It is a great location, because it is like Devil's Island. Even if someone escapes the fences, there is no easily ability to get away. The Mississippi is on one side and the place is surrounded by unconsolidated loess soil which is full of ravines and tangled undergrowth with one road connecting it with the outside world. The road is lined with houses of those who work at the prison.

Prevention is the key ! Raise your kids better, teach respect for authority, (parents, teachers,police etc). NY inmates just received tablets, pretty sure most school age children in low income families don't have a tablet!

As I watched this I felt these lifers lives are much more comfortable than what they would have if left out on the streets. They have a clean bed, 3 meals a day. Watching the hospice unit with other prisoners giving compassionate care is MUCH BETTER THAN SLEEPING ON A COLD SIDEWALK.

I have a female friend that is in a woman's prison. She's doing time for lying to the grand jury. Something that we all would have done if you were as scared as she was. Over the last 3 years I have met quite a few very senior citizen life prisoners. Each and every one of them are just nice old ladies not the same people who were sentenced to life. One woman is 89 years old and I would like to know how would she be a threat to society if they granted her freedom. Most sentences are too harsh and these parole boards love acting like they are Kings or gods. They love it. Almost every correctional officer feels the same way about harsh sentences sentences also.

Giving these men outrageous sentences in Louisiana like 50 years for armed robbery or 60 years for drug sales and life without for any and all murder situations so that they end up dying in prison. Why? Because Angola Prison needs slave labor for their multi-million dollar industries like construction their farm or even their rodeo where inmates risk life and limb for the public's amusement. They only have to pay two cents an hour. There are also hella black men who have sitting in that prison for decades for crimes they didn't even commit.

It's called for profit big business,industrial prison complex and the continued oppression of black people and minority's. Only murderers , sexual predators, pedophiles, serial killers, proven terrorists the utterly unrehabitable should be locked up or the death penalty. If someone can rehabilitate or reform they should be given the chance even a murderer, depends on the circumstance. This system is a huge for profit expense for tax payers . And a long term societal expense, seems very archaic and inhumane.

@Anthony Smith your inability to communicate without insulting says everything about your age and mental condition. This rule violated not just the Second Amendment but the Fourth, because it deprived the affected people of a right without due process. The government does have the power to restrict and even deny gun ownership to people, but it has to show that these people have engaged in behavior that makes weapons dangerous in their hands. Denying a constitutional right because you can't balance your checkbook is tyrannical.

Lester Holt described Angola as a "former slave plantation." Wrong, Lester. Angola is still a slave plantation with many of the prisoners serving a life sentence. Just as if these prisoners were slaves for life working for their masters in a pre-Civil War plantation.
