I like how you still point out some of the issues with TikTok without exaggerating it or sounding paranoid. I personally deleted TiTtok because it was addicting and greatly shortened my attention span. I don't really like how much people exaggerate the security concerns of tiktok, but I do find it kind of sketchy, and I think you did a good job with not exaggerating, and telling the truth.

coz when u install tiktok, the permissions u give to the app must have " access permissions to camera and microphone" and around 97% of the users don't give a damn about those permissions, so technically they have the " consent " to analyse data they recieve from your mic and camera

Deleting TikTok was the best decision I've ever made. It was fun for a bit when it was still in the growing phase, but as it got bigger it just got worse, both in content and for my mental health. Deleting the app and not getting hooked before it exploded in popularity is 100% a decision I'm glad I made.

I was someone who downloaded it back in 2019. I grew to 100k followers and was creating 4-5 videos a day. I would spend all day everyday on TikTok. Slowly I lost interest in creating and I would just consume. I am so glad I recognised this and deleted it. Same situation, never been happier

As a member of gen-z, I’m so glad I managed to avoid this hellish cesspool of an app. I personally think that people really started to gravitate towards it in 2020 (pandemic-induced boredom and loneliness), and now our society is having to deal with the consequences of shortened attention spans and the need for instant dopamine gratification.

TikTok sucks. Its algorithm sucks too. I've tried using it around a year ago and it kept giving me absolutely irrelevant for me, boring, and unenjoyable content. After a few days I deleted my account and the app. I've never touched TikTok ever again

@@gabbymidd7 it’s great that you’re aware of this issue! i suggest you to stop consume those short videos on social media and try to ‘exercise’ yourself to focus on one thing for a longer time or to finish everything you’ve started. You’re still very young and short attention span should not be your issue, it will be a very bad habit and may distract your productivity and learning process in a long term. good luck!

Thank you, just thank you. I can't express enough to almost everyone around me how dangerous TikTok is. i deleted my account and haven't used it in about 2-3 years. Cause I noticed it was severely declining my mental health, I was wasting countless HOURS just mindlessly scrolling, and becoming radicalized with crazy conspiracy's that were just believable enough to change my entire world view. I can't deny that there is genuinely good content on tiktok, mostly in the comedy genre. It just seems anything beyond that is dangerous, and at the very least wasting billions of peoples lives. the coin-socket challenge was not a challenge, it was a video created on youtube (not tiktok), about 2 kids placing a coin in a socket. the reason why people thought it was a challenge was because CNN and all the other news accounts on twitter making it seem like it was a challenge.

What I know about TikTok is that I'm happy to keep avoiding it. Years ago I watched kids I worked with become basically addicted to TikTok and developed a genuine hatred of it (not that I cared for its predecessor either). The first time my kid showed me a TikTok video also turned out to be the first time I was happy to hear "I found it on Tumblr." Kiddo still avoids TikTok. So yep, plenty I don't know about TikTok, but I'm glad I saw this video. Thanks Arun!

I downloaded TikTok last year and took it off after a couple of months. I wouldn't describe myself as having an addictive personality, but soon realised I was easily spending an hour a day watching the videos. Oddly enough, Instagram - which follows a similar format - is easy to watch for ten minutes or so and then turn off - so yes, I'd say there's something very insidious about the algorithm.

I find it quite educational, obviously not from the user comments, but the videos give me ideas on what I could look up. The videos' also depends on your location, as I have seen many US Americans struggle to find decent TikToks. Of course, mobile app is much more pleasant to watch on and easier to ignore the "dark sides", as if UKposts has none.

3:25 I actually know a girl who used to go to my middle school who broke her back doing one of these challenges. She missed out on like 3/4ths of the school year and when she got back nobody would talk to her and would only talk about how she got injured. Principle and administrators even held an assembly to warn against harmful tiktok challenges

I truly worry for people who are practically addicted to Tik Tok. I've seen many people who grow addicted to it, being on it almost all the time I see it. Probably something you could have added is that TikTok was recently caught spying on a few US-based journalists, one of them who reported on a story that US data was repeatedly accessed by China earlier. So yeah, the fears are well justified.

I think one important aspect of the TikTok algorithm is that basically the whole app is algorithmic! It's not like other social media apps where you can sort by likes, by views, or basically at all. You don't control what you see, it's just served to you when you swipe, and if you're looking for something specific it's almost impossible to find, so you just see what the algorithm wants you to see, all the time. It's not like reddit or youtube where you can look for something and judge it before you click.

@zanelikescheese8126 Well, people are people, and it would be best for them to stop totally. But all of this is driven by popularity and the algorithm. Whether it's dangerous stunts or dirty sexual content or depressing content. This content ruins the app, which is sad because tiktok has a lot of good and useful content. Maybe it's changing, and that's great. But these short addicting videos that waste time are always going to have some negative effect. We don't need them. Because some people can't use it properly. Like a classroom 😔.

If it wasn't for the ban, i don't think I would have escaped the notorious TikTok plague that is taking over this generation. I remember losing nights of sleep for just a few secs of laughs. It was v addicting. The app just seemed to have gotten worse! Thanks Arun for this video.

Good thing I never made a Tiktok account EVER. I just thought why would I install an app to watch short videos when I can watch full videos on UKposts? 😅 It's just a waste of storage for me who installs and plays games that consume larger storage capacity

I am proud of mr who's the boss because he left mobile tech reviews to spread his 'bored with that' wings, so he can talk about the myriad of ethics related topics he cares about, and use his influence to educate the masses. It is not easy to break out of a niche you have become known for. I also like how he has toned down the slick look to look natural again. More handsome without all the polish

Yes, I live in China and if you want to use TikTok you have to use VPN, you can use the Chinese version with normal Wi-Fi, for also some reason they made a new app for other countries. The China government also said that they don’t want to show the international content in China.
