Hi friends happy Monday!
Hope you are all staying safe and healthy out there. Sorry I went a little MIA but I am happy to be back. Today I wanted to talk about Jim Jones and what was going on with his whole situation. This could easily be a 3 part series, there are so many more people and factors that came into play as well, but I wanted to keep it simple and focus on Jim and his life. Honestly, it would've gotten so confusing QUICK if I started throwing all these different names at you. Anywho, thank you guys so much for stopping by and hanging out with me. Hope you all have a wonderful rest of your day, Love and appreciate you guys so much!! I hope to be seeing you very soon

Apparently he did "heal" her. The doctor told her she would need a wheelchair after 40, but she died at 51 without the need for a chair. I think he claimed he prevented that from happening.

I wish I could like this 2x. Lol. The funny part is how didn't he get anyone to heal in the crowd that he didn't know? That called him out on it...was like, I'm crippled, have cancer...etc...then he does nothing to heal them and they limp off stage... or die(not funny at all btw)...and ppl start to realize he was lying?! This is so bizarre...unless he always 'picked' ppl he knew...🤔

Jim Jones scares me like no other cult leader because his early message of equality is one I would have agreed with, and might have been tempted to follow. Other cults leave me wondering how these people got taken in by the leader, but with Jones, I know exactly how. I can see myself as one of his followers and it terrifies me.

At my previous job I worked with a woman who survived this nightmare. Her, her son, mom, sister, and her husband all lived in Jonestown. When Jim Jones was telling everyone they had to die, she fled in the rainforest with her baby on her back. Unfortunately, her family didn’t join her. She had to leave in secret because she knew it was her only way out. A tragedy. PS she’s literally one of the sweetest, kindest people I know. Her name is Leslie and she actually wrote a book about her experience. It’s called Slavery of Faith by Leslie Wagner-Wilson

Bailey isn’t lying about that last tape. I had to listen to some of it for a college course years ago, and it is truly devastating. You hear people screaming in pain, including CHILDREN and BABIES, and you hear mothers wailing because their children are dying. There’s one point where mothers are crying and begging to keep their children from taking the poison, and Jim Jones is telling them they have to let their children go. You don’t forget that tape once you hear it. Jim Jones is an absolute monster.

Some of my aunts and uncles knew Jim Jones, went to school with him at Richmond High School. One of my uncles said Jim was a real nice guy and was shocked to hear the news. My Mom tells a story about how this little Black boy walked into a barbershop in Richmond to get his hair cut for his mother's funeral. The White barber refused and Jim Jones stood up for the child. He shamed the barber for refusing the boy service when he just wanted to be presentable for his mother's funeral. This tragedy is heartbreaking on so many levels.

Jonestown is one of the few stories that truly make my skin crawl. I know this might just be a theory, but can you imagine being an african american in the times of segregation and you hear of this wonder church that accepts everyone and truly cares for you? Can you imagine how many african americans viewed his church as a sanctuary? A safe haven? A place where they truly felt equal? Actually, Bailey, if you haven't already, this would make for a brilliant "Dark History" video if you haven't already. It is MACABRE. On the morning of the 19th, Guyanese foot soldiers went to the compound and it was dead quiet. The whole ground was apparently covered in a veil of fog. They described the ground feeling damp and marshy. But that silence was shattered when a younger teenage foot soldier actually saw what he was walking on. He apparently screamed and screamed, went into hysterics. All he could say was "BODIES! ITS ALL BODIES! EVERYWHERE". I hope that man is okay.

I was purposely skipping over this video because I knew that someone in my family was killed in the massacre. But last night my cousin made a post about my great grandfather who was killed in Jonestown because she learned new info about it so I figured I should watch. I called my mom and she still cries over it, she misses her grandpa. She’s still heartbroken because she had a close relationship with him and remembers spending so much time with him when she was younger. She told me before how her older sister was planning on going to Jonestown with him and his second wife but didn’t end up going. Thankfully she didn’t and she’s still alive today. It hurts to know that this is part of my history.

Over the last few days I’ve been speaking to more family members and getting more details of what things were like for Jim Jones’ followers. My mother says every night when they sat down for dinner there was a photo of Jones hanging there near the dinner table. They also hung a photo of him over their bedroom doorway. When they would arrive at/depart from the church my mother and her siblings (children at the time) would have to cover their eyes while their grandpa walked them into the church or into the car. They had to do this because people would be protesting and holding signs that their grandpa didn’t want them to read. The protesters would shout that there was a witch in the church. It’s so sad that my great grandfather was so convinced. He sold several properties that he owned and gave it all for Jim Jones and to move to Jonestown.

I know a man whose parents were apart of his church, but they left when he went to south america. They went out to Arkansas and built a house in the mountains in Mena. He does work for people there, but won't take money for anything. People just put money in his account at a hardware store or they buy groceries for him and his family. He is actually a really sweet man. He never raises his voice, cusses, or anything like that. Only one of his kids was born in a hospital, and they are great kids. He doesn't really remember Jim, but he said he liked going to the church because sometimes his dad would let him have a coke after.

For those who are curious about the tapes; unless you are desensitised to human suffering, neurodivergent where you are capable of closing off emotions entirely/don’t completely understand emotions, or can disassociate, don’t listen to them. With my neurodivergency the suffering in the tapes doesn’t affect me, but it would affect a neurotypical individual whom is capable of understanding emotions. Dunno how else to explain it, but basically I can’t feel that emotional response, but these tapes can bring out strong emotional responses from neurotypical individuals. The tape has a lot of children screaming/crying/pleading, parents actively telling their children, whom are dying, to be quiet. You can hear struggling, a hysterical woman and Jim telling women to control their children and to silence them, whom again, are literally dying and in pain. The tape starts to get really quiet towards the end, and at the end of the 44ish minute tape there’s silence, no crying, no screaming, no talking, all you can hear is the music Jim had been playing in the background the entire time (edit; I have been told the music was what Jim recorded over, so the distorted music comes from that). So you’ve been warned; if you are emotionally healthy then save yourself from listening to the tape, especially parents, folk have told me as parents this pains them and hurts their hearts, so this will be an incredibly difficult listen. I’m “lucky” to be neurodivergent and don’t really understand emotions at the best of times and am completely desensitised/can disassociate (I’ve cPTSD along with being neurodivergent) but the tape is still extremely creepy to listen to. Edit: never once stated all neurotypicals (NDs) are incapable of feeling emotions, I specifically stated that I, myself, as an individual, have a complete lack of proper understanding of emotions, am desensitised and can disassociate entirely from what emotions I somewhat understand. All NDs are different from one another, so please stop assuming I claimed we are all the same with regards to emotional responses. Thank you.

I remember seeing the photos and was horrified. If anyone is interested in this kind of stuff, I would look into Stories from Jonestown. It focuses more on the members of the Temple (who honestly were victims in this case) instead of Jim Jones himself, and was written by one of the members of the Tectonic Theatre Project (who was behind The Laramie Project). There’s an opinion Times article that I think is worth a read: “The Story of Jonestown is more than Jim Jones.” I’m glad you gave context to the entire situation that explains what happened up to the event.

My dad was in the airforce during this time and he was sent out to Jonestown. His war skill was mortuary so he had to bag and tag all the bodies there. He said that he didn't handle Jim's body, although his buddy did. He recounted his experience to me and said how they were alerted to get on a plane and had no idea what was going on or where they were going. They then landed in Panama and were notified at that point exactly what was happening and where they were going. They went from there to Jonestown. He told me about all he saw there, and it was horrifying. He said often bodies were falling apart since they were exposed for some time to the elements. Mothers holding their children that still had the liquid in their bottles. He has ptsd from his experience there and said he still has nightmares many nights about it. I only just learned about all this from him recently about him going there and it was so wild to me listening to him talk about it even though I'd already known a lot about Jonestown.

There is really nothing to generalize. Jones--even in his younger years-was a self professed Atheist and Marxist who very cynically and opportunistically used a "religious" platform to prey upon people like the insidious vulture that he was. The idea that Jones 'started out' a Christian, then transformed into a secularist, is just pure fantasy. I have a stack of documents obtained via a FOIA request, as well as a number of books on this subject, and honestly, I don't believe he had any real core beliefs or convictions whatsoever; a megalomaniac and sociopath if there ever was one... And very likely working in the service of others who were as bad as he was.

I live in Guyana, and my father told me when it happened he was at the airport that day and they were piles of bodies coming on the airstrip from planes. The area known as Jonestown is now just abandoned bush lands.

At first I felt so conflicted because he seemed like a great person, I knew that he wasnt going to be because Bailey was making a video on him. But like, not being racist, creating a church where both black and white people could come and preach their religion. Making companies accept black customers, helping teenagers get to college for free with free housing and free food. Even the stores that helped out the community get clothes that they may need while helping the other people in the community get rid of some unwanted objects or clothing in their homes. Everything else, horrible, but those things made me think that he wasnt so bad at first.

Lol in 6th grade a substitute teacher played the DVD the teacher left on her desk for social studies class. Turns out, the librarian dropped the wrong video off and we watched a documentary on Jonestown… the principal had to send out a class wide apology email cause we went home and told our parents how scarred we were lol… we were supposed to learn about the presidents 😅

Add to that abuse issues, which she didn't go over for some reason, and the sunshine need to replace their family members. That's what cult leaders and abuse victims do. When their family betrays them they still need that relationship, so they end up replacing them with other people.
@jessiehermit9503
@jessiehermit9503 3 роки тому
@@alexsandragalindo1528 That's the _conscious_ goals. Domestic abuse figures majorly in all that, too, and I think feeling betrayed by family. The cult or church becomes their surrogate family.

You know, the scary part of this story is how easy it would be to fall for his charisma and charm. On the outside he looked like a genuinely decent person. Maybe he started that way. Maybe he was always screwy. But no matter what it makes me feel uneasy.

It was located in Victoria Australia, it is honestly one our most chilling stories and something I don’t think anyone will forget in Australia, unfortunately my dad was one of the children brought up in the cult and the story is both tragic and fascinating

My dads grandmother was one of the followers who went with them to Guyana. I remember watching a documentary about it when I was a kid and my dad spoke up about it. He said he remembers going to the church as a kid in California & seeing the “miracle” sermons Jim would have. He said that the govt brought back the majority of the bodies but his grandmother’s body was never identified, so there’s no telling if she was left back there or brought back here. He got very teary eyed speaking about it and said he didn’t like talking about it...
