My mom died on 10/13/1977. We buried her in TN on 10/20/77, the next morning I heard about the plane crash. When we got back home my best friend had bought me this album (in the flames), and tickets to their next concert. By far my worst week ever. That smell, was my fav on the album, but I still get chocked up listening to I never dreamed. I really wanted that woman to come back home! The concert was Frampton, J. Geils, and Steve Miller. Good, but I really wanted LS. The albums not worth as much as people think (I wouldn't sell it anyway). Now I'm 62 years young, and nobody could replace my mom, or Skynyrd. Don't blame Ronnie's wife and brother for the tribute band. Younger gens get to see them. There will never be another Lynyrd Skynyrd!!!

@randyhibbs2491Рік тому
@@psychoholiday-ju1cp You have great taste in music. Skynyrd's music will never die. I saw new Skynyrd twice in Nasville. Rickey Medlock (guitar player) played drums with original band demos before the first record. If that plane didn't crash, they would have been best ever (still are to me). They got Steve Gaines to play 3rd guitar after Ed King left. They were just about to peak. You can watch the old band on you tube. I recommend live at Knebworth 1976. Also, One More From The Road remastered 2CD set from 1976, best live album ever recorded. Sorry I went on, but love talking about Skynyrd.

But, Gary was my favorite, such soulful, bluesy, whip cracking rock delivery. I felt the he was the center of the music, everyone else revolving around him with musical finesse. “That Smell” (1977) - penned by Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins - is about guitarist Gary Rossington, who bought an automobile, got drunk and crashed into a tree, then a house (“Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars / Oak tree you’re in my way”). Lynyrd Skynyrd were supposed to start a tour in a few days, but they had to postpone it because of Rossington’s injuries. The drunk driver was fined $ 5,000* for holding up the tour. His drug and alcohol problems were badly affecting the group. Sadly, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines were killed in a plane crash a few days after Lynyrd Skynyrd’s 1977 tour started. Eerily, some lyrics in “That Smell” refer to death, and the album cover (which had just been released) showed the musicians enveloped in 🔥 flame. 💙❕💜 May you rest in peace, Ronald Wayne Van Zant (1948 - 1977)… 🌹… Steven Earl Gaines (1949 - 1977)… 🌹… and Cassie LaRue Gaines (1948 - 1977)… 🌹 * Those $ 5,000 in 1977 would be worth about $ 25,000 in 2023‼️
