Sheared my crank in two due to incorrect routing on a Jamis Nemesis. Expensive way to learn more details about internal routing.

That is one ridiculous design ! Typical Cannondale! Why the trouble of running an internal through the chainstay if the cable length along the down tube is exposed? If anything, do it the other way or just good old simple external.

Had to take the square taper bottom bracket out of a Cannondale synapse mechanical disc. To replace the inner cable for the brake. Was the only way. 😡

Had to remove bottom bracket to replace the inner cable on a mechanical disc brake on a Cannondale synapse. Full outer from end to end the Went under bottom bracket. Totally a nightmare to do. Only a square taper bottom bracket.

Thank you for this video. I've just realized that I've made my internal routing in the wrong way. Hopefully, I didn't ride in this season jet.

I’m not really a fan of internal routing. the ease of external outweighs the few watts saved. Looks good tho

Internal cable routing is nothing but a huge faff and all you get is like 5 watts saved in a wind tunnel in Switzerland at 40 km/h. Same story with any form of press fit bottom brackets - massive pain in the ass for a minor gain that perhaps sprinters such as Sagan, Cavendish or Kittel might benefit from. Ease of maintenance should always come in front of tiny performance gains for anyone who is not a pro racer and not with a team of mechanics behind them.

You haven't read my entire comment, have you? "Ease of maintenance should always come in front of tiny performance gains for anyone who is not a pro racer and not with a team of mechanics behind them." Are you racing? No? Then all those tiny watt savings at speeds you won't be riding at too much anyway are not worth the pain in the ass. Yes? Then by all means, go for whatever makes you faster, because your results are more important than anything else. And guess what: the large majority of road bike users don't race. And you won't be winning any races on a bike with Tiagra and no-name wheels just because you have internal cable routing.

It takes way more time, especially if you want to install it correctly (as @SickBiker demonstrates in this video), it may cause more cable-housing friction and it also takes way more time to replace the cables (and housings). Moreover, in many cases internally routed cable cause a lot of rattling noises (depending on the frame and also the measure taken when installing them). Last, but not least, frames with internal routing cost more simply because they have internal routing. To be honest, internal routing is the source of many problems that Di2 / eTap solves very nicely, but that shouldn't have existed at all in first place. Same happened with Shimano STI levers when they decided to move the shifter cables under the hood. Ultegra 6600 levers had very good shifting, then 6700 were rubbish compared to them and 6800 were as good as. It's only the R8000 levers that actually have a better feel than the old 6600 ones.

I am huge fan of the external cables too! The Press Fit is much lighter though and on a quality frame makes no problems.
@11robotics

@@cannondany most Press Fit frames I've seen around were creaking like crazy from the BB area. In some cases it's because of poor manufacturing tolerances, in other cases because of improper installation of the BB. In some cases it can be solved, in others you're doomed for life. But none of this happens with the good ol' threaded BB. But I admit, with press fit BB, that also allow you to install cranksets with oversized aluminium spindles, you do easily save a couple hundred grams. As long as you can do it and stay noise-free, then why not. But from what I've seen so far, it's very very rare to have a Press Fit bottom bracket than doesn't end up creaking like crazy.

@Cere EE I love that BBR60 bottom bracket too, over 12.000 km on it and it works as nicely as when it was brand new. By far the best BB I've ever had. And at 77 grams it's not that heavy either.
