Looters have been allowed to get away with their crimes and it's time to put an end to it! Just because there's been a terrible crisis, doesn't give ANYONE a right to take what's not theirs. Deadly force is the only thing those lowlife miscreants are going to understand.

I'm a native floridian, I've lived in the states 67 years, I've been through every hurricane that we've had. This can change direction within a 24-hour period, you can literally wake up in the morning and it be at your doorstep! People armchair quarterbacking the preparation of the storm, are trying to make this all political. Anybody seeing that storm coming had the opportunity to leave at any time and they chose not to. I was a direct hit and left and went to the other coast last week. My heart goes out to this area, I fear our state will never be the same after this. But I know others will rebuild because they love their state.

@JessicaMcNally
@JessicaMcNally Рік тому
You nailed it! The stress with a hurricane is if you are making the decision to leave, you need to get out 2 days BEFORE the estimated area of impact in the "cone of uncertainty". Even if the hurricane changes course you are far better off having evacuated and nothing happen than not having evacuated and taking a direct hit. Every time there is a major storm, UKposts pops up local news channel clips of reporters interviewing people who stayed and every time they regret having stayed. Every time. It's absolutely ridiculous in this day in age that people still don't understand the severity of the situation when there is a major hurricane and they are in a coastal community! I wish all the news channels around Florida who have covered storms over the last 2 decades would put together a one hour giant reel of "I regret having styed" clips and use it as an evacuation tool for the next time a major hurricane is barreling toward the state.

Once Mother Nature unleashes her energy, there is no going back. People lucky enough to get a warning should get out of the way if they can. I was staying with my parents when Mt. St. Helen's erupted. We had no idea the ash cloud would come their way and dump ash on their house for 24 hours. It was pitch black outside for a whole day. The air in the house was dense. It was scary. Some people's roofs collapsed. The destruction it caused upstream was like the end of the world.

I’m sorry, my comment came off cold. I did watch the video, that’s why I Commented. What I was saying is, people can’t be forced to leave unless there is a mandatory evacuation and even then, it’s difficult to enforce that especially when told only a day before landfall. It was very difficult to predict where this hurricane was going to impact. I’m in no way victim blaming bc this is all just the aftermath of a natural disaster. It’s a hard choice to make and people have to decide whether they will leave.

It was exhausting moving our personal belonging into storage and making plans to evacuate. We stayed in a hotel in Sarasota. My husband has medical needs and we are both seniors. We are thankful, grateful and blessed that our mobile home was not touched and we had a home to come back to when many of our neighbors homes now have damage. Every person who lives in Florida or is here visiting has to take responsibility for their own safety first and to heed the warning way in advance and get out of dodge. Sir I don't know you and I'm not going to blame you or any one else for the I could have, should have, would have blame game. At the beginning and at the end we are all responsible for our own safety. I pray that through the storm God will shine his light into the hearts of many. People can only take so many of their possessions with them in order to escape. But the fact that there are so many slimy, bad people out there who stop at nothing to steal, vandalize and loot others' property because of these situations, isn't disheartening as much as it's disgusting. I am sorry to say this, but I have been in Florida for over 25 years. I happen to live in North Pinellas county. In the time I have lived here every time they say a hurricane is going to it Pinellas county, it always changes course. I either its where this one did or a little above in Sarasota or it hits the panhandle. I watched Irma was supposed to hit us. I watched as it got closer and then it veered to Hillsborough County. I know living in Florida that you have to be prepared because those storms always change direction. My heart breaks for everyone that has been so badly affected by this storm. I pray for all of your safe recovery.

I have never seen Florida be so prepared for a storm as it was for Ian. I am not a resident right now, but I call Fl my home since 1967, I was raised in Jax, I know what hurricanes can do and how unpredictable one can be. I want to thank the Governor and all the City officials who put the plan together for people to have the opportunity to leave or make other plans. No one can say where it was going to finally land. This Sheriff needs support not condemnation! The way to recover is to support each other. Prayers and love for all of Florida.

When Tampa was being evacuated I4 had hours long traffic for a few days. Get real about how Florida is shaped and how realistic it was for people several hours south of Tampa to evacuate with 2 hours notice. The hurricane came up through central Florida and people that evacuated from Tampa to places like Orlando got stuck in Orlando because of the flooding there. Power was out in Tampa for days still too. People who have no understanding of what happened or can't really seem to see the big picture always love to be experts in the comments section. Or you're just biased because you have to stand by your political views every second of everyday and if that means criticize anyone right of you, you'll justify saying anything to make a nonsense point. @@Kanne606 the area that was hit, was within the cone of uncertainty that was projected. The only way to evacuate safely is to move at least 300 miles away a day or two before the storm's feeder bands even reach your area. Even the east coast was experiencing tornados the night before Ian hit, because the right side feeder bands reached Florida. If you are within the cone of uncertainty and it's projected to be a cat 4 hurricane, that's the time to decide to leave, and you don't evacuate to an area within the cone. It's possible if the hurricane made landfall in Tampa Bay rather than south it would be safer in the south, but that's why it's called the cone of "uncertainty."
