Love to see new shooters taking their time and completing the stage safely! Kudos to the RSO / timer for giving the gentle reminders and providing some guidance as the stage progressed. I miss shooting cowboy action here in Ontario, Canada and have many fond memories of my time in this discipline.

Nah. If that guy was telling me to keep the muzzle down range, i would have told him, no shit. Of course you keep the muzzle facing down range, it's common sense safety.

No. Shooters basically compete within a category. Categories vary by age, shooting style (one handed, two handed, or gun in each hand), and powder (smokeless versus black powder). Those are broken down even more to some extent. There are a lot of categories! Plus the overall male and female winners are recognized. Most of these competitions are monthly club matches so there are no prizes, it's just fun regardless of speed or placement.
