Your entire point goes back to the gender and how the differences between men and women are raised. I think women are taught in Western society to be amenable, which is antithetical to climbing the corporate ladder. Being from Sweden, a lot of things Jordan says is true, for some reason we have an obsession with equality, there has to be 50/50 men and women in every job, and I never understood why. Surely it's a better idea to just let men and women become whatever they desire, and if it turns out that on average, women aren't as interested to become electrical engineers as men then that's the way it is, there's no reason to force that specific field to hire more women to level it out. And we are different, both physically and mentally. So different choices in professions is to be expected. Women tend to seek nursing-related jobs more than men, and men tend to be more interested in objects (technology, vehicles etc).
@turbotrup963 роки тому
wait, are you saying that at every job there has to be about the same gender ratio?
@henrir19413 роки тому
I agree that there should not have to be a 50/50 on each job, we should hire the most qualified regardless of anything but capabilities. I do however think that as a society we should not assign jobs with genders even if that job does have more of one gender working in it. This amplifies the fact that more of one sex works in one a certain field. For example a female may be put off working as an electrician because it’s a “mans field” and not because her brain is wired that way.

To say that men and women are different is considered controversial. WTF happened to us?
@ariadnewolf86675 років тому
Honest answer? Sociology suggests that conditioning and nature impact each other. The logical extrapolation of that is that we can't necessarily observe the "objective" differences between men and women because we're all shaped by our circumstances and by what our parents and teachers and media have taught us. Basically, possibly men and women/males and females are different, but what we identify as a man versus what we identify as a woman is shaped by society. Which differences are noted and highlighted as important is decided by society. But that's it. That's not saying men and women aren't different, or that males and females aren't different. It's saying that what those differences are and how big those differences are, can't be precisely pinpointed by us, because we exist within a society that shapes both our own perspective and shapes what we're looking at. None of that means that there IS no difference, or that you can possibly organize a society where there are no differences. It certainly doesn't suggest that you SHOULD go about organizing a society where there are no differences! I trained as a sociologist. Sociology as a discipline is not in alignment with what Peterson refers to as the radical left.

Look objectively at the problems, and figure out solutions. and yes, if we all believe we as humans are truly equal, meaning that our differences are between individuals and not between groups, meaning whites are no different from blacks, or men from women, than the inequalities that we see in the present OUTCOME should raise some red flags. because right now society shows inequalities based on gender race, etc. Erasing inequalities between individuals is not a deried or realistic project, but erasing inequalities betewen races for example is very well achievable and there are a number of solutions that could be practiced. the problem is it goes against the bigoted status quo so nothing changes and people just say "oh welp. things are always going to be inequal so why bother doing anything"

I might even make opportunities for myself to get to where I'm going faster like speeding, making rolling stops, or making frequent lane changes.

Yeah thats too bad for them. Because Peterson intentionally doesnt mention that hes a psychologist to his patients which pretend to be interviewers for the sake of social experiments for the improvement of the patients mental state. "Oh I see, you believe there are more than 2 genders eh? Well thats interesting. Please go ahead... While he makes notes about his patients & benefits from studying the depths of human psyche XD And soon enough all of his interviewers & people he lead a discussion with are currently sitting all in mental asylums in a "hug me tight west" to prevent them to be a danger to society. We give our patients electroshocktherapy 3 times a day. With enough volts to make the internal temp of them 114°F so they are nicely medium rare lol. Peterson is basically like Chris Hansen. He preys on potential mental asylum candidates & carries out his profession with elegance & expertise. And thats why avoid talking to my psychologist cause I wouldnt want to traumatize him with my life stories. So he needs a therapist as well lol. Jordan Peterson might be 1 of the smartest man in human history. And he is most certainly a very essential figure in the 21th century. His wisdom will shape the way for a brighter future. Out of this stupid & lazy capitalistic maze & onto the path of wisdom & knowledge. He inspired me to persue to study philosophy in the near future. And he also inspired me to get into reading more books. Especially Dostojewski, George Orwell, Nietzsche & so forth. This man has inspired me to become a better person that solves problems with words rather than pointless violence. Its fascinating how much of an impact 1 single person can make on you. Mr Peterson also inspired me to spend more time on things I truly love in life & make me passionate & help me be 1 with myself. I spend much more time on creating music, writting poetry or doing art in general. All it takes is reading 1 inspiring quote by a wise person & it gets me through the day with a smile. I appreciate the little things in life. I focus on the important things not if I have the newest I phone or other trivial stuff. Also being surrounded by nature is also quite therapeutic. Someday I want to leave our fast paced society behind & move perhaps to scandinavia with my family. Just somewhere surrounded by nature in a small cabin. Planting crops, raising animals, & trying to sustain ourselves with our own produce & what not as possible. I feel like the less time I spend online the happier I am. Because there is so many to do that can improve your entire outlook on life. Working out, having a balanced diet, meditating etc All it takes is a step into another direction & you can be so much more happy in life. Just love yourself thats all you can do. And eventually that reflection of love will hit someone else. And make your love shine onto another & you will be happy. I want to share a song with anyone that might be interested to clear up his mind from all the impurities. Check out Padmasana by Buckethead. A really life altering track. Peace

As Peterson himself has said "it depends on what you want". And so whilst I can't deny the truth of his observations, it's not unreasonable to me that some people may want, for example, more women in STEM fields, because it may produce other socially desirable outcomes. So I'm not opposed to the idea that some kind of hybrid of "equality of outcome" and "equality of opportunity", might get more of what we as a society "want". I'll use an example, lets say that it's true that men are more interested in cars, lets say that for whatever reason men are also more competent at producing cars, but lets say hypothetically that women on average design safer cars. "Society" could "decide" that they "want" to enact policies that encourage more women to build cars because it will create the desirable outcome of there being safer cars. So as Jordan says, "it's f#$#$! complicated eh?".

Jordan Peterson bothers radical feminists because he's done the research, he has the numbers to back up what he says. He's also level-headed enough to not get dragged down into the crap like name-calling and other things that distract from the topic. Sadly, he's usually the smartest guy in the room and he has to talk at what is for him a third-grade level so 'normal' people can understand him.
@gabidimarco83283 роки тому
Feminists also have numbers to back them up. The wage gap is very real. Graphs and everything exist. I’m talking about the gap when a woman has the same job, same hours, same qualifications, and still gets paid less. Also why would Obama talk about it if it was a myth? You have these high political figures who actually know their stuff, but all people want to do is think that their America is so perfect, because these problems don’t affect them. People group all feminists as being crazy, when really it is just a fight for gender equality. This man has never been marginalized because of his race or gender, so it is easy to minimize a group of people’s problems. People would be livid if he said something about black people or another race. So why do you all just doubt women’s problems?

Both sides have reasonable people who had differing lived experiences and so have different beliefs and on both sides there are highly extreme people who twist words and call names.

But then when women do those jobs, they get ridiculed and made fun of. Boys in the hair and make up industries are supported by women they work with, and I think that should apply the other way around too. But it unfortunately doesnt
@Mikkixox93 роки тому
@@gabidimarco8328 I agree with you about supporting and encourage girls and women. I also think that men/boys face a great deal of redicule and discrimination going into more 'female' lines of work or even if they grow up a little more on the feminine side. I work in education and there's some distrust and fear over male educators working with young children, which is a shame because some of the best educators I've worked with have been men. As well, from my experience if a little girl plays with blocks, cars, trucks and likes sports she's seen as a 'tom boy', where as if a boy likes to play with the dolls, dress up, care for babies and paint their nails, people are generally more concerned that their may be something 'wrong' with the child. I think their is a societal issue/perception of girls/women=weak and boy/men being=strong and neither of those are good, because then boys learn to bottle their feelings and emotions to be 'stong' and girls learn to be agreeable and people pleasers. It's not healthy on either end, but I have a lot of hope for the generations coming up as I do my small part to help move the needle.

I remember reading our ministers comments about Petersson and hearing about it again makes me feel ashamed of being Swedish. Jordan Petersson is such a classy guy and so proffesional in the way he behaves in, at least for me, stressful debates with agitated dissidents. Problem is/was that many people, including our foreign minister for sure, didn't understand that he was delivering facts and whats studies tend to show, not his own opinions. I saw Peterson hosting a Swedish talkshow around the same time and another polititian, leader of a well astablished party in Sweden, tried to argue with him not understanding that he presented well documemted facts and not personal views. Peterson kept his calm, as always, and tried to explain but to no good. She ended it with saying: "Well, i dont agree with that"! Don't ask me how u dont agree with facts, but that's what she said! Again, feeling a bit ashamed for being Swedish, but it was very clear that she didn't understand 1) the terminology he was using and how "equality of choice" effects "equality of outcome" 2) that he presented facts and what studies tend to show. Could've been a language barrier.. But no. It was ignorance and unwillingnes to understand. It's hard to comprehend how top polititians in a country, can misinterpret a situation that bad. Not just one polititian but several of them.. The outcome when having total equality of choice apperently isn't what could be expected and doesn't suit the feminist agenda. So instead of trying to understand the paradox and face the truth.. The outcome became Petersons personal views and he got stamped as an antifeminist. Even the talkshow host started asking questions about Petersons upbringing and what kind of father figueres he had! As if to find out where the professor in psykology got his vierd views from! It was very embarrising to watch, not to say cringy! But Petersons, kept his composure as always and politly answered the questions, no doubt understanding what was going on. I'm certain, that quoting and forced equality of outcome is to be far more expected in my country in the future.. As to correct what free choice couldnt achieve!

It’s always “fun” to listen to men make statements about women that do not reflect the reality of most women. I’m a female software engineer, but from my earliest memories I was steeped in gender stereotypes. Walk through a toy store. Watch a movie. Even most kid’s cartoons are STILL stereotyped characters. Even if our parents and every teacher we have were miraculously free of all implicit gender bias, we are STILL living within a culture that is staggeringly unbalanced. Most girls and young women get conscious and unconscious messages 1000x day about what women are most valued for. To suggest that women in cultures that value equality are choosing *based purely on interest* is absurd. Just because I discovered I *could* do something in no way means I’m not culturally programmed to not *want* to. Having said this, there are of course differences in what individuals find interesting, but it’s virtually impossible to know what’s there when every moment of our life we’re still hit with culture signals that women are sex objects, mothers, caretakers. I’m glad I took typing class as a young girl, because it proved useful when writing code. But I was there because in that time, ALL girls were being prepared for work as a secretary. We had to take Home Ec classes while the boys got to do the cool shop classes. At least I didn’t have to attend “charm school”, a requirement for all girls when my older sister was in school. I started out with a degree in education because I thought that was a good role for a woman. Only much later did I accidentally stumble into programming, realize I could not only do it but loved it, and went back to school for computer science. My big regret in life is that it never occurred to me until I was over 30 that this was a thing I would *like.* what we are “interested” is heavily colored by what we have come to accept. And JP is doing his best to keep the culture focused on gender stereotypes, but claiming it’s “just science.” We don’t yet HAVE the science because we don’t have many “control groups” raised with no culture stereotypes. One trip to my local corner gas station’s magazine rack is enough to remind me women are for looking at naked or buying makeup and clothing, while men are running companies. JP’s recent Twitter was partly from his criticism of a thick model who did not fit the stereotype of a “sexy swimsuit model” (though, interesting, at other times and cultures, much heavier women WERE viewed as more desirable. Culture matters. We cannot escape cultural norms. Maybe what JP says is true… maybe we’re doomed by our evolution to live like this. Maybe I’m a freakish anomaly for enjoying making things with code. Maybe it’s a character or personality flaw that draws me to something I’m not supposed to like. Or maybe far more girls would have loved it from the start if not pounded by messages like the one in this video.
