Thank you so much for all the information you generously give. You truly have taught me how to knit. I knew how to knit, purl, and rib - that was it. Now I make hats, sweaters, scarves, and even tights for my daughter! Most of them are my own design thanks to all the lessons you put on UKposts!!!!! Thank you again for sharing your knowledge!! I very much appreciate your willingness to share, you are amazing!

Thank you! It's so helpful to see seaming of pieces that aren't stockinette stitch. Mine were box stitch -- sort of supersized seed stitch -- and this was exactly what I needed. I've just completed the most beautiful seams of my knitting life.

Hi Suzanne! I'm seaming up the sides of my sweater that has seed stitch panels at the edges, and I'm using method no. 2. I'll, of course, post in it the Facebook group when it's all done! You mention in the video that the bar can be hard to find after zipping up every few inches, but my little trick is to grab the next bar you would go into with a locking stitch marker (or whatever you might have available) so you don't have to go digging for it. Then after zipping, the bar is there to continue seaming 😊

I made kimono sweaters for twin infants and used someone else's tutorial for the first side seaming- was not happy at all with the outcome......then found yours and OH my!!- the best finishing I have ever done. I have been knitting for many decades than I wish to admit! But my finishing hasn't always been great. I have learned so much from you. I would often knit a sweater and then hesitate for weeks before I would put it together because I knew my finishing knowledge was limited. Your videos are perfect. Thank you so much for helping me. Do you have a video showing how to seam seed stitch from the shoulder edge?

Just in time. I knitted a seed stitch sweater in bulky yarn. I used the first method, using the purl bumps, because my fabric is quite heavy, I didn’t want it to stretch and sag. I used another of your videos to pick the collar stitches on the neckline. The results were fantastic, a great collar line and fit. I have learned so much from you, my knitting has improved so much, it has reignited my love for knitting. Another one of my hobbies is sewing, so I know that fit, seaming and finishing a garment is important to wear it, and to like wearing it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

@emmyjay53
@emmyjay53 2 роки тому
@@SuzanneBryan Hi Suzanne, The pattern has one garter edge on each edge of the pieces. So its garter stitch, to garter stitch. This method of knitting a garter stitch on the edge is supposed to help with the piece not curling so much. I have followed your mattress stitch tutorial and this seems to work. I don't think I will use this method of using a garter stitch on the edges in future if any other pattern calls for it. Thanks for your help.
@SuzanneBryan

Another terrific learning tool: clear, well paced and easy to follow. I’ve seen descriptions of mattress stitch where you go under two “bars” rather than one. Is there a situation where one method is preferred? Thank you.
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 5 років тому
Thank you! I prefer seaming under one bar. Just personal preference. I have an upcoming video on comparing seaming methods in Stockinette and I will include a version showing 2 bars vs 1 bar. Thanks and happy knitting.

This was very informative. I wish I saw this before I started my project so I could add a stockinette selvage stitch. I'm trying to seam together two vertical edges on a modified seed stitch pattern where the edges are not all the same stitches or even every other (knit and purl) and it's my first project where I need to seam. Having a bit of anxiety about it

Hi, I enjoy your tutorials tremendously as I just started knitting again after a good 5 years and they refresh my skills. You mentioned you darn in after seaming, what would you do with the joined yarn along the edges? Do you weave them in after seaming too? Thank you.
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 5 років тому
Yes, I weave them in after seaming. If you weave them in before, they tend to distort the seam or make it hard to find where to seam.. Happy Knitting.

I recently came across your videos and I thank you so much as my seams are not the greatest either even though I have been knitting since I was a teenager. I do a lot of baby clothes but am working on a sweater for me which has the seed stitch panel edging. Which method is better for a sweater seam 1 or 2? Maybe 2 because of the little bit of stretch? Looking forward to your reply!

The green is very clear at all magnifications. The white was more defined at the higher magnification. However, overall for me, these 2 colors contrast and show stitch definition well.
