The maxim is still extremely effective and if you were to try to purchase one it would probably cost you $30,000. As long as it's in a fixed position it's just as good as anything and the US still uses machine guns based on German world war II designs. The AK-47s also based on German WWII design.

Once this war ends Ukraine will be a failed state. The Cold War is over and America doesn’t need to prove capitalism is better, they won’t implement a Marshall Plan such as post WW2 Europe. Ukraine will recover a tiny bit, but with demographic collapse from low birth rates, war (killing of youth) and refugees (longer war goes on, less will come back), Ukraine is finished. By 2050, I’m sure it’ll be a small country with maybe 20-something million people, an ageing population and basically a large version of Moldova or something? Ukraines only hope for prosperity is if it joins Russia and Belarus to create a greater Slavic Union, reminiscent of Kievan Rus of old. Combined, they would have almost 200 million population, and would be the largest country in the world. They will be stronger economically and can use that to rebuild, to implement pro-child policies to raise the birth rate, and otherwise advance the federation.
