I’m 6’7” 300 lbs and a side sleeper. This pad is, without a doubt, the best sleeping pad I’ve ever used. Being a side sleeper, I always wake up with hip and knee pain. With this pad, not even a twinge. It is the best sleep camping I’ve ever had. I would absolutely recommend this to anybody. Even being 7 inches longer than the pad itself, it’s thick enough to support my body but thin enough to where my feet aren’t dangling off the edge but they lay on the ground (which is no issue). Thank you, Luke, for this recommendation!

I'm really glad to see this comment. I've got one on the way, I'm 6'5" 280 lbs, and wasn't sure how well this worked for us denser guys.
@Gomer216
@Gomer216 27 днів тому
@@shekelsean Be careful with it though. I popped a hole on mine on a very small twig. I’m going to patch it but I’m going to start putting a ground protector under it. Although it lasted me 4 years of camping before I did so it’s definitely worth the money.

@@Gomer216 Good to know, I'll more than likely be keeping this in somewhat tame conditions, though. I'm primarily a hammock camper, so I should be safe from twigs

Nice review Luke. I bought the un-insulated version probably two years ago now. It's still rocking today, no leaks. I really like it for the size and weight. My only gripe is that I'm a belly and size sleeper, and on my side I don't get enough cushion and my collarbones hurt after a day or two. Also, like you said, it works best went not fully aired up.

I've had the static-v for years, and it's the best. In the army, I'm always looking for lightweight comfort. One thing I wish they did however, was to add some rubber on the bottom so that the mat doesn't slip away on a cot or tarp surface.

maybe spray it with some flex seal? should adhere and add a bit of rubbery grip to it.

Love the new camo colors (short for forest-friendly colors): I have been using the old bright red Insulated Static V for three years, purchased for its great value. It's more comfortable than some thicker more expensive pads I have purchased. It is very durable as I have floated across remote lakes and pitched it directly on the ground with no protection. Just recently the valve has been getting a little quirky, but I bet a drop of oil would make it get well, and I bet if I wrote Klymit a letter, that a replacement might be sent--maybe even a camo one if Klymit is really nice to me. And in conclusion: the bright red orange was it's largest weak point, now corrected with options. Specd at 23" The Klymit does measure larger than most 20" common sleeping pads, but not as large as my new Exped 25" mummy, which works great in my hammock, deflecting hammock material slightly further away from my arms (pertaining to cold). And the mummy shape keeps the air where it needs to be when used in a hammock. Another side note: Klymit has a shorter version for ultralight gear or people who only need protect the torso. I believe there may be camo options as well. THANKS FOR ALL OF THE GREAT KNOWLEDGE AND ADVICE. WE APPRECIATE YOUR TIME. HAPPY TRAILS!

I added a Insulated Static V to my hiking load out over a year ago. The insulated version is quite a bit heavier then the regular one, but when its a cool fall night on the trails, its worth every ounce. And comfort wise, its the like a pillow top mattress after a long day of hiking.

I have a new pillow top on my mattress at home too, though I don't like my Static V-Luxe uninsulated on the carpet or floor to test here at home. I think the insulated ones will help with some warmth. Mine just arrived today. I will try it in a hammock. I'm sure it will be okay in that.

I had been looking for a new sleeping pad, had been using a foam pad. I ended up buying the static V after watching your review, you did one thing almost no one else has done when reviewing it that sold me... turning on your side and seeing if your hip hits the ground. That's what sold me on the static V. They have them at the Sportsman's Warehouse in Roanoke for around $60, it's the non-insulated though.. works fine for this time of year.

I own the Klymit Static V Insulated pad as well -- love it. Can't imagine owning another brand sleeping pad, tbqh. My pad is the 25oz version, so YMMV. With regard to the Klymit Static V Insulated pad, I have used it in "ice box" shelters on the AT in early February, which were places so cold my boots would have to be warmed because the material had frozen during the course of the night. The pad kept me perfectly warm, and in a somewhat less than perfect sleeping bag. The only problem I ever encounter is if I put too much air in the pad, it tends to hurt my hip when laying sideways, but letting a bit of air out solves that problem. Great video as always. - Phil

Hey Luke, glad you reviewed this pad. I jumped on the first sale on Massdrop and got the insulated version too. I totally agree, this pad rocks for the price! It's the neoair killer! Every one be aware, this is not the standard Static V model, it's a narrower 20" model made of lighter material too, this is what makes it so light. It is very comfortable even when side sleeping, your hips will not bottom out. I am a huge fan of this pad, they nailed it on price, comfort and weight. They are back on Massdrop now and I highly recommend it if you are looking for an ultrlight pad.

I use the Klymit V Luxe in my hammock. It's very wide and the side baffles fold in a little and keeps u on the pad. This is the ideal hammockers pad also because the v-baffles conform to the shape of the hammock. I have an expensive underquilt but prefer the V Luxe pad because it is so comfortable.

Luke, thanks for the great review. I have never heard of Massdrop which has now been renamed Drop. As I was looking into this I have read reviews that yes you can get the product cheaper than normal but you have a long wait time and the shipping takes 3+ weeks to receive and many have said that they have not recieved their products and have a difficult time getting in touch with the people from Drop or the manufacturer. This being said I know that not only you but many of your viewers are huge on customer service. Using Drop to save some money and waiting for a extended time to maybe receive your product you might be better off biting the bullet and spending a bit more and being sure of getting your product and in a timely fashion than dealing with the hassel of making calls and emails trying to chase your purchase down. Just my thoughts. Take care and God bless.

I have used the Static V ultra light for a year or so. I am 6 foot 5 and 250lbs. I have Marfans Syndrome, a genetic condition that effects my joints and spine, amongst other things My original has been the most comfortable nights sleep outdoors for me, ever. It has allowed me to contnue overnighting outdoors when I was seriously considering quitting. I have used with tents, hammocks and just bivvy bagging and my purchase was my top buy of the last decade....hideous colour though! Prefer the new darker tone green. One of the features I like is that you and it stay put. Bivvyed on a steep beach with a friend recently and woke up, after a lot of whisky, to find myself on my pad whilst he had slid off his and gone 10 feet down slope It's been so good that I have purchased the insulated in the recent drop and I am expecting delivery this week. I need an upgrade on a sleeping bag or duvet. Any suggestions please Luke, really enjoy your channel. Long may your adventures continue.

Bought one based on this review. I set it up in my backyard and immediately bought a second one for the girlfriend. We have found that when using a quality sleeping bag you don't even notice the V baffles and like Luke says, you can let alittle air out and that helps reduce the rigidity of the baffles. Since buying these I have given away my thermarest pad to friend.

I love the klymit pad it is the most comfortable pad I have ever used. I am a big guy 6 foot 250 pounds so I have the XL klymit insulated pad. The coldest I have gone with it was 29 f . And I had no problems with the cold from the ground. But the best part is if you are a side sleeper like me you do not hit the ground once you move on your side. Spent a whole week in mammoth on this pad with no issues whatsoever. But if you are a big person get the XL version yeah it weighs more but would you rather have a horrible night of sleep. For me it is a no brainier klymit all the way!!!!!.

I'm 6'3" shit my younger sister is 5'11" The R value is important in my opinion for my daughter. I have two Wide long sleeping pads, one for winter =2.2 lbs at $199.00, one for 3 season = 1.1 lbs at$129.00 and I don't have to tell you which one I carried or which one I slept on... 1.1 lbs lighter :-)

A lot of these pads had faulty valves and leaked badly. Mine certainly did. However, there is a way of fixing them with a dab of superglue (there are some videos of the method on UKposts). I did this and it hasn't leaked since. It is a very comfortable pad for its size and well made (except for some valves).

Great review Luke, I checked out the website and there's def a lot of good stuff. And the shipping to Canada is really good, now with that being said I have a question. Can you suggest some free standing tents at a reasonable price. taking in account of the currency conversion, In Yellowknife Canada we have lots of rock and sand it's a sub arctic environment to be sure, surrounded by millions and millions of hectares of boreal forest. The problem is a lot of places you want to camp are rock and you aren't going to be able to drive pegs into the ground. At the camp grounds they had to build pads for the tents... Thanks in advance

Great review. I beat you to it and bought the bigger and wider version of Klymit with the same R value.... in cameo... ohhhhhhh!. Important fact ..... The stank from your breath will cause mold to infect the baffles and ruin their R value. At the time Klymit didn't have a light hand pump so I ended up making my own bastardized system from 3 different companies to create a lightweight hand bellow pump. Something you could look into for a future video.

Comparing this to the insulated"lite", looks like the 3 oz saving comes from a narrower width, and 20d vs 30d polyester. The "lite" version is 72 * 23 * 2.5 vs 72 * 20 * 2.5 of this. The regular insulated is 75d polyester but weighs ~ 8oz more. (half a pound)

Luke you should try out the TNH outdoors dual chamber sleeping pad. Looks just like my buddies klymit but a little more heavy duty & has two chambers so if you get a hole in one you still have the other half that's inflated. 2.5 r value

I'm gonna purchase one for sure it'll go great with my bug out bag / camping bag. I like cheap things that are decent I don't know if you mentioned it is it made here in the US? And as always great job.

I've used massdrop for a little over a year. The biggest problem with massdrop is the shipping time. Their discounts are great but if you shop around you can find similar or better prices sometimes. It takes 3-5 weeks and that's a lot of time to wait on an item you're paying 100$+ for. Personally I use massdrop more like a catalog to browse items and then just purchase separately from Amazon, optics planet, ect. It is worth to mention the discounts sometime are unbeatable, just keep in mind the shipping times. Great review btw just wanted to give a disclaimer to massdrop.

Can you do a review of the Exped Synmat 12LXW. Absolute monster of a mat, and would like to know what you think of it.

I don't know if they still do this, but I once had Klymit make a 3/4 or torso pad from one of their products for me; they even gave me the remains with its own inflation valve XD

I own both the original Static V and the lighter weight V2. I personally had good sleep on them, even if it is a bit thinner than other pads. The biggest cons I've seen mentioned in reviews is the over-exaggerated R-value they list, and the fact that the gaps in between the inflated baffles offer no insulation at all. I would say these are good 3-season pads, especially for the price, but I wouldn't trust their listed R-values if I were to choose a pad for winter.

BEWARE- The product link provided in this video relates to a different Sleeping Pad, namely, the UNINSULATED version. A small but important piece of information I think, as both products look similar!

Was it more comfortable than most to sleep on? I have a bad back and need extra cushion but for an upcoming trip I need to pack light. Is this good for that, or do you have any recommendations?

I actually replaced my Thermorest with Static V. Luke is right the Static is way lighter, More compact, cheaper, and just as comfortable.

Just ordered the insulated one and the pillow. You should mention 'free shipping' I paid less for the pad with the pillow for the price of just the pad on Amazon. thanks

I'm thinking of buying Klymit static V luxe (insulated, r-value 4.4, the same as this one). Whats the lowest temperature it can withstand without me feeling the cold from the ground?
