14:14...I'm glad Eddie brought that up. He got that show created SIMPLY to help Redd Foxx in his financial troubles with the IRS. Literally used his power to get one of his idols out of debt. And it was a hit until Redd passed away on the set. NO ONE mentions that element of Eddie's legacy: He put on some of the biggest black comedians on planet Earth. Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, and Dave Chappelle all got bumps in their careers from appearances in his movies (Rock and Lawrence in Boomerang, Chappelle in The Nutty Professor). Then had Bernie Mac, Anthony Anderson, and Guy Torry in Life. He never had any hesitation about leaving a path for other black people to follow. And honestly, not just comedians. Everyone remembers Samuel L. Jackson's cameo in Coming To America.

Often times winning an Oscar has been a detriment. You would expect it would bring them a ton of job offers, but not so much. It’s like American Idol. The runners up do just as well if not better than the winner. The winners don’t always make it. Sometimes just getting a nomination gives them enough recognition or notoriety. The winner is an actors’ actor, not who the movie goers like. Remember when Chariots of Fire was the big thing at the Oscars 😮but many of us didn’t like it. So many times we think the Academy didn’t get it right. Case in point: Jamie Lee Curtis. I was upset when Angela Bassett, a MUCH better actress, didn’t get Best Supporting Actress. She can act circles around Jamie! Another one the Academy got wrong.

We were invited to a lot of premiers and comedy clubs. I even got to be around Dan Akroyd for a couple days. And that guy is truly down to earth and super friendly to everyone he talks to. Just salt of the earth guy. And with him I was also pretty star struck. But he was so friendly he could make you forget how famous he was. The night I got to meet Pryor we actually saw Jay Leno perform at the Hollywood Improv (back when his hair was mostly black). We were leaving the club because we did have a curfew at 10PM and as we were leaving Richard Pryor walked in, I was stunned.. legit. I really was a huge fan of his since I was a little girl. So to see him I really was in awe. And I mean I had met enough celebs by then that I realized they are just people and I got over being star struck with most I met. Not Pryor. I came up towards the front door as we were leaving and he was coming in. People were coming up and talking to him so I stood quietly waiting behind him. That's when he turned and stepped on me. And I babbled like a fool. Never did that with any other star I met... just Pryor. It was like meeting a King.

@AceClo/Yes! Eddie is 100% GENUINE and Jerry is VERY insightful. There have been a dozen or so "legends" in stand-up. I suppose a dozen might be accurate. Eddie just has so much composure. Seinfeld has an incredible work ethic and comedy is in ever fiber of his being. I loved Eddie Murphy Raw. Some of the best material ever. The intro into "RAW" still makes chills run up my spine. Good interview questions answered by THE BEST STAND-UPS EVER. I also like that Jerry is enormously respectful to Eddie. I like that Eddie NEVER comprises his honesty. He's never ever superficial in interviews. That discussion where they laugh about the heckler that said "You 'ain't nobody" is very funny. A nice tribute to Flip Wilson. Speaking of the older guys, Red Foxx was hilarious on Sanford & Son. Playing that grumpy, pull no punches, sarcastic junk yard owner. Now that was comedy. Back when there were few stand-ups in the 70's. Yet, it was about that time that Steve Martin in "A wild and crazy guy" made its debut. And, Richard Pryor was a huge draw everywhere. Carlin too with his outrageous outlooks on various topics. Anyway. Yes, Eddie Murphy. NOBODY MAKES ME LAUGH HARDER. It seems to me that NOONE "kills it" every single night. But, Eddie Murphy does so well. He gives the audiences "a slam dunk" every time. Maybe I'm biased. However as a 61 yr. old male, white American, Jerry Seinfeld makes me appreciate just how easy stand-up looks when it's actually very difficult to get to the top. In other interviews, Seinfeld discusses some of the nuances in connecting with various audiences and how no matter how good you are, there are nights that as a performer that your best just isn't there. Jerry talks about "getting to that place" where a connection is made. Because that connection ISN'T ABOUT YOU. IT'S ALL ABOUT MAKING VARIOUS AUDIENCES LAUGH, AT ALL COSTS. Yet, Seinfeld works with almost no foul language and I like that. A lot. For example, Sam Kinison wasn't funny. He was crude. Lenny Bruce was VERY offensive. Eddie used foul language but even though it was "edgy" material, it was based on certain realities. Like his drunk father. HILARIOUS MATERIAL with that. Imitating his father Vernon making fun of his wife Lillian. And, imitating Bill Cosby who he looked up to. Just two BRILLIANT COMEDIANS. Eddies COMPOSURE. Jerry Seinfeld has such insight about being successful in stand-up. Has anyone seen the fairly new material where he talks about using the wrong tone of voice in his own house and his wife objects. Realistic and yet peaceful honesty about the relationship with his dear, dear wife. Comedy is in every fiber of Seinfelds being. Eddie is just wonderful, peaceful Eddie. Truly two LEGENDS. Just my perspectives. And my opinions.

He seemed to always do better when playing off of other actors as well, like Beverly Hills Cop's "Billy" character or Dan Aykroyd in Trading spaces. As time went on he shifted from being a wisecracking smartass in his roles to more of a "responsible" fatherly type role. Most of what he does now is family friendly or kids movies, even if he went back to his wisecracking ways you can tell it's just not him anymore. -I think maybe from being a father he felt he had to be a better role model, whatever happened it sucked the humor out of him.
