When you are seeking answers and quoted the definition of a hypochondriac by someone you waited months to see, it's crushing! I was damaged by Cipro in the early 90s. I was on it for 10 years, every problem I was having, by the time I figured things out, I kept being told "it's not the Cipro". Things have changed a bit now, black box warnings, etc. But it is an awful place to be when you can't get help and you are ridiculed for being sick. :(

Im 65 yrs old. Pretty healthy but have aches and pains and arthritis. Found out about this diet and tried it and I'm on day 26 and my arthriitis left my hands and shoulders within 4 day.. I've lost 17 lbs and feel better than I've ever felt. I've been strictly Beef, Chicken Thighs, Fatty Pork Chops, sausage, salami, and water. I have cheated with my instant coffee and cream. Give yourself a 31 day challenge and it could change your life. I only knew about this from the Joe Rogan show with Dr. Sean Baker.

I think it’s crazy that doctors immediately hook you up to medications rather than taking the time to talk to you about your diet and analyze what you’re consuming. I had crazy facial eczema and when I asked the dermatologist if my diet may possibly play a role, he totally disregarded me and prescribed me a stronger prescription of hydrocortisone cream. I decided to stop using that shit, cut off dairy and most carbs, and I haven’t had a flare up in a long long time!

I worked in the medical field for 10+ years, around dozens of practicing physicians, and I only ever came across 1 physician who ever counseled patients on the side affects of taking long term medications and trying elim diets to identify potential dietary triggers. He went to the same type of medical school/residency as all others, didn’t take additional nutrition courses, he just did the research himself because he had family members who were sick. If you are reading this and you have healed yourself via dietary changes, ring your doc who failed you so they can see this works. In my years working in healthcare, I can only recall a few patients who ever notified them of diet changes working and it was such a small amount that the docs assumed it was a one off. Anyways that’s my two cents on what I’ve seen. Hopefully we’ll start to see big changes in western medicine in the coming decade
@YungYdoc

In 2019 I left my home state of California to support my ex-girlfriend with medical school in Florida. As the year went by, I could see how they were training her mind to solely rely on what medications could do for healing the body and completely disregarding all eastern medicines and dietary shifting such as elimination diets. It is pure insanity that at the core of what makes us natural and human, so many of us have it all backwards. It's not rocket science. People forget that though evolved, we're still only animals ourselves. Our bodies crave REAL food, period. Living on medications, sugar and processed foods is no way to live. Man made illnesses plague our society and it's not because of the natural food that's available to us in the world.

Agree! But whats the point to calling the doctor? They're not free. Their office will charge a consultation fee to see them, just for the doctor to dismiss you! Seeing Mikhaila's story after I was diagnosed with various arthritis, sjogrens and dermatomyositis is the reason I started this way of eating. I started in Aug of 22. I have lost 40#s and my inflammation and pain are greatly decreased. I have bone deformity from the arthritis, or the fall I took 20 years ago, or a combination of both. The derma thing seems to be attacking the muscles I have had chronic issues with for many years. I still am not taking any pharmaceutical drugs except occasionally aleve. I believe her. I have a friend with horrible neurological issues--felt like like her arms and legs were on fire, all day, every day. After several neurologist and a decade plus of pain, she talked to a naturopath person (I know, I know, "woo"), who suggested she try dropping foods from her diet. She got down to eating boiled chicken, rice, and tomatoes, as any and every other food gave her body hell. It didn't stop her problems, but it alleviated them a bit. For a few years. Then she started getting worse. Finally got her into an MRI machine to look at her torso (and not her head)... and there was this tiny duct in her pancreas (hepatic or bile duct, can't remember which) where about a half-inch was closing off. They put a tiny one-inch tube in that duct, and quite literally every fucking health issue evaporated. She has to have that little tube replaced every few years, as the body breaks it down, but one fucking spaghetti-sized duct caused basically her whole body to go nuts. If this girl has to eat meat, and only meat, I don't give a shit if no one else on the planet has her same issue--I believe her. Our bodies and digestive systems are so insanely complicated, it seems almost evil to insist we all have the same diets or issues. I'm glad she's got some relief, and I hope she gets to enjoy her life and her child. Poor kid sounds like she deserves it.

This is a sensible comment. Of course there are people out there suffering with issues that going on a strict elimination diet can help, and the carnivore diet is a strict elimination diet. Elimination diets work for people who have undetected allergies or auto-immune issues. The slight problem here is that with Joe's background in promoting meat and hunting, that having her on the show comes across as diet advice for everyone. Which it clearly shouldn't be. When he has good science backed nutritionists like Dr Rhonda Patrick it makes a lot more sense if you ask me.
@mequable
@mequable 5 років тому
Such a good comment, I totally agree. Most of my doctors didn't mention food at all (my dermatologist was more useful than my endocrinologist!), and only when I took responsibility and researched diets, I felt better. And if a strict diet helps, it's better to miss indulging in food, but be functional and happy.
@senselocke
@senselocke 5 років тому
I suppose what most bothers me is the complete obliviousness to the idea that just because we know *a lot* about how the body works, we don't know *everything* about it. For fuck's sake, they "discovered" a new organ in the human body *this year* named the "interstitium". This arrogance, this idea that you know everything, leads doctors and experts to dismiss anything that doesn't fit what they know as fake or impossible. That's not what science does--it doesn't show you what isn't, only a portion of what is. To believe we can have a perfect understanding of anything in the real world is incredibly conceited.
@mequable
@mequable 5 років тому
senselocke very much agree. scientists should be more sceptical than all-knowing. there's this popular attitude towards modern science opposed to "alternative" medicine, and it's making people get extremely arrogant when commenting on this matter. Sadly, most people have to get sick and be left without proper treatment to start searching for answers outside what their doctor keeps telling them. And funny thing, my friend mentioned this new organ recently too in a similar conversation we had. I have to finally find the reddit post about this 😀

I have to literally fight with every doctor to convince them I have ADHD. I am also convinced that I am slightly autistic. My son is autistic and he is exactly how I was as a kid. There have been many studies linking ADHD and autism to truncated proteins. They obviously don't care about what we are suffering from. What did you eat to cure moderate depression?
@jencrews
@jencrews 3 роки тому
@@jamesrobinson4026 Hi! I am happy to help you with this... this is the concise version but let me know if you want more details. What I have learned over the last 15 years is that my depression was part emotional and part physical. The physical part is having a high toxic load in our bodies and the fact that almost all of us have worn away intestinal linings from toxins and medicines and other things (like I was subjected to black mold). Here’s some of what I did: 1. The first step is to figure out what NOT to eat. I cut out all artificial colors and flavors - really cut out processed/prepared food because those have a lot of additives. I also cut out gluten and I don’t eat a ton of sugar but was mindful of that too. 2. I started focusing on whole foods but no grains because they have anti nutrients that are designed by nature to puncture our gut lining unless they have been sprouted (which they never are and frankly I don’t have time to do that myself). I’m blood type O which is the carnivore/cavewoman type and I always knew paleo worked better for me, but that’s something you can figure out from trial and error or one of these great books: The Heart Doctors Cure (Al Sears), the Paleo Solution (Robb Wolf) and the Blood Type Diet (D’Adamo). I found the last one kind of high maintenance although a wellness practitioner I know said she sees that always proves out as a great way to customize one’s diet. 3. I cut out personal care items and cleaning products with toxic chemicals. You would be amazed at how many companies have breast cancer ribbons on their products when they knowingly use carcinogens in the same products. 4. A few years back I added in detox baths which were a game changer! Similar to a sauna the baths raise your body temp and you sweat out toxins. My friend jokes that it’s weird that I sit in the bath and sweat but for 15-20 min I sit in hot water (as hot as you can take without scalding yourself) with Epsom salts and a cup of ginger juice. I do it in the evening and after I get out I lie down and sweat for another hour or so until it stops and then I rinse off and go to bed. The next day I fell so much lighter abs brighter! One note: I invested in a while house water filter ($800 ish) because I wanted to soak in and drink water that isn’t toxic. We settled on Aquasana and it was an investment but worth it when you factor in that you use it for drinking, cooking etc. Sadly there are a lot of toxins in water. By the way, I did this a bit at a time otherwise it’s overwhelming. I suggest that every time you make one improvement feel good and once it’s in place then on to the next. I hope that’s useful. Good luck!

the problem with carnivore diet is the co2 emission it generates, the animal violence that comes with it (it could change with better and more organic farms) and the fact that it tooks like A LOT of water to make 1 kg of meat. The other problem is that all deseases like corona, pork fever, mad cow, bubonic plague, practicly all of these comes from eating animals. In my case i dont like meat too much, and i like to live off the grid and i dont see myself with animals around, i mean its like a lot of work. And iam not confortable with killing them. This video gave me hope and a huge sense of relief because I have had both daily and periodic episodes all my life that no one believed and couldnt be explained. Food has always been my enemy and I joke that I'm just an alien who shouldn't be on earth. I can't take supplements or eat a varied diet without feeling drunk, flu-like, extreme back pain, migraines with aura, awful brain fog and head pressure, eye pain, etc, etc, etc. The episodes included my whole body buzzing for weeks like I was being electrocuted, a rush to the hospital for all the symptoms of a stroke and other things that I just accepted and got used to. And, of course, everyone thought I was crazy. Google searches rarely helped me to believe I was not alone. A Dr tried to diagnose me with fibromyalgia until I found a natural Dr who didn't believe I couldn't tolerate healthy foods or supplements. I feel like Im at a dead end. I've been dabbling with the carnivore idea but I really want to give it a real shot now. Thank you for making me feel less alone.

Here's a theory. Evolutionary-speaking carnivores use their prey as a 'filter' for nutrient digestion. Prey animals digest plants effectively because of one or more specialized evolutionary adaptions. So carnivores eat them, getting nutrients safely without needing the specialized biology. Take termites, 400 species can digest wood and very few other animals can. Carnivore species eat the termites and are basically getting nutrients without being able to eat the trees. And so on along the food chain with chicken, cows, etc. They can digest grass and other plants or grains, that we might otherwise be allergic, or 'sensitive' to. A complementary notion is from the plant's perspective, most don't 'want' to be eaten and likewise seek their own nourishment. Plants are not static or benign, they among the most aggressive kingdom of life on earth. They're in a state of perpetual warfare/adaptation among themselves, fungi, bacteria, predatory herbivores, and who-knows-what else. As in the case of snake venom, modern methods of chemical analysis have revealed that the venom usually contains hundreds of complex compounds of ambiguous origin/function. The same is certainly true of plants, they're likely to carry the random baggage of an epic lineage of survival strategies. So even a 'benign' stalk of broccoli or celery is likely to contain dozens of poorly understood compounds once used for defense or aggression towards unknown assailants or prey. So this is the human diet bell curve. This is the extreme end where people like this have autoimmune issues, she's highly allergic and sensitive to many foods. Then there might be those people with one or more known allergies (peanuts, strawberries, whatever), they're more common. Then there are many more who are 'somewhat' allergic to one or more things(say those non-Celiacs with gluten sensitivity or lactose intolerance). Finally, the majority of us probably tolerate a lot, but we're not every really sure why we're gassy, mentally foggy, or how and when our gut biome is fluctuating. Meat may be a safer way to go, but especially for those with allergic tendencies.

totally agree diet is a factor. Was diagnosed with JRA at age 5 at which time treatment was aspirin and sitting still (the worst advise ever). This was the mid60s and the thinking was that movement would wear out the joints. Aspirin and Celebrex have been my treatments with exception to a few months of prednisone about 5 yrs ago with flair up of my entire body. Never wanted to use steroids or immune suppressants. Have had both hips replaced and movement has been my best treatment (at the gym 5 days/week); keep moving to keep moving. Have had several rheumatologists; none of which discuss or ask about exercise or diet. I don't find doctors to be helpful. Started focusing on my diet last year when my gut was a mess and I had terrible brain fog. Thought I would have to quit my job if I didn't change something. The first week I cut out all gluten and the brain fog lifted. Started Paleo the following week and pains reduced greatly. Reintroduced some foods after 6 months (i.e. eggs but still no gluten, dairy, soy or processed foods). I have snuck in some sugar, but this is definitely taboo. Though feeling better, still looking for ways will further improve how I feel (especially gut and energy level). I will try meats only for 1 month and see what happens.

As someone with autoimmune disease, this is fascinating. I can attest to the fact that diet affects my condition dramatically. I went through every blood test, dermatological test and doctors could not figure out what was wrong with me and I was on a high dose of Prednisone for over a year and a half. i finally decided to turn to a naturopathic doctor. She knew within 15 minutes of talking to me telling her my symptoms and showing her my test results what was wrong with me. She said, "its your liver". She immediately changed my diet and put me on a few supplements and within about 6 months I was off my doctor prescribed medications, rash free, and feeling so much better. I'd like to say my healing was overnight, but the fact is I had to heal a lifetime of abusing my liver with drugs, drinking, and diet. Diet and lifestyle are everything. I healed my liver and feel so much better I'm still super sensitive to certain foods and they rash me out almost immediately, but she also showed me what I've been eating my whole life that I'm allergic to. Fun fact: night shade vegetables are vegetables that grow at night. They typically have more acid that cause more inflammation. People often consider mushrooms a nightshade vegetable. They are not. Yes they grow at night but they a not a vegetable. They are fungi.. They don't cause inflammation. Mushroom cells are just like animal cells. They don't have cell walls like plant cells. They don't do photosynthesis. They take in oxygen and produce co2. Fungi are just like animal cells. And they decrease inflammation. I am pretty sure if you do an all meat diet that eating mushrooms with your meat would be fine. I want someone on the carnivore diet to try mushrooms with there meat. I'm nearly certain they will not have any negative effects.

It's very interesting that you mentioned emulsifiers and then specifically called out Soy Lecithin. My Dad passed away in 1979 at the age of 56 with his fourth heart attack. I am the same physical type as my Dad was. It is a fact that heart disease runs in my family. My younger brother has a pacemaker. My youngest brother has had bypass surgery. My oldest brother who died in a car wreck had bypass surgery and his son has had bypass surgery twice. That was just for background, so here is the thing. I am a picky eater (a meat and potatoes type of guy) so, many years ago I decided I should supplement my diet. I found Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible and read it cover to cover to plan my regime. Along with everything else he recommended that emulsifiers will help break up plaque in the blood stream which might be beneficial to control heart disease. A few years ago at my regular Medicare doctor visit, she found what she called anomalies in my EKG (something like staticky roll-off spikes on the waveform) and sent me to a cardiologist. He told me that they EKG was normal for my age and had me do a treadmill stress test which I passed with flying colors, along with of course other tests since it they were subsidized by Medicare insurance. Then he told me that there was nothing wrong with me and with an annoyed demeanor told me to come back if I ever have a symptom. I asked the cardiologist one last question, that with my family history of heart disease is it possible that my taking 1200 mgs of Lecithin every day for the past 40 years has helped to stave off symptoms? The cardiologist said yes it could have. My wife has several auto-immune linked diseases or conditions, I myself have a base metal allergy so I am not discrediting the Lion Diet in the least bit. I just thought that it was interesting.

To all of you throwing your 'science based facts' left and right here, being overly skeptical and critical towards Mikhaila - I hope you never get to experience a horrible autoimmune condition of any kind, because science won't save you then, because the sad reality is that it doesn't have an answer or a cure, at least not at the moment. You are looking at a healthy, glowing woman that only thanks to her dietary choices have transformed herself in a few short years from a very sick, desperately medication dependent person with a rapidly declining condition to what she is now. I have actually done the same and it took me years as well, but if my doctors were less critical and wouldn't insist on the fact that 'diet has nothing to do with it' - I would've gotten there faster. So tired of all these smart asses overly critical and too scared to search for answers themselves if science doesn't have it.. and attacking those who do. She's just sharing her story and isn't forcing anyone to the same.

There's an important distinction between skepticism of where science has been and studied to death, such as vaccination, versus where science has few answers yet. I partially relate because I had a food issue that my doctor said was psychosomatic but which I had to work out for myself what to avoid, and I still don't hear about anybody linking my symptoms to this food. The science still sucks when it comes to food and autoimmune issues. The self experimenters are often creating the science.
@sonata4real
@sonata4real 5 років тому
I couldn't agree more. If I break a leg - I'm not going to bathe it in oils or herbal baths to heal it hahaa.. but for autoimmune conditions there are hardly any answers other than treating the symptoms to some degree and sadly quite often that causes a number of other side effects that might only worsen the condition. However, there are some doctors and there have been for a while, who have found the link between diet and autoimmune conditions and who've spent decades studying it and came up with fantastic results and wrote books and papers on it and I was searching for answers from people like that. I have read maybe close to some 50 books on this topic and I always looked for someone who actually studied medicine and on top or besides that found the link between diet and autoimmune conditions as this was reassuring. So I definitely agree that some critical thinking is healthy and necessary in both regards - modern medicine and not.

Alex Smith... They're starting to... My wife has what doctors just call "IBS" and want to throw anti-depressants at it to try and fixt it. In my book, not ok. If you look, there's clinical trials being done for depression and alcohol use. There's articles correlating Fecal Matter Transplants to changes in mood. And, first-hand experience, I live in a mental "cloud" most days myself. I've been exercising for about a year and started to slowly focus on my diet. Cutting out carbs has significantly increased my ability to focus, something that has felt to progressively depleted in recent years.

I did it and it actually worked. Sadly I do weightlifting and I need carbs. I felt getting weak after my carb levels dropped. Still felt good if I didn’t lift so heavy and so much i would still be on it but I stay on better carbs now. It did help so much when I tried it. I’ll definitely cycle on this would be great

My skin erupted due to biologics that I was taking for my arthritis. Had to change brands a few times. Skin issues are well known for causing skin eruptions.

May I ask what biologics you’re on? I take enbrel for my arthritis, and a couple other oral medications. Haven’t had huge problems body wise from the medication (at least that are noticeable), but it’s definitely a bother to have to take them, and if diet could take a load off my symptoms that’d be incredible! (Just for context, I’m 21, going into my 10th year of being diagnosed with arthritis)

I have went on a very similar diet as well as my husband and son and since December I have lost forty lbs,my husband and son have lost over fifty pounds,I am off high blood pressure pills and arthrittis shots,my husband's diabetes has disappeared,and my son has had his blood pressure lowered and is so much more physically fit.The amazing part is that it is the simplest diet of any I have ever been on.We eat meat,fish and dark green vegetables...

Amazing! Do you consider eating other highly bioavailable foods like eggs for example?

Having this conversation is life changing for me, my story sounds as crazy as yours. I literally am intolerant to every food just eating in general. I have ulcerative colitis and ibs but I have so many symptoms daily that it’s hard to explain or expect anyone to understand. This started as a child for me but the last 7 years has been so much suffering and I have hired coaches and drs and been to a dermatologist, allergist, gastroenterologist, I doctor, and I get no answers except it’s ibs nothing you can do. I did the elimination diet strictly for months eating a handful of foods and we never got to the point where I could add food back in because I was never good enough to be able to add food back in. I am so glad you did this interview and that it crossed my path ❤

Hi Kristal, I was also diagnosed with UC and IBS after two years of pain and hospital stays. The doctors said I would have it for life. Prescribed antibiotics for 6 months and steroids for life. I researched and started drinking Aloe Vera Inner Fillet Gel (I use Lilly of the Dessert brand). I haven’t had a symptom in 8 years now. I realize not ever cure works for every body but wanted to share. For me, I feel like I found a a magical cure for this nasty disease.

Add ginger to green tea or black tea helps me even chewing ginger pieces from the tea.

I've suffered from severe inflammation in my legs knees n feet ..supposedly from diabetes. I went keto/carnivore but I do eat carbs only from plants n veggies my pain levels actually did lessen..but what really took the edge off the extreme pain is a natural supplement called Magnesium Malate it took me 4 days of taking it when I realized it was working..reason being I found myself walking as if I was still in pain..my brain was programed to anticipate the pain.i had to be mindful and walk "normal" again..literally 4 days taking it took away 15yrs of pain cortisone shots..pain management classes..etc etc nothing ever worked like this before. I'm now able to exercise n able to do things with my family do to not being in so much pain..hopefully you can try it maybe it'll help you..also lost 2 pant sizes n my cholesterol went from 218 to 203 almost normal 199 is normal. Eating mostly keto/carnivore. Good luck.

OMG that's me and my sister! I did a water fast elimination diet for a week in May (2023) and my itching stopped. Had it since early childhood. I was on antihistamines year round, up to 4 tablets a day and it still wasn't enough! Glutamine powder heals the leaky gut. Wheat and milk are the big causes.
