My iPhone 12 was aging perfectly, until a friend revealed what I'm missing out on (lol). This is exactly the upgrade path I was waiting for with the 15 Pro Max: usable dead space (the notch), insane optics for landscape photography and a speaker that blows me away.

I'm still rocking my 12 Pro Max today, i just can't justify getting rid of it until something truly changes that is worth the upgrade. I'm in a studio all day with top notch of everything sound and visual, so it doesn't bother me that my 12 isn't up to snuff with the new phones. I know it's faster and brighter, but that's fine by me. I"ll wait

@@James__Smithwhile 120hz is a good feature. It's more of a gimmick. Media consumption you barely use more than 60hz refresh rate. Maybe for some games where you can do 90hz but 60hz for mobile games are fine. Console games and pc games are 60 hz as well. Lol. The only advantage of having a 120hz is thru scrolling. Besides iphone 12 pro deserves the "pro" name. Tell me an android phone released at the same time still updated to the latest version? None right.
@gordlord6738
@gordlord6738 4 місяці тому
@@James__Smith im currently using iphone 15 pro max. But I sometimes borrow my wife's iphone 11 pro max. I see the difference in scrolling other than that. UKposts netflix and almost everything works fine on a 60hz. And if you're gaming on a console and pc maxing the refresh rate so we can cancel mobile gaming in the equation. Like I said it's a gimmick more than anything.

I upgraded from a iPhone 7 Plus to a iPhone 14 Pro Max last year, the jump was huge, I had the 7 Plus from when it came out and its battery showed 76% health. It really was worse for wear. I tend to keep my phones a minimum of 5 years, before my iPhone 7 Plus I had an iPhone 5

Great review and reasoning! I use to upgrade annually when I used Android, which I did from about 2012 until the iPhone 12 came out. I had a 12 Pro Max and then got a 14 Pro Max primarily for the Dynamic Island which I personally love. My battery is still 100% on my 14 Pro Max, I work from home as well, so who knows when I'll upgrade. One of my sons is using my older 12 Pro Max so we will probably upgrade him this year with the 15 so you review is very helpful!

Using the Fold 3 for 2.5 years now. Its really brilliant. Had no build issues, updates have made it better, we got the stylus to sign documents. Never thought I would buy into the foldables but this has changed how I approach a mobile device but one big problem is that I have really bad self control so I am getting a bit addicted to it now. So planning to downscale to the S24 or the S23 if they put a exynos in the S24. I will miss the big screen but would be nice to have lesser screen time.

I am a life-long android user (post Nokia-era, of course) and for the past 3 & half years have been rocking a OnePlus 8 Pro. The experience has been pretty solid, largely due to the fact that I could install a Pixel like Custom ROM, without rooting the device and retain full usability. It wasn't until the November update that google tightened security, causing Contactless payment to stop working, which prompted the switch over to the dark side - 15 Pro Max. It's only been 3 days, but I can say that both OS have matured quite well and the transition wasn't as jarring. I was lucky enough to take an unexpected trip through NSW and realised how effortless the whole camera system is, the smoothest experience thus far. If you have been wondering about switching over and feel like you might be betraying your ethos, remember "Nothing endures but Change" - Heraclitis.

For me, my daily driver is the Samsung S21 Ultra, max spec. I've had it since day 1, and it's still going strong. Battery life isn't an issue, especially when running additional apps like dynamicSpot, KWGT, in the background. I can easily use this for another year, but I wanna keep this phone purely for the cameras. No signs of wear, still looks brand new, especially with the recent One UI 6/Android 14 update.

Just upgraded from the Pixel 2XL to the Pixel 8. So far loving it I take a lot of pics so the camera is a huge jump and the 120hz makes my 60hz pixel feel slow navigating. The main reason for the upgrade is that my Pixel 2xl Battery was only 72% and could no longer get me throw the full day. I have tried the magic eraser feature and for quick dirty edits its fine but not as good as Photoshop. My only knock so far on the P8 is the battery life isn't up to par but apparently there is a dynamic battery tool that helps with that over time.

I too waited to replace my iphone 12, I don't play any games on it, ever, and this year I wanted to go for the 15 pro but just because of 144hz I saw no real advantage to get the 15 pro over the 15.The bigger 6.7" is just not comfy at all and one hand usage is very important to me.

For a successful UKpostsr like yourself, it probably is very easy to upgrade - and still you waited 3 generations. That is the kind of honesty to the product that I really like. This is exactly what I call a review / upgrade, not some video where the user probably only used some phone for 7 days.

bought my wife a 15 Pro as an upgrade from the 12 Pro - usb-C is a giant plus since I'm firmly in Pixel land now we only need 1 type of cable, battery life on the 12 Pro after 3 yrs + of usage is really bad, and yes we both noticed how the island is much smaller in size vs. the notch. given how incremental the 14 series was, the 15 is definitely a good jump from the 12 and earlier series.

My Samsung Galaxy S9+ is still an incredible device. I've had it since early 2018 and nothing about it has made me desire a new device. I've had a lot of dropped calls recently, but it seems to be a carrier issue. I've had no issues with screen breakage, charging port problems, slowdowns, battery life, storage shortage, etc. As a developer, I recognize that most problems stem from poor implementation from the app-side. My only gripe is that the device is stuck on Android 10, but the OS still offers more than I need. Comparing it to the iPhone 15, I'd be stupid to lay down that kind of cash for a similar, albeit restricted experience.

Currently back on my old Pixel 4 XL after I dropped my S22 Ultra one too many times and broke the display in the corner (curse those curved edges). It's honestly smoother 95% of the time than the Samsung before the One UI 6 update, although now I have it locked to 60Hz because the battery is just alright. The camera is definitely super limited because I take tons of photos and loved the 10x telephoto on the Galaxy, but overall in good lighting photos look just fine. Same goes for performance; it bogs down occasionally and 6GB of RAM is super limiting but outside of a few fringe cases it still feels snappy. I just wish it wasn't out of software support since it's running this well 4 years later.

I've had a Samsung S10e for 4 years, bought in 2019 when it came out and was still going really good even tho it only had android 12 etc (which I don't really care since it works good), camera was good sometimes (cause sometimes it didn't focus well because of a fall, my bad) and the only reason that made me buy a new phone was that after the last and fatal fall, the lower part of the screen decided to become the brightest light it could be (brighter than a white screen at max brightness) so it wasn't so great to use anymore. I wanted to fix it and hold it another year, but I needed to replace back and front glasses and the display for a little patch of dead pixels also caused by a fall. Shortly, it was a great phone, fantastic ergonomics thanks to its dimensions, very resistent and snappy (even if it was EU version with exynos). Now I have an S23 but it just feels heavy and big, I wanted a compact phone but sadly it's not that compact with a cover on, but it works great and hope to keep it another 4+ years!

I will probably go for the iPhone 15 next year if nothing too radical comes from the iPhone 16. Otherwise I may go back to Android and pick up a Pixel 8/8A, but it's really hard for me to switch because I am accustomed to working with it's snappy camera, it 'just works', and the longevity of the hardware+software. I do not know if I would get 4 years of use from a Pixel/Galaxy, but it can be an experiment.

Here is some advice to you. If you want to try a new Android phone, look for year old samsung flagships. You can find good ones for cheap. They perform well but depreciate fast in price. Why? I'm sure there's lots of reasons. Either way, the phones become cheap fast, so you can get something relatively modern and just try it out. Maybe go to the store and see if the feeling of using one is even worth it to you.

Been using a oneplus 8t for the past 3 years. Battery life is still excellent, plus with the crazy quick charge if I plug it in at 35% its at 85% in like 15 minutes. Still feels snappy, espcially with the 120hz screen, and the camera has taken some awfully pretty pictures

Was still using a Pixel 6, but the overheating became such an issue for me that I had to get a new phone. Ended up with a 15 Pro Max. Only regret is not getting a high capacity disk.

I just got the 1TB version. As soon as I walked out of the store I started having buyer’s remorse (it’s a lot of extra money!), but I never have to think about storage space ever again. And if you’re into recording ProRes log like me, you don’t need to bother with an external drive.

I have been using a Samsung Galaxy A71 since early 2020. Almost 4 years and its held up very well. Still fast enough but battery has slowly degraded, and the camera overheats when recording 4k 30fps video or taking pictures outside. Add in Google Maps navigation and the phone is a hot potato. Probably upgrade next year to either a iPhone 15 pro (for a small phone) or a s24 ultra (for the camera, better performance with no overheating, larger battery and additional features like wireless charging and water resistance).

Dreams die in your comfort zone. Humans naturally gravitate towards comfort (that's why all the marketing is centered around it), but only if you don't bother understanding how bad it is would you make a statement of "it should be comfortable". Comfort is death.

Three minor corrections: The default behavior of the action button is not do not disturb or focus modes, but the ringer switch It’s not on screen time, but screen-on time The camera does indeed put out 24mp photos, but the sensor itself is a 48mp one

Very glad to hear another PC enthusiast explain exactly why I use an iPhone. Somewhere around my 2nd or 3rd iPhone it became invisible and I never thought about how my phone worked again.

The invisible thing is so true. We already have to deal with Windows crashes and hardware troubleshooting... cars leaking and roof replacement etc lol I want the phone to be as convenient as possible. -D.

Honestly wait three years for an upgrade is definitely a wise choice. I used my 8 plus for 3 years before I finally upgrade to the 13 pro max because of a storage issues 😅 if my 8 plus has the same 1TB capacity I think I wouldn’t consider to upgrade and will definitely still use my fully working iPhone 8 Plus.

I have a base S22 256gb since launch, I see no need to upgrade for the foreseeable future. I just got UI 6 and Samsung has been surprisingly good with software updates and other than the battery life being mid (non issue for me) everything holds up very well (camera, software stability and speed etc.)

I have a 12 too and tried the 15 Pro Max in an Applestore on Saturday. I got big hands but I can’t imagine switching to such a big phone. However I watch videos on my phone on a regular basis and I‘d love more battery life. Can you tell a little bit more about going to a bigger phone? Where did you have to adjust specificaly while using it compared to the iPhone 12?
@HardwareCanucks
@HardwareCanucks 4 місяці тому
Ha, my exact question to everyone who owns a Max before I bought mine. For videos it’s awesome, larger screen is great 👍 for handing, you’ll need two hands always. Especially if you put a case on it. But I always use two hands when typing, so extra width is perfect and more comfy than the 12. The weight difference is there too, but two weeks after I switched, the 15PM felt at home. I knew I’d use the 5x more than the 3x on regular Pro, so I embraced the change and no regrets at all. Also, if your pockets are small, you’ll have a problem with the Max. -D.

Ar rhe beginning of 2023 i switched fromcthe 13 pro max to the google pixel 7 pro. I loved it initially for the first several months. Getting people used to me not beinf on imessage and such took a bit of time. Although after updates i noticed the battery usage became very inconsistent, wnd i started having to use my phone for woek driving everyday so i needed reliable performance. I then paid extra to "upgrade" after about 6 months and switch to rhe Galaxy S23 Ultra since everyone raved about the fantastic performance and battery life no matter what. It worked fantastic for a long time and the battery life was crazy. I could reliably get over 5 hours of screen on tome plus a couple hours of background usage wirh android auto and still not have to charge until the next morning or afternoon. That was until the OneUI 6 update. Now for thr last month my phone will freeze ranfomly when im trying to navigate or uae different apps. Android auto connection breaks randomly. I have rest the phone now multiple times with no improvement so I'm heavily considering switching back to iPhone and getting the pro Max. I really liked iPhone, yes it technically has less featuess and customizability than rhe galaxy s23 ultra but I need a more stable phone.

Been rocking my Samsung S21 (base& 256gb) since 2021 and despite a few software issues which were mostly solved with Android 14 (ONE UI6), my only criticism is the battery could be better for such a power hungry flagship phone.. I plan on replacing the battery next year and keeping the phone until it becomes obsolete!

On my redmi note 9 pro, Will likely upgrade to the redmi note 13 pro +, since the updates have stopped for note 9 and I find the lack of NFC on it a bit of a concern from time to time. So that's my consideration, the other option seems to be the motorola edge 40 neo. Will see which fits in and turns out to be the best suited out of these two based on the price as well. 13 launches on Jan.

Apple did me sooo dirty back in the "intentional slow down" days of the iPhone 6. It's cool to see that you can actually hold on to one for 2+ years now. I'll still never go back tho, I hold grudges like a mfer lol ☠️

Still rocking my k20 pro aka Mi9t pro , i just love the notchless display and how light & thin this phone is. i'm generally very clumsy and have dropped it several times but even then it took 3 years to crack the back glass. Surprisingly no lags or major slowdowns except when i transfer large files . If this got longer software support it would have been great but then again miui doesn't implement many features from general Android updates and they do their own stuff. I never experienced any ads like most people do on Xiaomi phones but still follwed necessary steps as precaution. Too bad there'll probably never be a phone like this at this price of 300 USD or any price for that matter of value for money.

I’ve been thinking abt upgrading to the 15 pro max (currently on the 14 pro) mainly for the usbc and battery life increase. I work mostly from my desk and whenever I’m not in front of my pc I’m on the phone. Thankfully my mom was thinking abt upgrading it for me, so might be saving that extra $1300

Cool mom. I'm thinking of jumping from my s22 ultra to the 15 pro or pro max. I love Samsung, but I'm bored. Which is funny, because the s23 ultra finally brought iphone level battery life to Samsung phones and the animations and fluidity of the device finally comes super close to iphone. Too bad though, I just got a macbook air m1 and I'm impressed, so I'm willing to give the iphone a shot now.
