Some believe Mars is calling humanity to our next home. But the real “red planet” is a trickster, strikingly beautiful yet sweetly sinister. Even as a growing armada of instruments arrives, this small cold world continues to conceal its secrets. Settlers beware; Mars may not be what you imagine. The technological means to cross space and bring this small world back to life is just now coming within our grasp. But Mars is likely to change Humanity as much as we change it.

It would honestly prob be easier to make mars habitable since we have destroyed so much of this earth with things like oil spills, nuclear waste leakage, nuclear bomb tests, pollution, creation and misuse of dangerous chemicals, etc. we have hurt our home so badly, most likely beyond repair. @@sunnycalvin22 People often over-exaggerate their opinions on youtube videos. They are mostly people who don't really know much about the subject, sadly they get satisfied with low-level things. They just enjoying the video, thinking how much knowledge they can get from it. You know, they are the mass, who believe everything they hear and see from the news. I don't want to claim that Jeffrey, the commenter is such a person, but statistically he is. If you take a look over the comment section, most of the comments look like this: "Great, cool, this is the BEST thing I've ever watched, I enjoyed it pretty much, you're the BEST quality content maker, thanks, blah-blah-blah..." It's fine, at least they leave a positive comment on the vid, and feel somewhat better after watching it. But when someone who knows more things about the subject of the video, usually he or she can make a difference between cheap, low-level stuff and real quality content. Sometimes they pick on the wrongly explained things or the overlooked parts. Some of them can get upset on videos that were made only for making easy money for the uploaders, or on videos that just simply say bullshit about the subject. And when someone who know more about the subject and writes in a comment why the video is a piece of crap or a simple lie, some of the easily affected viewers can get their opinions changed. It makes youtube to make less money out of the annoying advertisements, and sometimes they can't force the masses to do what the customer of youtube wants people to do. This is why youtube has taken away the dislike counter, and also this is why youtube now employs "fact checkers", or censors. By employing them and preparing the algorithm to get activated to certain words or expressions, they can make more money out of the viewers, and they can manipulate people much easier. So if you have a different opinion, you can write it down in some cases, but in some other cases your comment will be deleted, and it doesn't matter if you cursed or not. Sorry for writing a novel, best wishes.

Great Vid, Thanks. 🙂 I have often wondered why there is not some speculative interest in getting some of the nearby asteroids to crash into Mars. This would bring 3 things at least, heat from the impact, more bulk to the planet, and water. I note that there is now talk of deflecting asteroids away from earth. I would think it would be the same process, perhaps even easier, to deflect something towards a planet. If we are going to do this, we should obviously think about it before we get a lot of people and infrastructure on the surface.

I read a visionary book in the late '70s titled; "Terraforming" by Ben Bova, who proposed directing a certain-sized asteroid into an opposing collision with Mars, thus creating a 40 mile deep crater that would permit an atmospheric pressure high enough to allow liquid water to be stable. We don't need to do the whole planet.
@bannapwns
@bannapwns Рік тому
@@psycotria From basic information I gathered after reading this, there are already craters up to like 50x that size on Mars and thousands of others that size (~40mi) or larger, so why would a newer crater be more viable? Plus then doesn't it still leave the issues of solar & cosmic radiation and -81 degree F average temperature? Cause would the impact not bring forth an impact winter therein decreasing the temperature? Obviously, I'm aware that you're likely not an expert on the subject and were just relaying information that you read, but I'm just curious and wondering if you(or anyone else) had any insight to that :D

On a planet with an abundance of carbon dioxide in it’s atmosphere wouldn’t we be able to essentially make oxygen farms made up of greenhouses full of plants that would draw in the CO2 and put out oxygen?
@ontheruntonowhere
@ontheruntonowhere 2 роки тому
Maybe, but growing plants will be difficult unless we figure out how to neutralize the perchlorates in the regolith, which is itself not dirt with organic nutrients, but dead sand. It might be easier to make oxygen industrially.

Interesting program, however, with all due respect, I have a hard time believing that this 2:53 is actually filmed on Mars. The drone reacts in exactly the same way as it should, here in the earthly atmosphere. Let alone how these images are supposed to be sent to earth, I don't know.

Ah, that music, the overly serious narration, the false jeopardy, the bleedin' obvious, and taking forever to get to the point ...I didn't get far enough in to see if there would be 'talking heads' forcibly jolted in to an attempt at Oscar-bait levels of cringeworthy emotion. No doubt a great deal of effort was put in to this but I noped-out pretty quickly, sorry. Let the science and any associated story speak for themselves.

Mars is calling people in the same way moths are called to a flame. It might be enticing to live on Mars but it will kill you. The ending of the movie "Kiss Me Deadly" explains what Mars really represents. Earth is our fishbowl. Fish don't survive long out of the water and Mars is a desert.

@Gravel Pit I had to do a speech in college on colonizing Mars. After doing my research I realized Mars is subterranean existence at best. The only real advantage is operating robots as avatars in real time. For all the global warming freaks out there Mars atmosphere is mostly CO2 and it hasn't helped. Even though it has only 1% of the Earth's atmosphere it has almost the same amount of CO2 per volume. If CO2 controlled temperature Mars would be like Florida.

Why is Starship not a major part of this piece? Starship is the vehicle we will be using to build a settlement on Mars. It is currently being developed and on the cusp of first orbit flight. I so not understand why Starship is never given the respect it deserves when talking about the immediate future of our path to developing the Moon and Mars. Token mention of Starship and even mentioning Boeing Sue origin and Lockhead is hillarious.

If we repaired the atmosphere, we need to fix the magnetosphere to maintain it, and then finally we will suffer of low gravity deseases, so what should we do? Repaire the gravity ? How ? By bring another planet ? I think Terra form Venus is more feasable, and saddly, we should forget the beautiful charmy mars
