Life is truly stranger than art. If I saw a movie about an 86 year old mafia mastermind grandma who’s too dangerous to be taken off house arrest I’d find it far-fetched!

Speaking about her nonna giving her relatives ‘cleaner’ drugs is heartbreaking :’( most of us could really never understand what it’s like to be in that position, and we’re lucky to not understand!

this just shows that no matter how glamorous it may look, it will always end with prison or murder. how do you go from earning millions per month to eating prison beans.

Shes a real one. Strong, independent woman. Very very head strong to have this life and sit there and talk about it open and honestly.

This was a very impactful account, by Marissa. The fact she changed her life around, despite all the odds being against her is something more people need to hear. It is possible to reinvent yourself and still be the same person, whilst understanding that there’s right and wrong. I totally understood the points she raised as things being ‘normal’ to her. She was a child, she grew up in that environment, she had to learn to see from a different perspective. I admire that in a person. Well done Marissa and thank you for sharing your story xxx

Honestly never knew 'Ndrangheta were active in the UK. It takes balls to speak about this life because she's basically dead woman walking, I really hope she stays safe and has a happy life, she's a good egg. Just a woman who wanted her dad back. Also the way her voice quietened when she started discussing the drugs shipments, habit I guess! Also surprised people are saying "this video shows it's not glamerous and you're fucked if you do this" - as an Italian from Rome I think TV shows have done that well enough. It's an oath for life there is no out you got a target on your back for your whole life and are forced into crime, it's not worth it.

That's a whole other strength to be able to reinvent yourself. I still wish the world for 🤗 may she find success on this new better journey

There's nothing glamorous about crime, ignore the images that people try and show you what it's like as that's all smoke and mirrors. The reality is you end up curtain twitching and constantly waiting for your front door to go through. There's no price now in my life that I would sell my peace of mind for.

When she talks about longing to be with her aunties, uncles and cousins, I felt that. My husband is from a super small immediate family with no cousins and one auntie. I am from a large immediate family, my mom was one of 8 and my dad was one of 3. My dad was married 3 times and I am the second youngest of his 11 children (6 bio, 5 step children) I absolutely love being with my cousins and aunties and uncles, and my nieces and nephews.

That's amazing a chef 👨‍🍳 in Italy 🇮🇹 ❤ well godspeed and to drop that life and chose to stop putting bad into the world is a good cause

This was a great interview, but I do think some of what she said was a little disingenuous. Does she think her hands are clean? Indirectly, she is responsible for who knows how many deaths? I'm glad she is out of it and that she has a better life, but I think she has side stepped a lot of possibly unpalatable truths.

Sometimes you have to let your children fail. I sure as he'll wouldn't give my children drugs just bc they were addicted. But a lot of families choose to, just to keep their children at home safe. Sometimes it works and others times you become a drug lord xD her experience is valid and honestly I'm not mad bc I feel like anyone could fall into that way of life. Especially when you have a woman wanting to hold onto family that strongly.

slightly off topic, but i am jealous of how she describes her italian family. she's right-we simply don't have that broad sense of family community over here. i wish we did. i had a singaporean landlady once. we got onto the topic of family. she said she didn't understand the way we are over here. how we want to get away from our parents as soon as possible. how, when our parents are old, we don't have them come live with us (or indeed remain with us if we're already all together). i'm sure it does happen in the UK. but it's certainly not the culture.

Horrible world. Not worth the risks

Always hilarious to see how women get sentenced. She was an integral part of the "operation" and even ran the whole thing at some point (at least that's what she claims) and she gets away with 6 years of which she probably only served like 4 or 5. Where is the deterrent in that? You just basically get away with it
