Only the mad survive. 2015.
/ madmaxmovie
From director George Miller, originator of the post-apocalyptic genre and mastermind behind the legendary “Mad Max” franchise, comes “Mad Max: Fury Road,” a return to the world of the Road Warrior, Max Rockatansky.
Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
Tom Hardy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) stars in the title role in “Mad Max: Fury Road”-the fourth in the franchise’s history. Oscar winner Charlize Theron (“Monster,” “Prometheus”) stars as the Imperator, Furiosa. The film also stars Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”) as Nux; Hugh Keays-Byrne (“Mad Max,” “Sleeping Beauty”) as Immortan Joe; and Nathan Jones (“Conan the Barbarian”) as Rictus Erectus. Collectively known as The Wives, Zoë Kravitz (“Divergent”) plays Toast, Riley Keough (“Magic Mike”) is Capable, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”) is Splendid, and supermodel Abbey Lee is The Dag, and Courtney Eaton is Fragile. Also featured in the movie are Josh Helman as Slit, Jennifer Hagan as Miss Giddy, and singer/songwriter/performer iOTA as Coma-Doof Warrior.
The cast is rounded out by well-known Australian actors John Howard and Richard Carter, supermodel Megan Gale, Angus Sampson, Joy Smithers, Gillian Jones, Melissa Jaffer and Melita Jurisic.
Oscar-winning filmmaker George Miller (“Happy Feet”) is directing the film from a screenplay he wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris. Miller is also producing the film, along with longtime producing partner, Oscar nominee Doug Mitchell (“Babe”, “Happy Feet”), and P.J. Voeten. Iain Smith, Graham Burke and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers.
The behind-the-scenes creative team includes Oscar-winning director of photography John Seale (“The English Patient”), production designer Colin Gibson (“Babe”), editor Margaret Sixel (“Happy Feet”), Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (“A Room with a View”), action unit director and stunt coordinator Guy Norris (“Australia”), and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt (“Knowing”).
Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Kennedy Miller Mitchell production, a George Miller film, “Mad Max: Fury Road.” The film is scheduled for release on May 15, 2015, and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

To this day this remains the greatest film trailer ever made. Your pulse pounds to the sound of the engines and gunfire. You can taste the blood and tears in your mouth. You can smell diesel oil, gunpowder, sweat and hot metal. I never thought the film could live up to this trailer. I was glad to be proved wrong, but I still come back to this trailer just to bask in its incredible rhythm.

Obviously it could. It was George effin Miller, OG MAD MAX/Road Warrior writer and director and also he created one of the most insane yet not well known, violent movie that was set in a crazy, mad world that makes Max's world look like Sesame Street! That movie he directed cemented him as a director who can capture chaos, human insanity and damage more so than ALL of his MAD MAX movies combined! That movie was called "Babe" Anyone who can make the movie Babe,. well he can make anything that can cause grown men quake in fear.

loetzfan Mark my WORDS. He will not have killed that lizard. I bet the headphones he has on are to listen to the sounds of the earth....vibrations from other cars. He can hear the lizard crawling on the earth. He stomps his foot down yes but I bet it's just short of squashing the poor little fella. He probably looks at the lizards, smiles, has a good moment. Then comes the sound of cars, the smile disappears replaced with dread and fear. This seems to take place at the start of the film. It's a way to tell the audience that Max is in fact normal...if a bit MAD!!! Nice comment though!!!

I will never forget the first time I saw this trailer. I remember arguing with people for years if the new Mad Max would be any good without Mel Gibson. I always felt that it was more important to have the original creator George Miller involved. So when I heard the new Mad Max trailer dropped, I thought to myself "I bet this is gonna look pretty good" That was an understatement.

Let this movie be a lesson to a generation raised on Marvel movies: Computer-generated imagery will never be as good as real stunt work and real physical effects. This was one of the greatest action movies I've ever seen. It is completely worthy of the hype.
@haltopen12
@haltopen12 9 років тому
Guigley If your going to shit on a movie for its use of CGI, then shit on a movie with shitty CGI. CGI isn't inherently bad, its massively overused.
@jp3813
@jp3813 9 років тому
Guigley You obviously haven't seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was praised for its impressive stunt work. Also, the first Iron Man was one of the last films that Stan Winston worked on. The man who made Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park timeless w/ his practical effects instead of their CGI. Put the blame on George Lucas and Michael Bay, not Marvel. The best filmmakers are the ones that can use both practical and CGI effects seamlessly. Hell, many mecha/kaiju fans consider Pacific Rim as one of the best of the genre due to its exciting and imaginative use of CGI. Meanwhile, most traditional action movies of the past decade and a half have been crap.
@Guigley
@Guigley 9 років тому
haltopen12 That's the problem. We've reached a point where, no matter how good it is and how many talented artists worked on it, we know that it's CGI. The thrill of watching CGI is not what it was ten or twenty years ago. CGI is at its best when it enhances what's already been filmed ("Jurassic Park" remains the gold standard of this, in my opinion). Of course there are exceptions. So yes, I agree with you. But that doesn't change my opinion that practical effects and real live stunts will always be better. We need to get back to blockbuster filmmaking that uses CGI to enhance the thrill, not be the thrill.
@Guigley
@Guigley 9 років тому
***** I've seen every Marvel film except the newest "Avengers," and almost all of them I forgot about the minute I walked out of the theater. "Iron Man" and the original "Spider-man" trilogy are the only ones I like. I won't go into my opinions about Marvel, or else we'd be here forever. And you're right, Michael Bay and George Lucas aren't without fault, but that's another story. My point is that we need to get back to the era where CGI was used to enhance the thrills, not be the thrills ("Jurassic Park" remains the gold standard of this, in my opinion). There's plenty of good films that use a lot of CGI (like "Pacific Rim"), but they are few and far between. And CGI isn't the only problem with modern action films. The way they're shot is also annoying beyond belief. Hyper-edited hand-held camera work is the norm for action, and it's horrible. In "Max," Miller actually holds on a shot so we can see what's happening. His shots last longer than one second. When I watch an action movie, I want to see the action as opposed to trying to figure out what's going on and not be thrilled as a result. Miller used this new film to remind the film world how an action movie needs to be made: 1) hold on a shot, and 2) use CGI only when needed. In short, we need more more films like "Mad Max: Fury Road."
@jp3813
@jp3813 9 років тому
Guigley Right, but we also need to understand that certain movies simply cannot be made convincingly without heavy CGI such as The Avengers films due to the collection of characters like the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, etc.... Marvel Studios still does practical effects whenever they can especially w/ Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, etc... But there's no excuse for instantly dated effects such as a CGI Peter Parker in the very first Spidey film (which was Sony's production, not Marvel's) just to show him climbing walls and jumping across rooftops. That's what stuntmen are for.

The thing about the original Mad Max movies that was so great was that they used real cars to stage real awesome and insane stunts. This movie looks like a bunch of CGI, which I usually don't have a problem with, but when it comes to car chases, they should do it old school. Whether I see this or not depends on whether or not they don't use CGI car chases and stunts.
@UnfaithfulServant97
@UnfaithfulServant97 9 років тому
From what I've read the car chase scenes and their destruction will be all pratical effects, and the CGI scenes will only be utilized for the backgrounds(like the huge dust storm) and dust storm scene itself, so don't worry too much:)

Love the CRUNCH & GRIND of the trailer's soundtrack. George Miller so masterfully frames such gut-wrenching action sequences that they take on a brutal grace that is captivating and actually quite beautiful to watch. One of the few filmakers out there who understands how to frame motion. The last half hour-ish of 'The Road Warrior/Mad Max 2" is a great example of an action sequence/climax that most filmakers couldn't conceive, much less realize and render to the screen in such an unforgettably bombastic fashion. I wonder if Mr. Miller would be keen on putting some of Masamune Shirow's work to the silver screen, as I think He is th only one I know that could well translate the kinetic energy of Shirow's drawings. Somebody probably already has plans to nerf 'Ghost in the Shell', but 'Dominion Tank Police' or even 'Appleseed' in the hands of George Miller would be wild to see. However, I'm very glad to see that some filmakers still play to their strengths and not try to make all movies for all people. I will be very happy to see more of this world that George has ben slow cooking over the years. This new film. 'Mad Max: Fury Road'...may not be for everyone. Yet, that is what makes these movies so great. Just mi2cent, anyway.
@jordanmcdonald1181
@jordanmcdonald1181 9 років тому
There come times in movie history where a genre defining film is created, something so magnificent and grand that it forever affects the films of the future. Mad Max: Fury Road is a film that your grandchildren will ask if you saw it in theaters, and those of us who did will be proud to tell our children "yes." The movie begins with picking the audience up and placing them in the universe of Mad Max: where packs of roving guzzoline seeking bandits and psychopaths dwell, killing all who oppose them, and where two headed, irradiated lizards are eaten raw without a second thought. The sheer deadness of the world is gorgeous, and the fact that they use very little CGI brings it home. When the audience sees the stunts, cars flipping, exploding, stuntmen being thrown from them as they careen into canyon walls, they see real people and vehicles. Too often has a overly digital set and stunts made an action movie a sterile pool of disgusting brackish water, and bland characters who are either immortal or unlikable only add to it. Yet, Mad Max is the opposite: Max and Furiosa are very mortal, and their peril is real. Max is strapped to the front of a car and driven around the desert while being used as a blood bag, and Furiosa comes quite near death on several occasions. The enemies are made human by the addition of Nux, a War Boy who joins the protagonists, and only serves the Big Bad due to a religious devotion instilled in him by brainwashing. The Five Wives are very human, and compelling, given varied personalities. The movie, despite being an action packed thrill ride, makes time for subtle character development along the way. And this movie is truly a nonstop action scene. Perhaps fifteen minutes of its almost two hour stretch were slow, and its constant adrenaline rush makes one near mad. Every single bit of it is George Miller's genius, and it is truly unusual in the times of shallow plots and characters in action, where stunts are fake and blows softened by the cutting of a camera. Watch this movie.

First movie of the action genre to ever deliver completely on its promise. After seeing it all I knew was it was a good movie, I didn't know if I loved it, hated it, my mind was blown. Words literally failed me. I guess I was in shock, a movie actually delivered what I wanted and all I knew was I saw something amazing that I wasn't quite ready to comprehend. Saw it in 3d close to the screen so that it filled all of my vision in an empty theater.

IvanKGB935 Mad Max Wiki (if that's even a reliable source) says it takes place shortly after Thunderdome. Other sources I've read also says this is a "new interpretation" of the MM world which sound like nothing more than a massive deus ex machina to get away with picking and choosing all the good bits that will draw in the average movie goer while seemingly scoffing at the continuity of the series. The fact that Miller made this still has me interested to a point, but I still think it's going to stink in the same fashion that Episode 1-3 of Star Wars and so many other "reboots" have done previously.

When I saw "Road Warrior" as it was released in the states in 1981, I was mesmerized by what I was watching, and I never tire of going back to both Mad Max films. Just hoping this new installment doesn't disappoint: not-stop action does not an epic make. I hope Miller has developed his characters well, just like he did some 34 years ago with the "Aaa-ah-tohla of Rock-and-rolla" and everyone on down; if he has, I might be willing to see it in the theatre a few times.

I knew this movie would be good because Tom Hardy was in it. He's a really interesting guy, he was really good in Bronson and Locke. If you ever look up quotes from him you can tell he's a really intense and passionate person. I totally believe the rumor that Charlize Theron was afraid of him during the shoot. The Esquire interview with him might have embellished his eccentricity, but it's still there, and that's what makes him such an energetic personality.
