I like all the RC videos but this is hands down my favorite. I was actually laughing out loud and grinning too as you had those involuntary post acceleration smiles. Reminded me of similar times and NASCAR ride along. I’ve driven by the Bowling Green track many times and always roll down the windows to hear the beautiful racing sounds. It’s all about perspective. For your story - a lot of life is represented by that car. Like the song “I Hold On” touches on, It’s where you learned self control, how things do and don’t work. It’s where many many memories were made. Even the unfinished work on it shows priorities of family. It’s sounds like it has served its purpose and now it can go help someone else with their story while you make the difficult choice of how you’ll create that space to intentionally develop and set your kids up for success. So they learn the things you learned - just using a different tool. Maybe cutting edge electric vehicle racing, maybe some of the awesome crawling/trailing options we have around here, or something else. It’s your awareness and intentionality that is key. Great video and hopefully talking it through with us helped you as well. Have a great week Troy.

That was just about perfect - thank you. You clearly see where I am coming from and where my head is at. Thank you for that. The analogy of teaching with a different tool is spot-on.

The fact your kids love that car so much what do they think? Just remember once you sell it,it’s most likely gone for forever. So many people wish they could have their first car back the fact you still have yours is very special especially with all the memories you’ve made with it.

In 1971 I was driving a 70 boss 302 . Burnt orange. That was my second car. Only had it for 3 yrs. But I still miss it and think about the feel that the car gave me. When I hear that engine wind up and you shift gives me the chills. I am 70 years old and the desire to feel that has never left me. If you sell it I hope it goes to someone who will take excellent care of it and appreciate what cars meant to us back then. Just as a side note never got beat by a Z-28. Love your RC content I got into them when the pandemic started for something to to work on lol. Have a blast racing, bashing and crawling. 😊

Great story Troy. I am sure that you and your sons will have many adventures with what’s to come. Your Bristol story reminds me of the summer of 1971. I had a 1965 Malibu S/S and a guy that I worked with had a 1970 Z-28. We worked a couple of miles from Fairgrounds Speedway. The track was banked at 36 degrees at the time, steeper than Talladega. We would get off of work at 3:30 and go over and if then gates were open, we would run a couple of laps and leave. The banking was so steep, you could only see your headliner in the turns. They reduced the banking to 18 degrees because of so many wrecks. Again, great story.

We are basically the same age and grew up doing the samething. As i grew older i ventured off from drag racing in my 81 camaro z28 to off roading and building some pretty wild jeeps. Once my son was born i sold off everything and stepped away from it all. Now 10 years later i share rc side of it with my son and we talk about my racing and off roading. He has asked if i would build another jeep and since that day ive been looking for a project for us to build. Little does he know it will be his jeep once he is able to drive. @IowaBudgetRCBashers Місяць тому
You could always get the patch panel they make that’s 1/2 the wheel well and the lower 1/2 of the quarter, cut it out, put the patch panel on it , and do a cheap garage paint job. Do it with the boys, and make it a fun project. You’d have maybe 1200 bucks in it and create memories. Teach em how to weld, and do some body/paint work. They’ll love it, and so will you. Don’t get rid of it. Keep it for one of the boys 😁
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Місяць тому
Oh man - I have gone around and around with the different ways to fix it and *should I do it myself. Unfortunately, there is more to it than just the outer quarter panel skin. The inner fender, trunk, etc are all torn up. There is a slight wrinkle that goes all the way up to the vinyl top.... boo.

Your best video ever Troy (and you've had plenty of great ones). I grew up in the golden age of musclecars but was too young to afford one. My solution was to get a job as a "lot boy" at a Pontiac dealer. Can you imagine a 17 year old gearhead kid getting paid (minimum wage) to drive brand new GTOs and Trans Am Firebirds. What wre they thinking hiring me????. I also mis-spent much of my youth at N.Y. National Speedway and got to watch my heroes...Sox and Martin, Grumpy Bill Jenkins, Bob Glidden, etc. I always knew there must be a story behind the L/R quarter on the Chevelle. Loved hearing the whole backstory. I see a Miata or a Jeep (maybe both) in your future. Many thanks for sharing this epic ride Troy.

Extending your thoughts I think learning , making and repairing things are turnpoints in ones life as it makes you a different person , opens your horizons, grow knowledge and adds communities in your life.. in Europe you cant drive cars until you're 18 but you can drive vespas and moped with 50cc engines after you're 14. Wrenching with friends was great times . Then I got to know about computers and programming with one of those bike friends , which made me turn and choose career in university, then got to know the maker world and electronics and microcontrollers and automations and sensors, but also the 3d printers laser cutters , silicone mold , and what not... I totally relate to your community story, and learning and changing over the years , only to become a better person. If it's your idea with your kids, it can't go wrong and they will surely find their own way to their own happy fulfilling life. May the torque be with you all

Such a crazy story! Honestly, I couldn't imagine letting go of a vehicle that I've had for so long, but I get it. If you do let go of it, I like the idea of getting a vehicle you can do offroad things with. You mentioned electric cars, and maybe that's how you could breathe new life into this by swapping the gas engine for an electric motor? No matter the outcome, I look forward to seeing updates. You could always dedicate a new channel to your 1:1 vehicle adventures.

Very much enjoyed watching, but very sad to hear you’re thinking about selling it. I remember when I was 15, my dad bought a project 1967 Mercury Cougar. While I liked cars, I didn’t really like or know anything about fixing them up. However, I helped my dad fix it up all the same, and I came to love working on cars, the thrill of completing big steps in the project. Unfortunately, when we were almost done with the car, my dad decided to sell it as the economy wasn’t doing well, and he needed the money more than the car. I’m bringing this up, because unless you’re in need of the cash, why not keep the car and save it for your kids? Fix it up with them, and pass it on to them. If my dad hadn’t sold the Cougar, that was his plan, to pass it on to me.
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Місяць тому
Thank you for sharing that! That is part of what I thought was going to happen - but hasn't even come about. The boys are now 10 & 14 - and only have a minor interest in it. Part of my thinking is getting another car that we can work on together - but something that is more relatable to 2024 vs 1971.

So, I ran across the DEERC 210e on Amazon for 150, and thought, on paper that is a lot of RC for $150. I come to the tube here, and search for a review. This is about this video and that one ago lol. That is the 1st video of yours I've ever seen. this is the 2nd. Never before have I encountered a new tuber, and on day one, felt like I've known them for years. The story of this car has had me glued to the screen, my first pause right here as you're discussing the prospect of getting yourself a crawler. This is a GREAT AWESOME stroy man. Like I'm thinking Clint Eastwood should make another car movie now. I'm now a fan for life my guy, for real. I'm a couple years older than you, but feel like you and I absolutely would've been close buds, if in the same town coming up. Here is my take. DO NOT sell that car. You will never forgive yourself. Now, if the family needs the money, a father does what he must, without regrets. If you don't need the money, you should keep the car man. That car is a part of your family at this point. Your kids know it, and you do too. I'm willing to bet the mrs does as well. Keep it, give it to whichever of the kids loves it most. Work on it with him, and make the same bond, your dad did with you. That's how this movie ends man. You won't ever regret NOT selling it, but you probably will regret letting go of a chunk of your soul man. Trust me. Keep it if you can. Give it to your son, whichever will appreciate and care for it most, and I'm sure you can come up with something for the other one, that will curb any jealousy or envy, no doubt. I loved this story, and was really caught off guard, by the imo sad last act. I gave my 2 cents, and whatever you decide, I'm sure it'll be what's best for you and your family. As a total stranger looking in the window, I'm just throwing my opinion out there. well, I sure figured out a way to make that sound creepy af didn't i lol

Welcome to the group! Glad to have you here. I have pondered this move for MANY months...years, if I am honest... The concept of regret as soon as I see it drive away will be real for sure. That is why it is so important for me to know what I want to do NEXT, and be PURPOSEFUL with that decision. Thank you for your thoughts - I do appreciate it.

Such a great story and I get where you're at. Part of me says keep it because of history but having the opportunity to start a new Era with your kids seems to only make sense to start them in this Era and let them continue a new story with what is modern and looking into the future. Either way I don't see a wrong decision as long as your having fun along the way.

Thankyou for this video and Testimony Troy. I myself have a love for fox body mustangs and I have bought and sold so many. I have not owned one in 12 years so I did it I pulled the trigger and bought another one a 1986 mustang GT 5 speed and I put it on my channel I named it Icarus lol I really love muscle cars and I have always wondered about your Chevelle. So cool the awesome experience you have had with your car and I really enjoyed this video, as to selling it I understand what you feel but you have had this sense you were your kids age I wonder if they might want to freshen the ole boy with you. What ever you decide its still really cool how you made it to what it is now and it wouldn't be to bad to fix that quarter panel. Again awesome video and thankyou so much for sharing peace bro👊✌

What a great story! Really enjoyed this. Love the 1:1 car content. I'm trying to get my daughter into auto cross, i think it only improves driving awareness/skill, as you said. I understand the burnout feeling, Ive managed to keep my 2nd car for 20+ years now, you can only do so much, and spend so much time before the novelty wears off. An electric Chevelle would probably make the old heads roll lol I gotta ask, what about the Bmw e30 picture on your work bench?

My first car was a 1975 Ford Mustang II (bought it back in 2016/2017). After a couple years, the v6 engine blew, so I decided to swap in a 302. Bought the engine, and a lot of parts to do this, but then some personal stuff happened, and by 2020 I have no idea what to do with it. My dad convinced me to just sell the car, engine, and parts for what I can, and he’d chip in a bit to help me buy my dream car, a 1969 Pontiac Firebird convertible. A year after buying the Firebird, it got totaled.. but insurance paid out, and I used that money to buy my 1970 Dodge Dart, which I still have, but she’s in the shop to get a couple things taken care of, and I should be getting her back in a week or two.

My dad had a 1971 #PontiacLeMans when I was a kid and sold it. Later got into trucks #Dentside learned to drive in one and had for high school transport like dazed and confused lol. That was back in 2004. Got my first real job with my cdl and 3k got me into my 1993 #FordLightning that eventually got nitrous and rust. It was 2008 a rebui motor and several e4od transmissions (2) lol i parted it out. Eventually decided to do a sleeper swap from gen 2 lightning with 1973 f100 body on top of it. Went 13.3 at 100mph at #bandimere autocross at good guys pluse too many car meets. It got beat up and needs all panels now. Lastly got into my 2003 lightning and #syclone number 0828 all stock both. Learned speed and upgrades should be kept at minimum for reliability. Cars are a big part of growing up for many, that being said 1992 notchback is my favorite mustang along with 2 #fbody vehicles. 2002 35th anniversary and cammed ls1 trans am 1999. Plan to sell my zx14 to get into a side by side to do with the family. Exploring the outdoors is my next move.

Man I tell you what, I don't know if you remember my first message to you, it's been awhile ago, about me and my PTSD and how it's hard to be around people and I was going to go to any I would need someone there I felt comfortable around or something to that degree, basically I was saying that I could tell you were a hell of a good guy, I could just get it from your videos and the vibe, I cannot remember what video it was on, I had basically just got embarrassed because I didn't know what to say , I'm sure you replied but I didn't even go read it. It's not cool to be so off in the head and I've learned that there are certain people who have this vibe or personality that just makes me feel calm, it sounds crazy just to explain it but I'm not ashamed because I got this way from defending this country, that is beside the point and I want no recognition or anything else special treatment or whatever you to say, I just wanted to say I was 100 percent correct. That was a beautiful story, made me feel better about my ability to see the good in people because there's so little of it in this world through my eyes and to know that you like Live within a hr, I've been in Cookeville hobbies, id feel a lot more confident in my ability to attend events with someone like you there. I don't care how weird it sounds, man I can barely go in a store without my anxiety meds, so you can imagine, I'm fairly new to this hobby and me just rolling up without knowing some one there like you was there, id just never be able to do it I don't think. This hobby is a big part of my life, I only have spoken to people on here and Facebook about it, I've never been to a event, I love my crawlers and I really want to, so long story short thank you for sharing your story, you don't know how much it has affected me in a positive way

43:07 The 1960’s and early 1970’s were the pinnacle of automobile development. An age before massive government oversight, where automakers could build cars that people really wanted, and were free to do so. Sure, you can argue “safety” was a reason for government oversight, but in reality that just isn’t true, and a lot of it really just had/has to do with political agendas. And while there are modern performance cars that could certainly outpace what once was, they are unobtainable to the working classes of people, where in the old days muscle cars were built for the working class. The Camaro, for example, was actually marketed as “the poor man’s corvette” by Chevrolet. If government hadn’t overstepped its position, the car industry would be far more massively successful than it is, and with the future being electric, which no true car enthusiast wants, the future is only looking bleak. The reason so many people, young and old, love the old era of cars is really because they embody freedom. New cars don’t.
