Yep, she and Alex/Jasper went into that first scene "loaded for bear", for sure, albeit with Eva minus two fingertips.

robert watson that might be true, but chances are that’s highly unlikely. Ivory Tower already has enough trouble with their high ranks filled with unstable members. If she is as damaged and wounded as you speak, it’s probably isn’t something unknown to Strauss and she probably doesn’t hold any real power beyond what was granted to her in order to achieve her objective. And if she isn’t really terribly afraid, then it’s outright bluff. Either way, she gave no reason to believe she has something else to her beyond being minion of Maximillian. Doesn’t matter why she goes full emotional, is that deliberate or not, there is a person with red glasses who definitely watches that closely. She clearly tries to sink battleship Java and clearly tries to sway Eva to return back under heel of Pyramid. Doesn’t even matter if Katya is dominated by Strauss or not, she got her status only because Garrick couldn’t do that. Jasper feels that. Victor knows that for sure. And Eva... Well, we know sire vs childe relations are complicated.

Victor has been my favorite character ever since season 1, if you try to see things from the perspective of "the guy who has to keep things afloat" everything he does just makes so much sense that you can't really blame him for anything.

My opinion is that B.Dave Walters is completely capable of playing a successful Baron and it shows, specially in this season. That being said Victor, as a character, has no place in that position and is only there (and alive at all, possibly) as a result of plot armor and wish fulfillment.

Aaron Goldsmith Katya’s character development in this episode was amazing.

Or she could still be a manipulative bitch in sheep's cloth. The way she portrays all the Pyramid Tremeres are like abusive parents or spouse for her benefit while she is one herself.

I too warmed a lot to Katya, but on the other hand I also see elements of the tactics an abused person learns from the abuser. What really sticks out in both of her appearances (series 3 epilogue and this) is her determination to isolate Eva socially by attacking Eva's relationship with Jasper -- in this ep both directly in conversation with Eva and indirectly via her conversation with Victor. That's classic abuser shit right there.
