About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

@haroldp.1724
@haroldp.1724 Рік тому
And, from comparison, comes jealousy and greed... But, greed itself seems sometimes to come from somewhere else too. Well, in the end, reources management et social organisation starts to be necessary and it is when wrong ideas / influences start to take place if people charged (or self-proclamed as so) start controlling things for their very benefits instead of the group of people they should take care... Later, people will say that some are more valuable than others instead of valuing everyone, as everyone is different and does bring something useful to life, even where people think or expect it the less... I tsop her to keep things short, there is so much to be said if gloing don into details. But, Yes, we are making things over-complicated and very often in a more destructive way than we should, because of this comparison / competition problem that resonates with selfichness.....

Inner happiness comes from conscious living and a true feeling of thankfulness for each breath of fresh air, even as you take it. Simplicity is the key of happiness. This man lives like that - and me too! I had a very so called “rich“ life for 38 years, but I understood: RICH IS NOT WHO OWNS EVERYTHING. RICH IS WHO DOESN'T NEED IT...! I collected companies, materialistic things, had stress and got sick. So I gave all up and changed my life to a simple one. Now, after 30 years, I live on a beautiful beach on a beautiful island in a warm country with warm hearted people, replanting my own food, getting eggs from my chickens, eating fishes from the sea, learned instruments to play autodidacticly, also painting, and live from playing saxophone in summertime some hours. I live mobile in a horse trailer, after travelling on a boat for many years, together with lots of stray cats and dogs and I'm very happy.

Sometimes I wish things were easier... I got alot of things in my life that I really really wanted but it was all so hard to get it... Two years ago (12 august) I moved away from my country to try a new life, completely alone... My first try my visa was denied. I tried another country and got it... then I had problems with my medical exams, after three months of waiting, I got the visa... Then I got a job, I applied for another type of visa and it was denied because I did not have this specific registration. I got the registration. I applied again and it was again denied because my pay rate was too low, I talked to my boss and he said "I can do nothing about it...". A month later when I was giving up and the dead line was coming up he changed his mind, gave me a raise and immigration accepted my application. I was really really happy, I had no one, no family, no friends, nobody to celebrate with, but it was honestly one of the happiest moments in my life. Everything I do seems to be always on the hard way, I feel happiness and self accomplishment about all I got till now, but everything is always sooo exaustive... I am relatively young and sometimes I think that everything will always be hard in my life. That feeling we have when we achieve something hard to get does not really make me feel that good because I know that what comes next will be another mission... I am greatful for everything and not complaining, but sometimes I wish I could do something to make things easier... Just saying... Thanks

What indirectly says is that the economical system we are working is not fair and is not in tune with how we used to live for the most of our history. What modern life did is cut our direct connection with the land and other people by dipending on the market. In the past our survival was depending on our direct relation to the land and other people which was called the tribe. So what he showed is that when he returned to that way of living he was working less and enjoying life more with less energy. The underlying question is why when you depend on the market you get a lot less for the same amount of work? My answer is that those that make the rules of the market get a lot more and someone has to lose. Those who lose are the working class and this truth was the argument for communism and we know how that project went. What he indirectly recommends is a return to our ancestors way of living.

I think some people are missing the point. I don't think he's saying everyone needs to physically build a house and grow your own food. What I do think he's expressing, is we need to stop trying to "keep up with the Joneses" and not let our society, fashion, peers or anyone else dictate to us how our lives should be lived. We get so caught up in this little ridiculous crap that we'll do things like work 12 hours a day at a job we hate, to come home to a place that has six bedrooms, marble bathrooms and a kitchen big enough to cook for a basketball team. And at the end of the day, it makes you miserable.

My advice is to have less sexually focused media, and increase the number of jobs which produce more than they destroy (large amounts of data are required to measure this accurately (obviously infinite data would be preferable but doesn't appear to be an option))

to do this in america, you would need a lot of money to buy land. you would need expensive equipment to plow the land. you would need to pay for water to grow plants. you are controlled by the amount of money you make instead of what creative things you can build. you are also controlled by the government, you have to apply for grants, apply for jobs, and you are forced to live a life serving other people so that you can one day host jobs for other people. it's much more than just capitalism. this is why so many people are depressed. no one wants to help unless they are paid to.

I find it is such a privilege to be in his position, with rich land, plenty of fresh water and ideal conditions for farming. If you are born penniless in a land with limited resources or natural disasters, there is not much you can do. Studying hard to be employed would be the best future one can have. Everybody talking about moving but it is never really an option. Land and water are resources too. Which countries would be so generous to share their resources with every outsider walking in? Sadly, the life he described is completely out of reach for many.

Thing is, if we all saw this as the truth and acted on it, we'd have to change a lot of things. Like, we would have to stop buying in to the lies we're told. We'd have to take responsibility for ourselves and those around us. It doesn't cost anything to simplify, and the more people do it, the less the system can have ahold of us all. We need to go back to the kitchen garden, to home cooked meals, to the mending pile.

I agree with his basic premise that life doesn’t need to be made more complicated. At the same time I would not recommend not educating ourselves in a structured way. He can speak English and write books precisely because of and thanks to education… In my opinion, his most important message is that we need to reconnect with ourselves and the Earth, and I couldn’t agree more.

I genuinely love this man. Been watching him for years now and I like to revisit speeches of his from time to time. One of the main takeaways here is that modern industrial and now technological society abstracts people from self reliance and turns the masses into a commodity via interest on debt. Market growth depends on people hiring others to do everything for you. The example of the house really makes that latter point. We have been conditioned to think we cannot do these things which creates a market and markets create debt and the wealthy make money off interest. It's a terrible way to live. The human spirit has been crushed by our modern industrial, technological society. The spirit is crushed so the wealthy intellectual saviors can rescue the "poor" with their offer of indentured servitude served up with an illusion of freedom

I can relate to what Jon Jandai is talking about here. I grew up in the countryside with so much peace and then had to move to a city. Living with a relative, I was told to hate myself. In the countryside, I would walk miles on foot. Getting to the city, I tried it for a while but the environment was so unfriendly. Today, I am trying to get back to the countryside life. Give back to a community that moulded me. I am even writing a book about it. Technology has helped in some ways but it is also contributing to making life more difficult and hard to comprehend. We need a balance.

When you live a lie since the day you are born that becames essencially the truth. To see things from a different perspective is hard but from the moment you start to question all the modern dogmas and social habits, consumism, etc you understand the simple truth. Study and learn what you like, respect all the living forms and the planet, bring a meaning to your work and smile everyday. Try to be the best yourself, not better than the neighbour. Never work only to buy stuff and enjoy and be gratefull for what you have now.

OMG. In the western culture, all they teach you is, since I set foot in this country: you're a sinner. Everything is your fault. If you get angry, you're a bad person. If you get depressed, deal with it. Get a therapist, who can never solve anything, then take meds. They are the reason this country is broken. Corrupt people. They don't value people. They want robots to take over. The Western culture is actually pretty twisted.
