Warning: This is mostly a rant, ignore if that bothers you. Based on the limited information that I got from this (put bluntly): In other words, A Linux based distribution that collects data (to sell to company's and the government), that you can program for on visual studio only (forcing programmers to use very slow and inefficient software inside windows 10, an already data collection hell hole, and software that Microsoft pretty much says "I own your company, and there is nothing you can do about it. If you disagree, then ruin your school life, and career so that you do not touch any Microsoft product because the average person is not willing to switch to other alternative software because the alternative software is either mostly or partly incompatible."). Also, Microsoft is trying to do what apple does with their mac-books, and what Google did with the chrome-book, making their software completely locked to the hardware so that people are forced to buy the hardware, and the software included inside. The computer itself may be secure, but since people are only able to use it through the Microsoft cloud, it means absolutely nothing. I fail to see any benefit that outweighs the disadvantages.

Well I, for one, welcome our new Microsoft overlords! But in all seriousness, this sounds like a great idea. If a device would benefit from being cloud connected (a big "if"!), it will need infrastructure for updates, trusted communication, computing and storage. Linux is already highly customizable and can be quickly configured and compiled for connected microcontrollers, which is not something Windows was designed for, even though Windows has become much more modular recently. Also, this isn't a desktop or server operating system, so it's not an attempt to destroy competitors. While there may be embracing, there's no extending and extinguishing going on. Microsoft can't afford to jeopardize the future of Linux, which is successful today largely because of corporate contributions. They make a ton of money from supporting it with their Azure cloud service. It's worth noting that the fifth largest corporate contributor to Linux 3.0 was Microsoft, to support their own Hyper-V virtualization hypervisor drivers, and everything turned out okay. And even if we can't trust Microsoft, they're the only ones stepping up and offering a secured IOT cloud service like this. If a company that everyone doesn't love to hate gets in the game, people can go with them. At least someone is trying to defend our increasingly connected world against total chaos. I wont support embedded cloud systems of any sort. If you don't like it, don't support it. Why doesn't windows swing the door and go to an open source foundation instead? WAY too much bloat in the main OS; the intrusiveness of the OS is EXACTLY why people abandon the product. Don't be foolish.
