humanity decades to sort through the wreckage of these massive alien ships that they shot down (makes enough sense to me). And after years of sorting through alien technology and trying to figure out what it all is, they stumble upon an active beacon (makes enough sense to me). Naturally, they call David to investigate given that he brought down the aliens the first time and understands them better than anyone (makes enough sense to me). David analyzes the beacon and discovers that it’s sending an interstellar signal to the alien home world, and they’re about to be invaded again by an even bigger force (makes enough sense to me). That is a cool setup for a sequel. It had a chance to be good. They just horrendously botched the execution of it.

My favorite part from the original was the scene where they are asking for pilots. When Randy Quaid relates his story about being kidnapped by aliens and everyone rolls their eyes, as if there is no alien invasion happening right in front of their eyes.

I'm not an actual physicist, I am merely an engineer.... but yes, you are 100% correct about what that much off center mass would do to Earth. It would in fact pull the whole planet into an egg shape, thus causing earth shattering quakes (as the tectonic plates literally shattered), leveling everything on that side of the planet (except directly under it, but that area certainly wouldn't get off light either). So yes,: One side would immediately turn into a volcanic hell scape with above hurricane winds and ridiculous tsunamis, and the other side would be exposed to [almost] the vacuum of space.... All in all, not a good day for Earthlings.

One of the things that bothered me about this remake was the first movie had an almost “tongue in cheek“ script with larger than life characters and loving homage paid to prior science-fiction films with lines and scenes taken from the 1953 version of war of the worlds, ideas, and scenes from Aliens and the amazing special effects done in the first movie with miniatures and pyrotechnics still look better than most of the CGI effects that we are bombarded with constantly nowadays. Also, I was wondering can Tatiana fire a handgun like that? Just asking

Most people don’t get ID2. It’s the middle movie in a trilogy. If you watch it again you will see it introduces a new alien species and ends with a plan to take the fight to the enemy. I would love to see an ID3.

I found the first movie totally unbelievable, a super advanced alien race destroyed by a computer virus.

I love how the Drinker implied Will Smith declined the role because he doesn't do turds nowadays.

You have to think, when they wrote the script for this, someone honestly wrote in "The Queen chases a school bus at the end", and then stepped back, looked at what they had written, and said to themselves: "Yeah, that's good. Everyone will like that; it's not dumb at all."

I still remember when I first saw the trailer for this movie, that first line that said, "We always knew they'd be back". And like that they lost me, because they couldn't even get out the gate without massively retconning the original film. So glad I skipped out on this mess.

What's actually sad is that there are little ideas that could have been cool in a smarter movie, like Earthlings waking up and drawing the same image as each other, or a ruined world rebuilt better than ever by incorporating salvaged technology from the aliens that tried to wipe you out.. Too bad these were wasted in a movie where the other 97% is so incredibly stupid

Rule of thumb: If a Classic movie from 20+ years ago gets a sequel, it’s going to have the dumbest decisions ever.

This came out when I was working at a movie theater, we could see movies there for free and I wanted to see everything that came out so that I could help inform customers about them. I saw this movie for free and still wanted my money back.

I love how the the alien shields can resist a nuke in the first film, a nuke in the second film, but when the plot requires it, the queens shield gets destroyed by some aircraft guns.

I saw this in the theater and walked away with the same feeling....not being able to process what I just saw.

The wife of Will Smith (in this history) said on the first movie that she wanted to study medicine so she went on the strip for making money. Well, that work out. One of the few things that this movie is ok, the background of this character. Good for them.

No joke, they brought on Christopher Weaver, the founder of Bethesda Softworks, as their computer consultant for Independence Day. I doubt they took much of his input for the film, but supposedly Jeff Goldblum's character is inspired by Chris. And perhaps that explains a lot about Bethesda's err... History with broken technology.

The boob jiggle is called “animation deformity”. It’s when you have a breast implant placed under the muscle, and it moves any time the pectoralis is contracted. It’s an undesirable outcome for breast augmentation, and I’m surprised they’d allow that to make it into the movie

sometimes, i swear, all you need to hear to understand what the drinker thinks is to hear how he says "Go away now." he just packs so much emotion into it when he's sad, or angry, or tired, even contentment fits into the phrase sometimes.

Honestly if I can give this movie credit for one thing, it's that they reverse-engineered the alien technology. Seriously, I can't think of any other sci-fi movies where after blowing up the Big Alien Bad, people actually picked up the debris and said "Hey, let's use this shit."

The aliens have tech involving energy weapons, energy shields, and space/ fold abilities. And, the ability to harvest a molten core from a planet. Why do they still use a regular drill?

My sons are 6 and 8, and I showed them Pacific rim 2 and this movie. They both said these movies are stupid and asked to watch Aliens. Love my boys.

The best quote for movies like this is from Yoda where he talks about looking to the future rather than focusing on his current task. "Never his mind on where he was. What he was doing!" That's what these cinematic universe people don't get. They're so concerned with what they will build from this that they don't focus on making the foundation firm.

Actually Winston Churchill planned to be onboard HMS Belfast at the D Day landings against the advice of his staff and General Eisenhower. Eventually they got King George VI to tell him that if he did then he was going to be on HMS Belfast too. Churchill reluctantly agreed not to go rather than risk the King.

For twenty years they knew there was a fully intact city sized alien ship in Africa but because of some warlord saying you can't enter my country ...they stayed away from investigating the ship's technology and strategic value (like learning alien troop locations, their troop strength, biological weaknesses, locations of their military adversaries and such. They knew the Aliens were coming back yet they never exploited the ship's value? They had the technology to come in and take the ship...just fly in and secure the area....yet because of a machete wielding warlord they did nothing. This is the plot line which seems particularly stupid to me. Given that stupid plot-line...why Didn't Emmerich make the film about our hero's seizing the ship, taking it off world, making alien allies and kicking the crap out of the aliens that destroyed much of the Earth. He could have had co-oped Alien prisoners who didn't like what they were doing to alien worlds help them fly the ship. He could have made it a film about allies destroying unconditionally the Nazi alien menace. It would have been light years ahead of what we got. It would have made a great space opera with multiple pictures to come...But no.....
