Hello, I 'd say that the indeclinable forms are a bit more common, there is no particular context rule, though. No, λευκό is not καθαρεύουσα, but you could say it's a bit more formal. If you write an essay or a formal letter, it's better to use λευκό instead of άσπρο. Also keep in mind that some standard phrases where you should always use λευκό instead of άσπρο. Ε.g Λευκός Οίκος (White House)

Yes indeed, it is a strange sound for many other language speakers! Especially "γ+α=γα" and "γ+ο=γο". I suppose "γε", "γου", "γι" are a bit easier since there are some slightly similar sounds in English "yet, wood, yield". Hello Tony, of course there are Greek words for the colours, such as κυανό for blue, ιώδες for purple etc. They are mostly used in scientific terminology but it's not wrong to use them instead of their most recent equivalents.

I present the most common words that people use every day. No one ever says ιώδες or κυανός unless in science and most of the other words are used in literature and not in everyday life. Let's not pretend that this language is isolated from the world! It's not a bad thing and there is no need to prove that there are Greek words for almost everything. The point is to help people communicate.

@@linaaaap1 This vocabulary exists in the lexicons but the loan words are unfortunatelly more prefered by the greeks. The greek language has an amount of 7.000.000 words and 71.000.000 linguistic expressions, even though the greek language can translate everything, loan words are still in use because of the modernisation. For me it is important and logical at the same time to show others original greek words so that they can deepen and enrich their linguistic knowledge. It would make no sense showing others foreign words wich are not connected with the greek language, showing foreigners foreign words it is like teaching them a different language but not greek. ! Like it or not the foreign words are meaningless in the greek language and do not help you develop your knowledge and your general linguistic expressions. It does not make you look educated if you use foreign words in a language, instead it shows that you have linguistic shortages and deficiencies. It is a pitty for the greek language not to use the original words because is one of the richest languages wich can translate everything. Unfortunatelly in nowadays nobody can speak greek, except educated people, the big irony is that the greeks themselves can not speak greek and teach foreigners a language that is not hellenic any more and that is the reason why greek language will not exist in the future. Using foreign words that is to say that the greek ones are replaced and get forgotten with the passage of time, if we will not stop to use foreign words, in the future there will not exist a hellenic language any more, we will end up speaking a language wich is mixed from latin languages, germanic and slavic languages. Something you do not understand is that the greek language can translate everything without being wrong, regardless if it is a forgotten word, the linguistic richness gives us the posibility to do it but we do not exploit it. Every foreign word wich is used by greek speakers it is seen as a degradetion towards the greek language. As you may preceived this is not the appropriate language to discuss about your views, because the greek language does not need any loan word. We can even translate modern things with ancient greek words wich are meaningful towards the greek language.

I obiously love the Greek language but I prefer to be realistic. 5. My purpose is not to prove the "superiority" of the Greek language or get into details. This is not a video or channel for linguists. If I got into details I could say that "ροζ", the French word that we use everyday in Greek for pink, is a reborrowing from the ancient Greek ῥόδον, which of course refers to the flower and not the colour. My students want to learn basic things to communicate but for anyone who is interested in liguistics, there are unlimited resources online. Finally, the magic of languages is that they are alive and communicate with each other. Addition of new words and terms to adapt to reality is natural and proves that a language is alive and progressing. English is a very rich language with thousands of borrowed words and new terms added to it everyday. However I never heard anyone saying that the English languge is being distorted or in danger to die. So, please, in the future, if you want to suggest rare literary/scientific alternatives to my vocabulary videos, clearly state so and not mark words used every day by millions of people as 🚫.
