I think TUNNEL VISION represents the way women are viewed. Melanie sings about how women are sexualized, also singing about how she won’t let herself be used for sex. Melanie believes that if you’re in a relationship with someone, they should genuinely like you in every way. She expresses that shes fine with having sex, but not if shes only being used for sex.

TUNNEL VISION Wrote this song while in Hawaii in February 2021 with Kinetics & One Love. We were surrounded by coqui frogs singing to us, the sound of rain hitting the roof, and pure connection. I wanted to make a song to describe the stage of moving through a tunnel of familiar hymns and imagery to ease the transition into the other side while also writing something with multiple meaning that people can relate to in a more earthly way. This song was leaked through a drop box hack the same year, and it took everything within me to not trash it. I couldn't rewrite a better tunnel song so it stayed.

Watching this I feel so nostalgic, having been here since the "somewhat" beginning to see Melanie grow into the artist she is today makes me cry tears of joy. Shes doing so amazing and seeing her make music she loves makes me so proud and listening to it feels like a reward!

This song is similar to The Contortionist but Melanie is saying to know your self-worth and empowerment. This song states how someone is confident in themselves and refuses to be objectified for someone else’s pleasure. The lyrics also suggest that you shouldn’t settle for anything less than you deserve. Melanie is such a genius with these meanings 💗🕯️🫶🏼

I’ve read that this is written about the response to The Bakery music video. It makes sense because while a lot of fans were sweet about it, some people kind of sexualised her (“it’s satanic how I bend my body… you’re too thirsty”) but Melanie is saying their “focus is empty” and she’s “more than that” as they focus more on her body than her artistry.

Melanie is fucking smart. The end of almost every song on the album is like an interlude, so when you listen to it, it smoothly transitions into the next. Now SHE is an ARTISTE

The frogs in the background 😍 so so cool. After learning how she wrote this song it’s just so cool to hear the small sounds added. The wind howling, rain falling. It makes you feel like you fell down Alice’s rabbit hole.
