There are different membership categories -actor/actress, director, editor, scriptwriter, etc. - they vote in their own categories. Basically, all awards are biased, your pick of who deserves to be the winner is probably going to be different from somebody's. I never take them seriously.

Nothing against Cate but appearing too enthusiastic to lose can make people think you'rea fake too. So, to each their own, perfectly understandable for some to appear reserved e.g. Ellen page in the same clip. By the way, it's much easier to be wholeheartedly happy like Cate since she was not racing to win. If Julie Christie did the same thing, I'd doubt people would say she's classy.

We only knew her for her role in one movie : "Taxi" (New York Taxi with Queen Latifah is actually the American adaptation of that movie). And even in that movie she had a very tiny role she was the girlfriend of the main character. After that movie (that frist came out in 1998) she completely disappeared. We knew nothing about her until she popped out of nowhere with this role in "La Vie En Rose" & won an Oscar for it. This is a true & sincere success story, tbh we ourselves didn't expect her to go this far.
