I won't go as far as to say this is the best song ever written. However, I believe it is ONE of the best songs ever written. And it is certainly MY favorite song of all time. I told my daughters to bury me to this one. Ronnie Van Zant, just nobody could match his songwriting. He and Allen Collins wrote this, but somehow I really think of Gary Rossington when I hear it. I guess it's Gary's soulful solos, just beautiful. Ronnie was a genius, the way he told the story of leaving his woman, and her needing to be free, around his actual divorce (which happened on a Tuesday). Using Tuesday as a metaphor.... This 22 year old kid came up with this! Just absolutely incredible. RIP to all of the incredible musicians that made up the most incredible band ever, the mighty Lynyrd Skynyrd band.

The melody on this song is incredibly good, one of the best songs I know. Especially the piano playing from around 3:20, and especially when the second playing from 3:55 kicks in. Absolutely magically good. These guys could make good music, good melodies and good lyrics.
@WorshipGuitarist4life17Рік тому
I loooove the piano solo and guitar 🎸
@davidbrathen2268Рік тому
@@WorshipGuitarist4life17 Yes, billy powell played incredibly well there. Something special with exactly that playing and that transition. Never gets bored, is just as magically good every time....

When you hear people say "they dont make them like they used to". This is what they mean. This is real music. Hell of a guitar, hell of a voice, hell of a song, and one hell of a band. RIP Lynard Skynard.

My pet hamster was my best friend and we would always listen to this song together. He didn’t talk much. Only when I took those mushrooms would he tell me how he really feels. One day he couldn’t take his life anymore and shot himself. He will be missed.

Rest in peace Gary. So long and thanks for all the good vibes man. This and Simple Man are my favourite Skynyrd songs. I'm sure you guys have yours and you'd get no argument from me. They were a very special band, reached a lot of people.

Definitely one of the best songs in the entire Southern Rock genre. Of course, the guitar work is epic and beautifully understated, as are Johnny's vocals, but I am especially impressed with Billy Powell's piano in this. Coming from a Georgia good ol' boy, I have to say if we knew how crappy music would become today, we would have appreciated it more then. We were spoiled, however. There was amazing music everywhere all the time! All good wishes.

I agree with ya on this comment . Been listening to skynyrd for about 45 years now . I also found a young lady I enjoy just as much , who does duets with her sister from time to time , I hope you will check out Ms Lucy Thomas on youtube , it's a different style of music but very comfortable to listen to as well .. Thanks from Jax Fl ..

Remembering Ronnie Zant born on January 15, 1948. He was an American singer, best known as the original lead vocalist, primary lyricist and a founding member of the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band's rise to prominence began in 1973 with the release of their debut album, (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd), which had a string of hits that included "I Ain't the One", "Tuesday's Gone", "Gimme Three Steps", "Simple Man", and what became their signature, "Free Bird", later dedicated to the late Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers Band. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_Van_Zant

It’s really weird when you go to Macon and stand in front of Gregg and Duane, and Berry’s grave. So much talent gone. Love me southern rock. Born and bred a southern boy.
